The two dramas are similar for the double meaning of the piano for the leads, and because in both the mother is a teacher of piano.
In "Page Turner" the characters vehemently desire to be professional pianists someday, so sometimes playing the piano is torture for them, even though they're still in love with it. While in "Piano," the instrument symbolizes for the characters their days of happiness, and at the same time the nostalgia for a time that will not return.

Both are melodramas about two people with no real kinship that are raised as siblings and fall in love in the path. In both cases, the lovers hide the truth to not hurt their families, except that in "Piano" the protagonists share a sister, causing that society really sees them as part of the same family. Sad endings.
