For a mystery-detective drama about a team of investigators trying to pursue a vigilante named 'Darker', the entire premise success relies on how interesting Darker can be - and is well delivered. The Darker mystery slowly unravels by the crimes he brings to the public's attention, providing a side-commentary on society's dark underbelly. Crimes 'solved' then poses a question to viewers if Darker's methods are truly correct if justice can't be delivered via lawful methods.

Also, the investigation detectives are rather unique with their own skills and personalities. Although there was much initial conflicts and disagreements, the team really grew into a family-like dynamic as they share success and setbacks when confronting Darker. I feel that the team reflects as a positive mirror to Darker, as the two share many core skills and competencies while conflicting in their central viewpoint of justice.

Overall, a great drama and is worth a watch. The acting is superb with a solid story that twists and pulls in the individual cases, as well as the main mystery as to who Darker really is.

Throughout this drama, I had really enjoyed the dynamic between Yan Zhi and Man Na as they experienced an inverse development in their character arcs. I always see it as a clash between the natural genius and the determined hard-worker, eagerly awaiting at each episode at who would over-triumph the other. Also, as a protagonist's strengths can only be best exemplified with a strong adversary, the Japanese spy forces had definitely measured up to it.

Lastly, it was amazing as to how character decisions are shown to have impactful consequences that would result in a domino effect. The many twist-and-turns in this story are very unexpected and provides the suspense of a spy's life that really keeps you guessing. Definitely recommend giving this drama a watch!

Upon reading the synopsis, I was quite skeptical in watching as it briefly explains on what the major life decisions of Plans A and B would lead to. However, I am pleasantly taken back at how well the story was developed with sufficient pacing (quite a few heavy moments have been felt).

A recurring theme in this story lies with Regret. "What would have happened if I had done Plan A/B"
is a common question that plagues Ru Wei throughout. In what may be an accurate portrayal of regret,
it shows how hard moving forward can be while constantly looking backward. Needless to say, it kept
the protagonists quite unhappy - as it hinders them to find gratefulness for what they actually have.
Quite a worthwhile lesson to apply in real life as well.

Overall the show and it's delivery are nicely packaged, beautiful acting and a very complementing music.
Despite certain romantic drama tropes surfacing, it's definitely worth a watch.

Something Magical

Despite not being a fan of love dramas in general, 你是我的城市营垒 was simply special.

This drama tells the story of two lovers, who are both in highly specialized professions. A central theme of this story is responsibility, whereby it serves as the main 'antagonist' in their relationship and it feels very real (despite the odds of a doctor marrying a SWAT police). The execution of the medical and special forces scenes are really interesting and it helps to seamlessly weave the two protagonists arcs together (hooray for combined profession scenes).

(Side note: The responsibility and commitment Mika and Shao Yuhan showed as doctors, are truly inspirational)

I must confess that I was not that interested in Mika and Xing Kelei relationship at the start. But overtime, I grew to love their dynamic and the scenes these two share. Their struggle feels very real, and how they both grow to overcome their shortcomings together. The subplots of the supporting characters' love story are entertaining to watch as well. Importantly, this drama did not force many typical tropes and clichés (*cough* amnesia) and feels very refreshing as a story.

I will miss the days of listening to the ending music and really glad for my friend to recommended this drama. So for those who have yet to see this drama, it is definitely worth a watch!

My Review for Juvenile Justice

For a drama that relates to Juvenile Delinquency, I was not expecting the story to be this good. As mentioned from the synopsis, we can see at the start that Sim Eun Seok hates juvenile offenders, and is often harsh when handling cases. This drama has her cover on each case that deals with many juvenile offender issues from different aspects in South Korean society. Impressively, each case have managed to top the others previously, building not just the story but the characters involved.

After watching the final episode, the season finale is as jaw-dropping as when the first episode debut. Many times while watching, I had goosebumps from how unsettling a case was and the question of true justice is often posed to us viewers. The writing is superb and there is so much attention to detail that goes into each case (the cinematography is often quite symbolic as well). Definitely a recommend for anyone who is interested, as it manages to tell such a meaningful story in a short 10 episode-run.

My Thoughts

Honestly, the synopsis and English title does not do this drama justice. Despite playing on the amnesia-memory trope, stumbling across this drama was a very pleasant surprise.

For me, the sworn brotherhood of Liu Zi Guang and Nie Wang Feng's in the early episodes had cemented my interest in this narrative, whereby both can represented as the ying and yang. Zi Guang symbolises the path of righteousness throughout the story while Nie Wang Feng acts as a dark guardian angel for Zi Guang. With each episode, I was keenly awaiting for when Zi Guang's memories would return and I am glad to say that the ending was truly rewarding - as many details from early episodes were ultimately tied together.

My only qualms are that the middle portions of this drama can be rather draggy, and the side-characters were progressively sidelined despite the attention given to their character development. All-in-all, this drama was truly an amazing ride!
