Disappointing Script, Too Many Side Characters & Poor Character Development
Ep1-20 is extremely boring, except for scenes in Germany on Ep20. Leads have very little screen time together, too many unrealistic office scenes - lavish office, huge staff in an early startup. Styling of FL is terrible, all the ugly matronly suits & dresses like old ladies would wear. Too many side characters with developing relationships. Recommend start watching from ep20.From ep20 to ep31, the lead's relationship moved too fast it felt empty. Still so much screen time were on the side characters, the leads emotional development were not there - those heart-to-heart and life-changing conversations that deepen the relationship were not there for the main leads, ironically the side couple Lillie had some good tough conversations. It's all just fluffy screen romance acting that lacked sexual tension and intensity from 2 intense characters. The chemistry was just too boring. Boom one night stand, Boom saying I love you. Boom moving in. Boom meeting parents. Boom one problem & breaking up moving out. Do they have a Time Machine that can skip ahead ??? Or is this a director's choice or bad screenwriting ??
Ep 30/31 & Ep32 preview - Just when I thought it's safe to keep watching to the end, ep30/31 is changing my mind. FL XJ, the usually logical, kind and thoughtful person would suddenly become so stupid - believing in her ex-boss's lies knowing she's the scheming villain, stealing HT's confidential business plans, secretly signing a deal with HT's competitor to retaliate (stupid move), quitting her “job” & ran away - what ???? She’s the soul of the company and ran away from her own business !
The whole thing makes no sense, and the over-acting screaming fight/break-up scene makes no sense. FL character has been a smart successful engineer, suddenly became a reckless emotional idiot, this character flip doesn't align with the first 20ep. HT is that hot sexy ruthless stone-cold business genius that makes him dangerous and exciting, and he flipped to become a lovesick puppy who compromised everything for XJ . Both characters lost their smarts and edge that would've made a great story.
Dropping this drama.....tired of being bored and the bad script / screenwriter. The great cast couldn't save the show.

Crazy Stupid Mother ruins the watching experience
Typical Chinese drama with the toxic mother unfortunately. The ML and FL are great actors and portrayed the characters well and draw the audience into their inner struggles. The second couple, FL's brother & her BFF, also had a heart-wrenching storyline worth watching. The parental control culture are very real and well reflected in this drama - i.e. society/parents feel they have the right to control all the life choices of a woman, cultural discrimination against the older woman with younger man, annoying relatives who thinks they have a right to your money etc. The ML's personal growth, humanity and cool is so good to watch and XuKai is funny and perfect as usual. What ruins the show is the FL's mother character - an explosive stupid idiot with a high pitch voice. it’s complete torture to watch. This character is an insult to women as mothers. The important parental character is the grandmother who is loving, strong and wise, the grandma we all wish we had. however the grandma is also flawed - not raising ML herself despite knowing his horrendous childhood, giving him to the FL’s family only works in her imagination. Grandma essentially gave the grandson ML nothing he wanted and needed when she passed away.
The first boyfriend is a weak pathological liar, rich but retarded. Recommend skipping some episodes to eliminate this useless character and the stupid mother's over-the-top screaming scenes. 1. Fast forward to ep 12 when FL is starting over as a single girl. 2. Fast forward ep 16 to avoid the big "engagement" scene where stupid mother went insane. It's worth waiting for the slow burn of the lead's love story. Ending is a little anti-climactic for the lead's love story although a happy one.

The one to watch !!!
The story / script is well written and well executed. Both leads are incredible. ML Wang XingYu is all grown up and so hot ! If I must pick a con, it would be the villains along the way don't seem too smart :) The story and character developments were exciting from beginning to end. Must watch !!!btw I've never given a 10/10 review before but this one deserves it.

Loud Music ruined the whole drama experience
The story is typical of xianxia drama, humanized gods that has all the flaws and emotions of humans. ML (Xu Kai) had a tough role with so many sad scenes to shoot, and did an excellent job carrying the audience through the whole story. FL was also a great actor. CGI were a bit cheap looking but sufficient. Ending took its time in the last 3 episodes to close the major storylines - this saved the story. Here comes the Cons :
1. Music - horrendous and ruins the whole thing - at least half the show has some kind of loud singing music going on, overpowering actor's voices and ruins the scene. I had to mute through all the loud music to get through the show, and resort to watching the closed caption dialogue because it's honestly torture. I'd rate the music at -10 if I could.
2. Main Villain - was known early on the show and continued to do bad deeds, with the all knowing gods either too dumb to notice, or unable to find out, or did nothing - till the very end.
3. Pacing - the middle 1/3 of the series got slow and boring
Overall, the loud singing music throughout the show ruined my watching experience. Without the music, I'd rate it 8.0. With the music, rate it at 5.0 - and it's for all the good acting and hard work of the actors alone. No rewatch value.

Love this period rom-com
It was ok on the first watch but appreciated it more on rewatching. It's a simple main storyline, with a non-toxic leading relationship, great romance and comedy, great acting and chemistry, that pulls you into their love story and rooting for them. It doesn't have any CGI FX scenes to dazzle the viewers and may seem boring if you're looking for that. This drama falls all on the actors to carry the scenes - shows the director and actor's skills. The only annoying thing is the music/songs, played way too loud, sometimes even over the actor's thinking or voices - I had to mute to continue watching - the music ruined all those special moments. Was this review helpful to you?
