First, I love 2 Moons. I love the books, and I love the original series and cast. I love it so much that, when I learned this was a remake, like everyone else, I didn't want to watch it. I HATE when shows change casts like that, you know? It's the worst, and one of my biggest peeves, but, of course, because I was thirsting for some more BL, I decided to give it a go, and man am I glad I did!
I love 2 Moons because of how true to the novel it was, but I love 2 Moons 2 because of... well, everything! I love the acting, the way they incorporated some storylines from all three books to give us more than just P'Pha and Wayo's story, and I absolutely ADORE the side couples~ It took me a minute to warm up to them because of how much I loved Ming and P'Kit from 2 Moons, but I feel like Joong and Nine fit the roles waaaaaay better. I even think Pavel and Dome are a better P'Fourth and P'Beam.
In conclusion, I love both version for different reasons. I think the best way to go about this is to watch both versions, giving them equal chances, and compare them when you're finished, but accept their differences. Just because one version is better for one thing doesn't mean the other version sucks because it didn't have that thing.
Also, just a thought: is it just me, or are the people who read the books the one who generally don't like this version? It doesn't show a lot of the best scenes in the first book, so I understand their qualms, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed that too~
