Must see!
Out of all the K-dramas I have seen, this was very original, in my opinion.I absolutely loved this one. It's message that it's never too late to pursue your dreams was so inspiring. And the added message that you shouldn't delay because tomorrow isn't a guarantee.
It was also a tale of an unlikely friendship. I feel it also broke down a lot of stereotypes about men who do ballet.
I recommended this drama to my senior citizen parents and they actually finished watching the whole thing before I did. My mom went on to recommend it to other people their age as she found the message to be extremely inspiring and important for people who are older. She found the message to be hopeful too.
I have viewed a lot of heart-warming K-drama, but with this one, I cried A LOT and love this Kdrama for that!

Hit the snooze button on this Love Alarm!
I did watch this all in one day. So maybe that's why I found the story and Kim JoJo's behavior to be so annoying.I know that she was a college student, but omg she spent all her time thinking about boys and love alarm. I felt like she was just really stringing along Hye-Young and he definitely deserved someone who could definitely say "I LOVE YOU, HYE-YOUNG and I don't need an app for that!" With her Love Alarm shield enabled it completely crippled her ability to think on her own or feel her own emotions. And the way she would second guess herself when she was around Sun Oh was just horrible, in my opinion. I felt really bad for him!
I felt really bad for both of the guys in this show. I just wanted the two of them to ring each others love alarms and be best friends again and ditch Kim Jojo.
She thought so hard about her love alarm and needing it to ring. And then when she used that sword to ring it, I was even more annoyed. I felt like it was lying. Why not just delete the app entirely from her phone and tell Hye Young she loved him, you know? Why use the app to do it. He is the kind of guy who would appreciate that more than her app ringing. I mean his fascintiaton with retro electronics pointed towards him being more old school, right? Also odd that he loved to repair old things and then he still had to ring Kim Jojo's alarm so many times and was tickled when he found out the app said she would love him. What a strange personality.
I felt super sad for Sun Oh. His character just sulked and wallowed in his heart break. He never smiled. And then at the end, when he showed up at that girlfriends apt and said he would basically hang out and force his love alarm to ring for her was super pathetic in my opinion. I wish his character had a better ending than that.
I think I would have enjoyed this series a lot more if the three main characters deleted the app and remained friends. And that they all felt it was necessary to love themselves first. They were so young and should just live life, travel, enjoy new things and meet new people and follow their passions for themselves and not someone else. Learning to live without having to have a boyfriend or girlfriend is possible and actually healthy!
I did enjoy when Kim Jojo went on her marathon run. The scene where she ran to her childhood self had me in tears. I was like "Yes! Love yourself, girl!" and I knew Hye Young would be there and I wish he would have just said "Hey, let's take a break while you sort through your baggage! You do you! Call me in a few years and we'll see if it was meant to be" .
The part with Duk-Gu was confusing. Was he being kept in a coma while his older brother watched him on a camera? Did he escape from being held hostage? What the heck?! It made no sense.
The only slight growth IMO was her cousin, Gul-Mi. I felt that her character went from being this self-absorbed phony to actually realizing the sacrifices others have made for her. So I liked that she started working in her mother's convenience store and gave her mom a break. And how she wanted her mom to do things like join a hiking group with people her age. And when she shielded Kim Jojo from reporters phone calls. Just small things where it showed she was growing as a person and thinking more about other's feelings than her own.
I felt like Duk-Gu gave her that challenge to get hearts on her own in order for her to realize that her actions affect people's feelings. And treating people with kindness come back to you in a positive way.

this was ok
I think this series could have ended around episode 10! In fact, I wasn't keeping track and thought it was going to finish soon after ep 10!Here are some things I remember, bc even though I finished this one a few days ago, nothing really stands out to me about the story.
1. I didn't care for the leads romance. Mr Giant crab and Suzy... I didn't feel any enjoyable chemistry as the story progressed.
2. Woo-tak was my favorite character and I wished he had ended up with the girl at the end. Also, how we only saw his abs that one brief moment! And how his big secret was that he was color blind!
3. That scene where the two leads were locked in the burning trailer thing. I mean, wouldn't you grab a chair and just try to smash the barred windows open? They both just sat there in the fire ready to die. That was ridiculous. I actually paused this part and had to complain to my husband about how dumb that was.
I would still recommend this one to my friends. I enjoy kdramas that have light romance and a mystery.

