This is for the people who like wholesome dramas without any tedious conflicts
So you might think from the headline that I'd give this a solid 8-10 rating, right? No, that's not the case, but I don't by any means think this is a bad drama. For me it's just an ordinary drama and I know people are gonna disagree with me given that the average rating on MDL is a 9.1.
LIKES
-There was zero toxicity in their friendships / relationships. And I know that seems the bare minimum, but it happens quite frequently. I do have to say that I don't particularly hate toxicity. I could even love it if they have the chemistry (*cough cough* Doona!)
-Even though Su Zai Zai has a very bubbly demeanor, she isn't naive, nor stupid and stands up for herself.
-WIFTY'S SIGNATURE SONG
-I found it really refreshing to see the girl chasing the guy instead of the other way around. WE NEED TO SEE MORE OF THAT. Also, some women say they don't like the girl chasing the guy. Imo, that screams internalized misogyny
-The beach episode!
-Gu Ran's confession to Jiang Jia. Damnnnn. He has a way with words
-It makes you want to have the same kind of friend group
DISLIKES
-The last few episodes. Yes, it was a happily ever after. That's good. However, it was so... unnecessary. Sometimes we don't need writers to add whole episodes about the characters after high school when their story already ended IN high school. It makes the ending feel rushed. Sometimes we just need a SHORT clip of them as adults. Nothing more, nothing less. And maybe let Guan Fang finally have a girlfriend (Guan Fang was my favorite)
-As much as I loved the main couple, why was she still acting like a child as a grown woman? AND THEN SHE GOT PREGNANT? I genuinely had a jumpscare. Another reason why the ending was rushed
-I prefer character-driven stories. This was not one of them. A few characters were given backstories. but they did close to absolutely NOTHING with those backstories
-Why did we get sad backstories / life stories from ONLY the boys in their friend group?? Why didn't we see one of the girls struggling with a hardship? That gives me the impression that the author of the original novel likes writing about 'broken' boys. And girls can't have any flaws in their lives of course! Su Zai Zai's life was too perfect. Even Guan Fang and Gu Ran had a backstory. I think that says a lot
-Their friendship felt too perfect. There wasn't any messiness
-Jiang Jia liking Gu Ran felt sudden. She never showed it. Not even a subtle sign
Overall, not a bad drama. I just wish it had more depth in it
