Enjoyed it!
I'm not into Republican Era drama but Chen Xing Xu caught attention. He looked so good in military uniform as did all the supporting male characters did as well. The story is well-paced. Male and female lead is both smart and strategic. They were made for each other. I enjoyed watching male lead scheme to get his way, in a good way of course. He comes off as a jerk but that's just a cover. Female lead is a smart business woman and she knows what she wants, whether in business or love. She doesn't allow male lead to string her along and she stands up for herself. All the supporting cast did well in their roles. There are ones you love and ones you hated so much. I think the only character I found truly annoying is male lead's sister. The music is okay but for this drama, I wouldn't want the music to be the redeeming point. Overall, I'm glad I stumbled on this and gave it a shot! Was this review helpful to you?
Looking for romance?
This drama is pretty much Princess Ling catching her man lol. Overall it's a cute rom com to watch. The plot is not heavy so if you're looking for hard core palace intrigue and schemes, not this one. Definitely recommend if you're looking for lighthearted, flirty girl chases cold guy drama! Some of their scenes are definitely not period drama appropriate but we like it! I'm sure if the drama had more episodes, we would get a better indepth version of our lead couples as well as the plot. YBY and ZYC is cute. Merxat looks good in here and for once, he's not chasing the female lead. I would rewatch the episodes just to see the two leads shamelessly flirt with other but that's about it.Also, aside from the villains, most supporting characters were likable. All the grandpas or dads (besides one) were supportive and acted cute in their own way. Even some characters who we thought would be the typical villain turned out okay (ML childhood female friend).

Sweet and simple watch
If you need a break from hardcore, angst drama, then watch this! Plot is fairly simple and the drama is easily solved. It's somewhat relatable drama as this is something typical that us normal people also deal with, but not the ex bf problem. Like almost everyone, I was only interested in the lead couple. I skimmed thru the side couple story. I pretty much watched two, mature working adults make their relationship work in a busy, higher-up job. The keypad building up how the ex bf will try to get her back and I was expecting something climatic but it was resolved quickly. Overall, it was a chill drama and a good break from all the other heavily plotted dramas that's out there right now.Was this review helpful to you?
A mature drama!
I thought the lead couple in You Are My Hero was mature but the two leads in Imperial Coroner outdid them! The two lead characters are very smart and mature. They trust each other so much and know how to communicate well. This is unlike other lead characters who sometimes have trust issues which leads to misunderstandings or other unnecessary, negative situations. As the episodes progressed, I'm just amazed about the two leads. The storyline is great. It flows well and not boring. The supporting cast plays their role well. I'm almost done with the drama but I can't help but to compliment how the characters and story is written!Update: I finally finished and I think the only flaw to this drama was that it ended so soon so we don't get to see more of our lovely couple! I would also like to see Jingyi and Miss Leng as well as big brother Jinli get together with their special other! The plot was intense to the last minute and I enjoyed every second of it! Love, love, love the lead characters so much. Rarely do I see a lead couple who trust each other so much, understand each other so we'll, and always thinking for the other person. They do not get caught up in little drama. The second couple are very supportive of our main couple. No girl fights, no male macho-ness, just pure brain! Prince An and his brother also has a loving relationship! All the characters we meant to love are loved and meant to hate, we hated. Again, well written!

Started off strong but....
The drama started off strong and I was looking forward to watching it when new episodes came out. But halfway thru I started to lose interest in the story. I thought Darren's character started to make irrational decisons when it came to Duanmu. Maybe it's just me but I expected more from a man in uniform. Duanmu's brother was a bit too overprotective and made excuses for his sister. Wengu was too obsessed with Duanmu and Hong Luan too obsessed with Wengu. It was just too much of those for me. I forced myself to finish Season 1 since I already invested so much time in this drama. I am not picking up Season 2.Was this review helpful to you?
Highly recommend!
Part 1 was good development. Part 2 wrapped up everything nicely! The CP romance was solid. I followed and rooted for them all the way! Both leads were smart and strong and held onto their beliefs. Both were naive in the relationship department but learn to grow as a couple. They had their ups and downs but it was resolved quickly and wasn't draggy. Omg best royal parents ever! I LOVED the emperor! He is like your fun-loving, cool, nosy uncle! And empress and consort, best sister relationship ever! None of that catty royal drama from them. All that catty crap came from the princesses and noble ladies but they all got what they deserved eventually. It was so satisfying watching all of them got put in their place. And I also loved ML two guy sidekicks. Such loyal and dedicated "brothers" to ML. Great brotherhood there. You have your typical male villains but what drama doesn't??? Regardless all the backstory was interesting. The direction of the drama was beautiful. The cinematography was on point. Some scenes I went "wow"" because of the direction and acting.
Overall, highly recommend! Love CP and love emperor!

