I went into this show for Suzy and Seung Gi. I stayed for the endgame and the awesome characters and also the few but still amazingly cute Hae Ri/Dal Geon moments.

Soooo PLOT:

If you need A LOT of romance - which I usually do - you will not get that. However, the few glimpses of it are truly pure and cavity inducing sweet. Which is where I live and it was enough for me.

I really like the pace of this show and the way information is delivered. A lot of dramas in this genre tend to dumb down the plot, which I don’t mind but at the same time it’s kind of like okay… I see where this is going lets just skiiiiiiim. With this drama, you kind of always have a sense of distrust of the characters because there’s always just something not clicking? Which is awesome, because you know something is off but you don’t see the endgame. Honestly, the fact that I came back and finished this is the reason I gave such a high rating. I very rarely am able to stick to dramas in this genre all the way to the end.

On to CHARACTERS.

Dal Geon and Hae Ri. Love them, typical lovable core leads. Tae Woong was honestly the most stale for me? I adore Shin Sung Rok but nothing about the character written to pop? He was just kinda there. Hanging out, doing this second lead thing helping to move the plot along. I did however see a lot of people had an issue with Hae Ri’s character I guess? But honestly watching the show, I didn’t see the problem? She’s supposed to be stumbling, earnest and making mistakes. She’s a rookie. And this just sets the foundation I think, it’s to provide us with the contrast for her growth in HOPEFULLY the next season. I think the writers did an amazing job setting up these characters to show their growth. That’s what I enjoy about good dramas, I don’t want perfect characters that know everything and are just Mary Sue clones and on the other hand I don’t want constantly bumbling ‘weak’ characters that need to be saved by dumb luck.

JESSICAAAAAAAAAA - girl. You my new favorite. I wanna be you.

Lilyyyyy love of my life. Badass with a sort of moral code. KIM DO SOO can the both of you just like get together and have a spin off of assassins in love.

IN CONCLUSION. Please watch it because I thought it was wild and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope you do too.

To say I was surprised is an understatement. I walked into this drama without reading the synopsis, but I figured it would be along the lines of Sassy Go Go or School 2017 ( which both leads had supporting roles in).

Story: Definitely real. At moments, heart wrenchingly real. I watched this all in one go, but I think if I had been watching it as it aired I might have had an issue with the pacing of it.

Acting: Superb. Honestly, I wasn't too surprised with the leads. Park Se Wan has always delivered in her support roles, she just has that presence? It was only a matter of time before she landed a lead. Jang Dong Yoon was amazing as well, he's kind of a veteran to the student role (Side Note: I really want to see him in a drama next year where he is not a student - A Poem A Day does NOT count, he's essentially a student). The chemistry between them was lovely. The supporting actors were impressive as well.

Music: Just so sweet. It melded really well within the scenes. The only reason I didn't rate it as a 10 is because there wasn't any song in particular that made me stop the episode to find and download it and then continue on to listen to it a million times.

Rewatch: I loved it, they did an excellent job with this drama. However, for me this isn't the type of drama I could rewatch.

Overall: Just an unexpected treat to find at the end of the year. The only minor thing is - I really don't care for the time skip trope as sometimes its used needlessly. However I think this drama could have made it work in the final episode.

First time reviewing, but I just HAD to because of Lee Yoo Ri. OMG Her acting is phenomenal, she is so ridiculously beautiful and so talented. My god I’m so impressed, she went all out for her character. Literally my favorite actress. I can’t even. Can I just be her? I’m literally planning to bingewatch everything she’s ever been in. Honestly, I'm so impressed, its hard to put into words because even in some of my favorite dramas no matter how strong the female leads start out they tend to fall in to the helpless victim trope from which the knight in shining armor appears to either throw fists or money at problems and rescue the helpless female. Which I get, like sometimes thats awesome to watch, but srsly we're in the 21st century. I loved the relationship between Jung Hwan and Hye Yeong, because he was there to support her. She's self sufficient and she can fight her own battles, and he was there to cook her comfort food. Can we see this more often please? Because thats real love right there. Just amazing job on creating strong/positive female role models that kick major butt. This applies to all the actresses in the Byun clan.

