cute little drama for people who wants something short and cute :)
first of all spoiler warning, not too much but definitely spoilers!!This was a cute watch. the lead have chemistry together. I wasn't a huge fan of the actress that played the female lead before but after this, I know she has potential to be a good actress. Her acting is not bad at all, but at time she can be a little stiff, and I feel at certain times, her acting is a bit modern considering this is set in Ancient China. At least her crying scenes are nice. The actor who played the male lead is actually quite a nice actor, although, his crying scenes made me giggle a bit. I heard about him before and I've seen a few dramas with him in it but he wasn't the main so this is my first time watching something he mained in.
The plot is quite nice, the investigation parts were interesting to follow a long with, but at times it was a bit unrealistic, but over all it was interesting. I loved the enemies to lover type feel that the mains had. At the beginning they hated each other but as they spend more time together they realize they aren't so bad after all. I love that trope so seeing how loving they were towards the end just made me really happy.
I actually loved the sister/SFL. Her character honestly had a lot of depth to her, she didn't feel flat. All of the things she did towards the end were acts of jealousy towards her sister. After being in her sister's shadow all these years and her sister clearly didn't treat her very nicely (of course she still care about her). When she needed her sister the most, she was never there. For example, that one scene where it was thunderstorming and the SFL is terrifed of thunderstorms. She simply asked her sister to hug her. She was in a super vulnerable place and she just need her sister, her blood-related sister, to hug her and the she didn't even do that. I understand she was trying to tell her that there isn't always going to be someone who can take care of her and she needs to know how to take care of herself, but would it kill you to freaking hug your sister?? She got fed up with everything especially after being SAed. Everything she did was honestly not completely out of line. I am definitely not saying the things she did were the right things to do, but you have to understand she was SAed, and no one was there for her. Her sister was always super harsh on her even when they were children. Yes, she cared for her but she was still super mean to her just because her personality wasn't as strong as her sister's. I honestly relate to the SFL just a bit.
I really didn't like the 2nd meal lead much. He was honestly really annoying. He isn't as annoying as other drama SMLs but not likable. He treated SFL so badly. She should no have drugged him but she reflected on it. He kept reminding her how she wasn't as good as her sister. It just got on my nerves.
This drama also has a very strong feminisms message, which I loved. The female lead's birth mother likes her brother over her and basically neglected her when they were children. This was very common back then and is still very common today. The female lead wanted to prove that she can be anything a man can be, and even more. The female lead is strong, independent, and courageous. I understand towards the end why she didn't forgive her birth mother, because I wouldn't have either. Sure she doesn't hate her anymore but that doesn't mean she has to forgive her. She basically neglected her daughter, she was never there when she was growing up simply because of her sex.
Would I rewatch this? No. But I would recommend this someone who just wants something to pass time because drama honestly isnt as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Dare I say one of the best of 2024...
I love every minute of the this show. Personally, I thought the ending was really confusing but it still somehow worked. The last 3 episodes was so just so much information for it to be mushed into 3 episodes. The ending felt really really rushed and for that I had to bring down a point. The storyline other wise was amazing as well as the cast of characters; from the main character to the side characters, everyone was very well flushed-out and they're not just NCPs in a story; they are their own characters and have a flushed out story. The ending message was so meaningful: "When can someone love someone else at 100%? Of course it's not when I love you more than I love myself. It's only when I truly love myself, believe in myself, then I can full-heartedly and truly love you."Casting choices was amazing. Yu Shu Xin and Ding Yu Xi did absolutely phenomenal. Their acting was so well done from the micro-expressions to the emotional scenes to the comedic scenes. However, I wish they would've let DYX use his actual voice in the drama because it suited the Zi Qi so well. He has that youthful rebellious voice that suits him so well. From the second I watched Moonlight, another drama with YSX and DYX as the mains, they've been my favorite duo/couple because their chemistry is so good together. Please, I need another drama with them. I love how this is both YSX and DYX, and Zhu Xu Dan and Yang Shi Ze's 2nd time working with each other as couples. ZXD and YSZ were together in Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact. YSX, DYX, and YSZ all worked together in Moonlight as well.
Overall I really really loved this drama, truly one of the best dramas of 2024, if not only of my personal favorites of all time (it changes a lot, but i think it secured a spot in the top 10).

please stop writing idiotic FMLs...
the most important thing for me when watching dramas and enjoying them is that the main cast of characters need to be somewhat decent characters. i love me a morally-gray characters but ashu is not for me. i cannot explain my dislike for her. she genuinely gets on my nerves so much. for example, ashu was selling fake makeup and gets caught because the person who bought her makeup start to have an allergic reaction. she gets in so much trouble for it. then she is supposed to go to jail but she puts the blame on the yuan mo. he goes to jail wrongly instead of her. then she has the nerve to get upset at him for being upset at her because she put him in jail because she didn't want to own up for her mistakes. he also had to spend like so much money for compensation for the victim so he was like you have to pay me back the 20贯 and she agrees BUT to pay for this, she starts charging HIM money to pay back the money SHE owes HIM because SHE wrongly put HIM in jail.....AND HE FORGIVES HER???????? WHAT THE FUCK?????? genuinely hope she develops (i feel like this is very unlikely) into a better character because im abt to drop this show bc shes getting so annoying 😭 and to think they're going to get together is fucking insane because WHYY would u get together with the person who wrong you so badly...besides the FML, i love the rest of the cast of characters. i love dramas with a big cast and they're like a found family.
tbh such a waste of tan jianci's talent. he is the entire reason why i watched this. his acting is of course always phenomenal. i've never seen him do a comedic character. really nice to see after his character xiang liu got done SO BADLY in 长相思 (lost you forever)
i can't really say much more because i haven't seen the rest of the drama, but i really just wanted to rant about the female lead. im going to give it a 7/10. but right now, it's at a 6-6.5/10. but i don't think it'll get any higher than 7... watch it if you want to se TJC but warning, you may get pissed off.
