Quite underwhelming but still enjoyable for me

I had expectations with this one but honestly speaking its quite underwhelming. I pretty much still enjoy watching this although i'm not satisfied especially with the ending... When will these writers stop pulling such a dramatic move which is to give a sad ending? Especially the ending for Gu Niang & Gu Shao, There are better ways to give a "sad ending" for these two instead of making him (Gu Shao) leaving her (Gu Niang) waiting just for her to die because of a plague before they even get together. Don't get me wrong, i'm a sucker for sad endings BUT the good well written sad ending. Not an abrupt sad ending.

— Positive :
Like i said before, i pretty much enjoy watching this. I like everyone's portrayal of their characters. They all did their part well. I like their familyhood and friendships here as well. Idk what to say about Commander Luo except that he has been on my nerves. the amount of time i automatically said "Stay away from her" everytime he's near a woman is crazy.

I'd like to thank whoever cast Xin Zhi Lei & Gao Weiguang together cause they're such badass duo who shares a pretty good chemistry in the serie. The romance isn't the main genre here but that's exactly why i love it. The build up between them is just right (lowkey wants more of them though).

Gu Niang being a fierce & hot tempered lady while Gu Shao being the Cool headed man who eventually "tamed" Gu Niang (tame isn't exactly the proper word but you'll know what i mean haha) From the bickering and the little fights to her slowly being submissive to him is my kind of trope hahaha it's when that one strong headed character found their other half who can make them behave themselves and learn to listen and brings the soft side of them and even made them change for the better <3

— Negative :
Wtf was that ending?? My jaw dropped when i watched the last couple of minutes of the last episode... Poor girl waited for him just to die 3 months after he left on an adventure to find the thing he's been looking for his whole life. What's worse is that they didn't even get to marry each other and they didn't get to have a beautiful little family together. I wish he take her out from there and settle down somewhere after getting married then he can take her on his adventure after she recovered after all she's a good helpful partner to go with instead of leaving her waiting but oh well, guess the writer had something different in mind. Hu Bayi and Shirley Yang did it so why can't these two do it too?? I'm still in denial over the the narration at the end of the last episode (':