Not bad
I really like Ju Jingyu and Joseph Zeng. They make a cute on-screen couple. The drama started off good. Some politics, some comedy, some romance. The second half was nothing but drama after drama just to separate our lead couple. Some supporting cast had too much screen time. There were villains you really hated. I hated it after EP 32 but I powered through. It picked back up at 39 and though the ending felt rushed, it was a happy ending and everyone got what they deserved. The story could've been better and blamed the writers. The pacing could've been better but I guess that's on the post editing team for dragging out some plots. Joseph's outfit was on point and he looked handsome in every scene. JJY outfit is questionable. They added unnecessary fluff but maybe that's to add some volume to her tiny frame?
Overall, it was a cute romantics drama with some palace politics that went on for too long and unnecessary misunderstanding with our lead couple in the 2nd half. I'd say give it a try.

Simple and lighthearted!
This drama focuses mostly on family and relationships! All the other plot (palace politics, harem drama) are touched on but gets resolved quickly. All the villains eventually repent. No lingering hardcore villain to keep us on the edge of our seats to the end. Plot is overall simple and lighthearted.ML and FL is really cute. I loved BJT in YAMH and Reset so I was excited to see him in a costume drama. He continues to be a cutie to look at! FL is really cute with her big eyes. They make a cute CP in the drama! All the other characters did a great job in their supporting roles. Either you love them or you hate them but they add to the lovely, crazy, sometimes, nerve wrecking family dynamics but everyone eventually sees the right of way!
My only con for this drama is that some parts are a bit draggy and there was a bit too much emphasis on sisterhood for me. I also think there was a hint of a BL relationship but that's hush hush.
Overall, a great watch!

Simple yet engaging
I know a lot of people were turned off by FL at the beginning but she is a market girl after all. She can be unruly and rough but deep down, she's kindhearted. Yes ML and FL did start off shaky with the arranged marriage but FL still went with it. ML is your rare, loyal, kind bookworm. He is truly a bookworm and naive to certain things and that's when FL comes in and helps him. Their relationship grew into a mature and almost realistic one. She truly fell in love when she found out how righteous he was and supported him regardless of the danger. He had to correct her sometimes when it came to scholarly stuff but never in a demeaning way. I enjoyed seeing them progressed as a couple.2nd FL and ML were the right BFFs for the lead couple. All were smart, righteous and wanted to do good for the people. I sensed some bromance every now and then. 2nd ML just needed to find the right friend he can be cool with and he found it with ML! I just loved seeing how they are loyal to their friendship and trust one another wholeheartedly. I even enjoyed fake cousin Cui.
Besides the main villain of the drama, you still have minor villains or annoying characters. Their plot didn't drag and they either got what they deserved or they turned over a new leaf.
If you have time, check it out. If you're able to get past the first few eps, go for it. If not, it's okay to skip. Overall, I didn't regret watching this drama.

Great watch!
Even though it's not up there with Mr. Queen, it was a great watch and I looked forward to new episodes every week! ROWOON is so cute to look at and I love his non-conforming male behavior. I think he played a bit more of the feminine role here but it complements the female lead who has to play the male role! I felt the plot is unique and interesting. It's simple as in other than the villain we already know, there's not a lot of misunderstanding or evil side schemes that comes between the major evil scheme. There are some minor flaws in the plot but what drama doesn't have flaws? All the supporting characters played their roles well. The ones you should love and the ones you should hate. The dad and male lead had a complex relationship but it worked out. The supporting female characters were lovable. I enjoyed the last episode as it was true happy ending, not a half-@$$ed 5-min cut of an implied happy ending. Was this review helpful to you?
Interesting
In general, I don't watch wuxia much cause it's not really my genre. I only watch if I know the leads. This is probably my third wuxia I've watch in decades (Legend of Fei and Word of Honor). First thing I felt when watching SSS is the cinematography made me felt a bit nostalgic. Something about the color scheme of drama made it feel a bit old school which I liked. I did enjoy the overall story even though the pace was too slow compared to what I'm used to. I like the banter between Fengnian and Xu Xiao. Their dialogue was the realistic kind of conversation versus the long, draggy, poetic with an implied meaning conversation. Both father and son are smart and strategic. The whole time watching I'm always wondering what their next plan is or who plotted this or thought of this. Father was always thinking ahead of son. Just like Legend of Fei, I thought Fengnian was so lucky cause almost every master he encountered, he got something out of it. Every conflict he came across, there was always someone helping him because they were returning his parents favor. Everything worked out for him. Even people you thought was against him in the end wouldn't dare to touch him. Everyone had one goal and that was to keep the world at peace. There was very little romance which was okay. I would rather the lead characters don't become entangled in relationships in stories like these. I thought the last episode was really epic. I did not see that coming. Overall, I don't regret watching the drama. Was this review helpful to you?
Interesting!
This is not a typical genre that I normally watch but I watched for Wang Yibo. The storyline was interesting, though I wish the ending could be better. I did like the background music. It's very different but it kind of sets the tone or mood for the scene. I like the chanting lol. I liked how the ML and FL relationship developed. It was mature,l and at a nice pace where it felt real. 2FL and 2ML relationship was eh. Even though 2ML grew into the relationship, I found 2FL annoying. Overall, all the cast played their role to make the storyline worked. I don't regret watching it. It was a nice change from the rom coms that I normally watch. Was this review helpful to you?