Which takes me to the next point; applause all around, I loved the relationships between the siblings. I honestly went into this drama because I wanted to stare and Lee Joon's face, I did not expect to fall in love with everyones storylines. Literally, the first episode hooked me. I got extremely invested in everyones happiness. I always go in for the romance but srsly the family dynamic is what stuck out to me. So many little moments that just made me smile.

I very rarely rewatch dramas, but this is one of the few that I definitely will because it makes my heart happy.

INNER PEACE.

wildddddd

this was wild - I enjoyed it so much. beneath the bizarre there was a lot of unexpected depth and some really touching moments. the youngins in this cast were a delight, I look forward to their future performances. Jung Yoo Mi was amazing as always, I have yet to be disappointment by her. Nam Joo Hyuk seems to grow with each role he takes on.

I understand this may not be for everyone, but I do recommend that you give it a try. I honestly didn't even watch the trailer so I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I didn't even realize Joo Hyuk was in the cast, I was just going based off of Yoo Mi but I really did love it. The music was incredible, cast was phenomenal and story was so strange and I loved every minute. the six episodes were the perfect length - would have loved to watch more but satisfied with what I got.

Y’all need to watch this -

Y’all need to watch this - I’ve been in a slump with dramas lately. Nothing has been really keeping me hooked, I will start a drama and lose momentum within 2-3 episodes. I had this on my to watch list because of Lee Kwang Soo (I’ll come back to my adoration for this man). I am disappointed this was only 8 episodes. It was so good, I wanted to keep watching. I loved all the relationships in this community, they were so heartwarming to watch while you saw the plot unfold. I read reviews of some twists being predictable, and yes while this is true, so what? It was executed very well. The story line was engaging and even when I suspected one person, they did a good job of making everyone look suspicious. I watched this on Viki and it was awesome reading all of the theories in the comments as you watched the episodes. Honestly this is one of the stand outs for me this year, I’m not sure how many dramas I’ve watched so far this year but this is the most memorable.

Lee Kwang Soo. I adore this man, he is so refreshing to watch. I am so late to his fan train that I feel embarrassed. I remember watching him in Innocent Man all those years ago and I liked him but I thought he was typecast as a support role. It wasn’t until I stumbled across Sound of Your Heart that I realized he was leading comedies and he’s so good. His timing and delivery and facial expressions are everything.

Jin Hee Kyung is fabulous - she delivers her roles so well. I remember her from Fight For My Way, she was a minor character but I adored her so much in that drama. She is so lovely, I would love to see her headline another drama. Also I was crushing on Shin Sung Woo, “his face is all he has” lmaoooo. Do A Wee is a little sweetheart - Kim Seol Hyun really played this role so well, she is so charming. I loved their little MS Mart Family, all of the characters Fish, Veggies, Butcher, Part Time and little Yul. Loved them all. Part supermarket part detective agency. I really hope they make another season, this is definitely a show that can carry over into multiple seasons especially if they keep it to the 8 episode format.

6th Rewatch - Still Amazing

I am writing this review after watching this drama for the 6th time. Yes, this drama is that good. Each time I watch it, it’s like a serotonin shot. It’s so funny, and so sugar sweet. The writing is original, the characters are one of a kind and you are rooting for them all, except for the villain obvs.

When I say the characters are well developed, I mean it. From the main leads to all the side characters, they all have unique personalities and the relationships among the characters are so well written that each interaction comes off so genuine. My favorite is of course Do Bong Soon followed by Min Min <3 just heart eyes all around for these two. She does the cute stuff sooooooo well like its so natural. I think we’re all Min Hyuk in awe of her like everytime he goes in to squeeze her that’s what we’re all feeling lol I loved their interactions, I loved how open and honest Min Hyuk’s adoration was for Bong Soon. I am not religious at all but his love for Bong Soon reminded me of this verse:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
It was so pure, and wholesome and actually really unique to this drama because I don’t think I’ve seen anything similar with the leads before. Tsundere leads are nice and all but THIS, MIN’S LOVE it was everythinggggggg.

i also really loved her parents, especially her father that was just such a sweet father/daughter relationship and the relationship they built with Min Hyun. Last but not least was the second lead, this is the first time I have enjoyed the second lead arc. Here’s the thing, with second leads you know who they are and you know how it’ll end. But a lot of the time, I feel like writers don’t give that character their closure. Especially when that second lead is supposed to be a life long friend, they make their relationship end on a really pathetic note but that definitely did not happen here. It was mature and respectful of their friendship, I loved that. I never once cringed for them and I usually hate having to do that.

