Definitely one of my favorite GLs this year
Overall this was a sweet story about first love and the struggles that come with it. Definitely not a perfect show and there were times when I disagreed with the characters, but that makes them feel three-dimensional.
What I liked: Ongsa being such a loser was very funny and I loved seeing how she slowly found her people and her confidence. The side couples were cute as well, I was pleasantly surprised by the teachers, but my favorite side couple was, of course, AylinLuna. I could relate to Aylin and it was genuinely heartwarming seeing her realize that she is loved and has friends that support her now. The romance never felt forced, especially for OngsaSun, and I could clearly see the struggles and consequences of bad decisions made by teenagers who didn't know any better because they're still learning and growing.
Watching the main couple have problems and trying to adjust to their first relationship, figuring out the balance between giving enough of yourself but not too much, felt incredibly real and relatable.
What I disliked: The conflict between Sun and Ongsa felt a bit forced, in the show Sun understands Ongsa very well.. Until she doesn't, it felt out of character for her to get angry and break up with Ongsa because of that conflict and the way it was resolved wasn't any better. All the blame was put on Ongsa and her tendency to care a bit too much about what others think, when Sun was also very much to blame for outing her friends and her girlfriend and immediately lashing out after, I feel like this was minimized.
I think having a bl couple in the series was a last minute decision and Tin and Mawin were supposed to fill in the void left by the fact that they switched the side couple to a wlw one, this was executed very poorly to the extent that I at one point thought Mawin was going to get rejected and then end up with Ton, since TonMawin got more scenes and more chemistry than TinMawin, there could've been so many different ways to portray that relationship better.
In conclusion, it wasn't perfect but the series was cute and I enjoyed it very much, I loved the friendships and the supportive adults, it touched on some pretty important themes while still maintaining its lighthearted essence, it really felt like the characters were real. Despite having some flaws it's really a great watch and I know I'll probably rewatch it many times.