Beauty's only skin deep!
I started this K-drama right after watching True Beauty. While True Beauty was more of a light/fun drama, My ID went deeper into the emotional trauma of a girl bullied because she's not deemed attractive enough and taking it to the next level and making a permanent change to her facial features.I was really unfamiliar with the popularity of plastic surgery in Korea. I knew that some people would get the surgery for double eyelids, but I didn't know they would reshape their face, change their nose and mouth. And how this type of plastic surgery face is called a "Gangnam Beauty".
I would have been as clueless as Mi Rae's parents if I heard someone using the name "Gangnam Beauty" to describe someone.
In a way, I felt that Mi Rae went from one form of ugly to another with her new plastic surgery face. That is just my personal opinion, but for me, what shined for her character was just how kind and thoughtful she was. I honestly, felt that after all she went through in the show with the school goddess hating her, etc... that she was able to reassess what it meant to be a beautiful person and realizing she was as beautiful as Soo Ah!
The character of Soo Ah proved that beauty is truly only skin-deep. Despite her angelic appearance, she was tormented inside, self-hating and insecure, cruel and manipulative. And while Mi Rae had scars and insecurities from her past, she was learning to overcome them and growing stronger throughout the series. She was learning that she deserved to be happy and loved and found that with a guy who fell in love with her for her beautiful spirit.
And I also ended up feeling satisfied with Soo Ah's ending. She had a reverse transformation from Mi Rae's. She realized the ugliness she had inside herself was something that kept her from being happy and creating meaningful relationships. I felt her bulimia was the perfect physical manifestation of her personality. How someone so perfect and sweet on the outside was just filled with bile and acid on the inside. She broke through that superficial exterior when she cut her hair off at the end and seemed to be taking time to focus on loving herself and not depending on the praise and affections of others.
All in all, this K drama was entertaining. I didn't get bored and I enjoyed the message.

Loved this one!
Loved the (literally) strong female lead and her character growth throughout the show and how the men had to adapt to fit into her life. In the end, she is doing what she wants to do, having achieved her goal with the launch of the video game.I loved the mom and grandmother characters as well. Also strong women, even though her mother lost her powers, she was still a strong personality and leader in her community. I enjoyed a series where the "strong men" - the bullies and gangsters, were put in their place by tiny Do Bong Soon. And the traditional male roles of police officer, also benefited from Do Bong Soon's strength.
I didn't like that she had to be the unsung hero in the end after she helped catch the kidnapping criminal. It wouldn't have been possible without her assistance. However, it was at her request in order to keep her anonymity so she could do her good deeds.
I did enjoy the romance between Bong Soon and her Min Min. Although I didn't like the way he had her work in his office at what was like a little girl's dollhouse desk. I know that her character thought it was cute and liked it. So I suppose that was what mattered.
The ending was sweet and adorable when Min-Hyuk was left to care for his twin daughters while Bong Soon was "working". I loved the reversal of traditional husband/wife roles.

I loved this!
True Beauty is now one of my fave K-dramas. I loved the main character Ju-kyung both before and after her make-up transformation. I liked that she was into horror comics and metal and her bedroom decor was too cool and not typically cutesy, imo. I enjoyed the fact that she kept the same interests even after becoming pretty. This was a series where I was really torn between the two males in the love triangle. I wanted both to be happy! I wanted them to be friends again! In classic K-drama fashion, this friendship rift was caused by a lack of honest communication and wrong assumptions.
I loved all the supporting cast of characters in this show. Her older sister and her school teacher were so fun to watch. It was refreshing to see her older sister as this strong female character who didn't conform to societal norms for a woman. And also Ju-kyung's mother was the same as the head of her household and sole bread winner.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a slightly different take on the classic love triangle drama.