Music, SUPER POWER GIRLLLLLL omg so addicting. I love the songs in this drama, they were just perfect. They did an awesome job queuing them up in just the right places

Rewatch Value - like a million. I legit rewatch this drama like every 6 months when I get bored and hit a slump and can’t find anything good to watch. It just lifts me up. Also this is one of the only dramas that I rewatch to the last episode. I have a few favorites but I honestly don’t ever rewatch them to the very end.

The only complaint I had was that I had one last ship in this show that did not set sail but had potential. Can you watch and guess who I am shipping?

epic Seo In Guk rewatch timeeeeee

so this is actually my second time watching this - and wowwwwww still amazed by the story and the acting. brillianttttt. the first time I watched this was I think about 2 years ago. I was obsessed with Seo In Guk's face so I binged everything he'd starred in. I remember going into this show with extremely low expectations. why? idk even though it had Jang Nara (literally one of my favorites, she has never let me down) and yet I did not expect much? I was incredibly happy to be proven wrong. It was the first time I was introduced to the amazing that is Park Bo Gum and his incredibly emotive eyes. (I don't know how he does it, but literally I die when he gets sad, like why baby boy.) Also Choi Won Young, really? I'm sorry, but I know some of dem boys be evil but I kind would have loved a spin off of psycho detectives hunting other psychos? because the three of them kind of made the best team ever.

I was really impressed with Seo In Guk, the majority of dramas I'd seen him in around the time I'd watched this - they'd been light bubble gum sugar sweet romcoms. so I was kind of bracing myself because I didn't know if he had the range? And honestly he did amazing with this character but I was still hesitant with him playing that older brother role. Even halfway through this show I didn't know how he was going to pull that older brother character but damn if I wasn't wrong again. He and Park Bo Gum really played off each other so well - especially the final reveal. Literal chills.

I am huge on romance and there is definitely romance in here, however it is the minor part of the drama and honestly I wasn't even mad about it because you get CONSUMED by the plot. which is the best way to go for real.

I've been stuck waiting for dramas to finish because I cannot watch a drama while it is airing so I usually rewatch my favorites (Strong Girl, Suspicious Partner, Vincenzo, Itaewon Class, etc) but I literally just rewatched those recently so I figured I'd go through my list and rewatch dramas that I couldn't really remember. All of the stars in this drama are for the Hwarang boys!!! I honestly was hooked due to the character growth of each of the boys. I loved watching them grow and become self aware adults and also their relationships with each other. I also loved all the ajusshis in this drama, all my favorites in one place.

On to romance - I feel like this should be a category since whenever I read reviews I want to know about the romance in each drama. I honestly love romance but the romance in this drama was just not for me. This is not a dig at Go Ah Ra, I adore her in everything she does, she always plays her characters really well and she has phenomenal comedic timing. But when it comes to playing off of a romantic lead it just always feels.. I honestly don't know the word. Usually when I'm watching moments even small ones with the two leads, I have to pause everything I'm doing to pay full attention and I'll even rewatch the same scene because I'm so invested but when it came to Ah Ro and Moo Myung it didn't even phase me. I didn't feel the connection to their relationship so I wasn't invested in it.

Would I rewatch this drama again? I mean I already did, no regrets it was a nice and easy watch. Would I watch it again for the third time? Probably not.

Honestly loved it. It was super fluffy squishy cute. I was not at all invested in any characters, will probably completely forget all plot points and everything about this drama within 24 hours BUT while I was watching it, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m not grading as harshly as others, because it honestly isn’t a drama to take seriously, I think that’s apparent within like 15 minutes of the first episode. Surprisingly though it was the first time I found Jung Il Woo, Awn Jae Hyun and Park So Dam charming. I’ve seen them all in other dramas and I never really cared for their acting?characters?IDK I just never got the point of them? but they were adorable in this drama.
