confusing plot but couple had good chemistry
major spoilers ahead, read at own risk
The couple in this drama has such good chemistry, I could feel their love for each other throughout. The casts did well portraying the characters, and I felt the process of him falling for her. The way he stares at her and constantly looking out for her is so attractive though. Wen Xi’s character is also super cute, love how she’s always so bubbly yet so sensitive towards You Ning too. You could tell she has special feelings for You Ning throughout too. She looks out for him, and understands his trauma.
Their love transcends all time and space, as they fall back in love with each other no matter which timeline they are at. You Ning has also loved her from the first timeline to wherever he time travels to, always trying to save her by changing small things in the past. I think this is the only charm of the drama, their love and chemistry.
The time travel plot interested me initially, yet I felt that it turns out to be flawed and made the show less bearable to watch. The time travel plot makes it very confusing, and difficult for the audience to get into the plot (or maybe it’s only me). For example, whenever the plot is happy, I don’t feel happy because I know that the timeline will change again in the future and it’s not certain. Or another example is where the future changed and Wen Xi cried, but I’m confused as to why she’s crying because I don’t know what happened in the past that caused that? Everything just felt super uncertain and confusing throughout.
Towards the end, the last 4 episodes, which are so tragic btw, are less confusing as the plot is more certain and you know that there aren’t any more major changes to the timeline. I feel that the writer of this drama hates You Ning though. He has to handle all the pain alone from the start of the drama and they even made him suffer on the last episode. Poor him.
Also, for someone who only like to have happy ending for all dramas, I felt that I would have been okay with the ending on the beach. The actual ending felt very out of place and feels extra though I’m sure it’s to make the audience feel better after breaking all their hearts.
Apparently this is on iqiyi sweet on but I don’t think it is fitting to be there. Sure, there are some sweet moments, but there seem to be more sad moments than sweet ones.
The casts’ acting skills are very good, as you could really see the difference as they acted out the different ages. When they cry, it really breaks your heart too despite not knowing the context very well. There are also scenes when you just feel so bad for the characters as someone who knows the story (towards the last part of the drama).
The music is also chosen well as they bring out the different moods of the scenes, which I appreciate a lot.
Overall, I wouldn’t really rewatch this except for the cute scenes. I wouldn’t recommend this too unless you’re okay with the confusing aspects which it comes with. However, I would recommend you to watch it for the casts and the couple’s chemistry.
