The Best KDrama to Date!!!

I’m in absolute awe and in love with this drama. For those who are hesitant of watching this drama, don’t be because this drama is a masterpiece! There are no words to describe how amazing this drama is. It’s just that good! For someone like me who doesn’t watch/like historical dramas, I was very impressed by the quality and I don’t think any drama can top this one (well at least to date). The cinematography, production, costumes and OST were perfectly executed and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Pacing
It does start off a bit slow at the beginning but it does pick up the pace at episode 3 or 4. I’d also like to point out that episodes 15-17 were also kinda slow but other than that, the overall flow of the story is good and doesn’t really have any pacing issues.

Characters
- I love the female characters so much. Both very strong characters and don’t rely on anyone. We’ve got one that’s a sniper and the other who does fencing. I also just like to mention the fight scene between the two as it really showed some women empowerment. A power duo indeed!
- There’s a little bit of bromance between the 3 male characters, which I absolutely loved as well. I wish we got to see more of that.
- Ae-sin is my favourite character hands down!
- I live for Eugene, Ae-sin and Dong-mae supremacy.

OST
Every track perfectly matches the scenes and is top tier.

Cinematography
You can tell that they really thought about what shots, colour grading and angles they wanted. It was like watching an Oscar-worthy film. No doubt that this drama has the best cinematography to date.

Overall, this drama is one of the best ever made and for someone that doesn’t even like historical dramas as much, that kinda speaks for itself. This drama will always have a special place in my heart that’s for sure! I do suggest for you to really know the history before diving into this drama just so you can fully understand what is going on. I personally did a bit of research before watching. GO WATCH IT! IT’S WORTH IT. TRUST ME.

Slow first half, amazing latter half

Watching the first half of this drama was very slow-paced and really focused on setting the plot and characters up. I get that it takes time before you really get into a drama or for the plot to start rolling, but for me, it did not get interesting until Episode 10. I was literally giving up on this drama and I kept asking my sister if it was going to get interesting. Episode 5 apparently is where most people started to like the drama. It had an interesting cliffhanger but then lost me again within the next episode. This drama could’ve easily been squished into 10-12 episodes rather than 16. Overall, I still gave this an 8 due to the cinematography & production, OST and the second half.

From Episode 10 we get to see how the plot unravels and how our 3 MCs are all connected from their past lives. It was fun to watch. I didn’t feel bored from Episode 10 onwards. I’m really a fan of dramas that have the concept of time travel and history incorporated in it. So every time they would show flashbacks of their past lives I would get excited. I also loved that we got to see the bond/friendship between the 3 MCs in the latter half that we didn’t really get to see in the first half.

The OST I’d say is top-notch and one of the most underrated!! Definitely worth adding to your playlist after you finish watching this drama. Satellite (a fan favourite) and Writing Our Stories were my faves from the soundtrack but they’re all good!

If you have doubts watching this drama, I suggest for you to give it a try! It’s really for those who are patient and can handle slow-paced dramas. Since I got bored until Episode 8, what I did was I only watched 1-2 episodes a day or whenever I had time to watch it. I didn’t pressure myself to binge-watch it or keep going just to get it done. It is worth watching from Episode 10 though, well at least in my case, but it could be different for you. I know that not getting invested in a drama by Episode 5 is discouraging but for those who love books, time travel and past lives this drama is for you!

One of the best KDramas of 2020!

For those that are sceptical about watching this drama, do yourself a favour and watch it now!! I have only recently finished watching this drama and I can easily say that this is in my top 10!

Firstly, I just wanna mention the OST!! Each track matches the scenes really well, particularly Start Over and Stone Block. These two are the ones that I can just listen to or jam in the car all the time. I also love Still Fighting It. Just every time I listen to that song, it’s very uplifting but at the same time it makes me feel nostalgic and sad in a good way.

I love all the characters from the leads to even the supporting characters. Everyone would expect me to choose the ML as my favourite character but the FL is the one that stood out for me. It was sooo refreshing to see a female character who was a badass and can fight back rather than always being a damsel in distress. It was so satisfying watching her scenes. Now although the leads are what makes this drama, we must also give credit to all the supporting characters. They really uplifted the show and gave that light and funny element that we always crave for in dramas, making it a fun and enjoyable watch.

As many of you already know, Itaewon Class is a slice of life type of drama. So don’t expect a big plot with many twists and turns. It has none of that. It has a simple plot and it is very character driven. I know a lot of you get turned off with character driven dramas cause even I do sometimes but this is one of those times where it’s an exception. IT IS WORTH YOUR TIME.
