I wanted to like it so bad..

Seeing a Korean BL about music students was so exciting to me at first because of my love for music and LGBT dramas. But I was just so disappointed. First of all, the premise was just boring to watch. An 8 episode drama would usually take me no more than 2 days to finish but this show took me 5 days. There was so much potential to dig deeper into the characters trauma but it felt so lackluster.

But the bigger issue lies within the ships. I liked Taeyi and Seheon at first, but after Episode 7 I was done with it. Was no one who recommended this show gonna mention the casual SA that went unmentioned? I don’t care if Taeyi was hurting, I don’t care if Seheon “wanted it”, when Seheon told him to stop he should’ve done exactly that. It’s 2024 and we still have these kinds of scenes… sigh.

And don’t get me started on the second couple… I hate bully x victim tropes so much that this was a no-go from the start. But the line “I’ll love you even if you bully me” made my stomach twist in a bad way. It’s such a shame cause these actors would be good together, it’s just the characters.

Anyways, point is I wouldn’t waste your time on this show. It’s not that good. Watch The Eighth Sense or something instead

Wasted potential.

I finished this show the day the last episode aired, but I’m only writing a review now so bare with me if I don’t remember certain details.

It’s entertaining. The ships had chemistry. Actors have pretty faces. Unfortunately, that’s it.

A Mafia BL series with production as high as KinnPorsche could’ve been one of the best BLs of our generation. But.. they just.. blew it. Watching this show felt like watching a rom-com that took place in a mafia setting rather than an actual mafia series. I love rom-coms, don’t get me wrong, but if you’re going to advertise this as a mafia BL then why does it not feel like one?

However I think it’s most important I address the big, giant, obese elephant in the room. Sexual assault.

Kinn raped Porsche. It’s that simple. How many times do I have to say that people under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol cannot properly consent before BL fans get it? Porsche was extremely drunk. His judgement was severely impaired, he could not consent. Kinn took advantage of Porsche being drunk to have sex with him. That is rape.

The sex scene in Episode 7 (i think? the bathroom one) also had me feeling icky. While I don’t think the screenwriters intended for Porsche to be drunk during that scene, I had to rewatch it to catch that. If I’m remembering correctly, Porsche was drunk when Vegas kissed him. I find it insanely hard to believe he completely sobered up by the time Kinn came in, but I also think that’s just a plot hole.

Vegaspete. Ew. Just. Ew. If you liked Vegaspete, there is something wrong with you. I don’t know how you could watch those scenes and not feel sick to your stomach for Pete. But I guess because they had a “hot” sex scene, it doesn’t matter. I’m not going to ramble about that because if you didn’t see the issue just by watching the series, then you’re a lost cause.

And the cousins plot.. Lord help me. I still like to think that I imagined that and that it isn’t real, cause what the fuck?? When the show was airing, I remember having weekly prayer circles that they wouldn’t keep the cousins storyline from the novel. I suppose my prayers were not answered.

I’ve been very negative this whole review, so here’s a few things I did like.

- Porchay. NOT KimPorchay, but only Porchay. He’s a cutie.
- Arm. Also, ArmPete ghostship.
- Soundtrack. Free Fall is a banger.
- Episode 6. Actually showed some of the potential the series had. I wish more of the series was like Episode 6, cause that was REALLY good.

In conclusion, I really wouldn’t waste your time. There’s just so many issues that can’t be ignored and if you’re normal to any capacity, you’ll hate it.

What exactly is so dangerous about it?

I started watching this because of NMLG. I loved Ben & Choppers relationship and wanted to see more of them so bad. So when I found out about this show, I was excited. Unfortunately, it disappointed me heavily.

First, some things I liked.
- Sailom and Kangs cheesy honeymoon phase. They were really cute, I won’t deny.
- Guy. No explanation needed.
- The first 2 episodes. The suspense and tension was really interesting.
- Sailoms friend group as a whole.

Then, the things I didn’t like.
- The complete 180 of Kangs character starting in Epiosde 3. It’s like they secretly replaced him with a twin brother who is his polar opposite. There was no character development, he just randomly decided he wouldn’t be an asshole anymore.
- How quickly Sailom and his friends forgave him. Kang never really apologized for bullying Auto. He just bought them stuff, took them to a bar, and was forgiven.
- Kang having a crush on Pimfah. It didn’t make sense. The entire series, there’s no signs he liked her. Then randomly he’s just crazy over her? And then after he was indirectly rejected, it’s like he just immediately got over it and liked Sailom. That’s just not realistic. If you really did like someone for as long as Kang (supposedly) liked Pimfah, there’s no way you’re going to just move on that quick. Kang is trying to be sweet when he says “Before I knew it, I fell for you,” I get it, but like… There was max 3 days of time where he made that decision.
- Pimfah and the teacher. Sigh… Actually, before watching the show, when I saw ViewJune in the cast I was stoked. But imagine my surprise when Junes character is a … TEACHER?! Hell no. Can GMMTV stop trying to make Student x Teacher happen? They did this stupid shit in The Eclipse too. It’s just so uncomfortable. Thank god we have 23.5 to fill our ViewJune fix, because this is horrendous.

Overall, it’s not the worst in the world. But it’s definitely not the best. I think a ChopperBen spin-off would’ve been way better. I’m not really into PerthChimon as actors too much but they have pretty faces and okay chemistry. I saw some reviews saying the chemistry in this series was bad, and I don’t think it was THAT bad but certainly not the same as Chopper & Ben. They just needed a better written series.

literally such a beautiful show.

there were some elements of the story i didn’t like, but i think the phenomenal acting from firstkhao makes up for it.

the chemistry between akk and ayan is just incredible. akk just might become my favorite bl character ever. his character was, in my opinion, so beautifully written. and of course, first did him so much justice. i don’t think anyone could’ve portrayed akk as well as first did.

if i had to give a complaint about this show, it would be the side couple. they just didn’t interest me at all. i ended up skipping a lot of their scenes because i felt they were just boring and i would rather see akk & ayan scenes.

the way this explores the struggle queer teenagers face of accepting who they are was amazing, and im a huge sucker for hurt/comfort so i loved this even more.

please give this show a watch, firstkhaos acting is phenomenal, especially first. as i said, he portrayed akk so well and sometimes i felt goosebumps at the most emotional scenes.
