A Diamond in the Rough
This series isn't anywhere close to as bad as people make it out to be. I was really putting off this one because of all the bad reviews but wow did I end up loving it. Drake and Frank delivered such an amazing performance as Mork and Tee and really captured what it's like to be young, dumb, and inexperienced in love. Neo and Phuwin also added such a sweet storyline to the overall plot.
I will admit that this show has the potential to be confusing if you have not read the novel. I do not agree with important information that was omitted from the series and the non linear storytelling at the beginning that really worked against the series and not in it's favor. I took a tip I saw of reading the YouTube comments for more clarification at the end of the episodes and honestly they kept me on track so that I could fully enjoy the story.
Should you have to put so much work into figuring out a show? No not really, but with this one I'm glad I did because it was so worth it. I'm someone who enjoys a good story above all else so once I was able to understand the story, all other issues weren't such a problem for me.
Speaking of issues, I gave it a lower score because the production is anything but professional. If you are a very picky drama watcher do not be surprised if this series is not for you. There was a scene where there was literally a jumpcut, and a good handful of public scenes where the audio mixing was so terrible it sounded like someone was flushing a toilet near my ear and shuffling around items in the background. A real shame that this show's production suffered when the cast had so much to offer. The writing from time to time could also have been better as they adapted things from the novel.
All in all, if you know you're someone that values a good story and good characters above all else, and are able to put in a little bit more effort too understand it all, do not let yourself miss out on this show. It really warmed my heart and the rewatch value is also high.
