Let me tell you something obvious (to anybody who's ever been in a long-term relationship):
relationships always change overtime. Love is not a hocus-pocus. It's a bunch of reactions happening in your body\brain as a result of your interactions with your loved one. When one's most basics needs are not met over a long period of time...surprise-surprise!...these reactions eventually decline.
Disturbingly, this thing that kept humanity from extinction for quite some time now is merely ignored here, and I don't understand why.
