easy to binge and not take so seriously

I think if you stop wishing for this to be something it's not (an 80 episode political sageuk epic or a fully comedic fusion where bad things don't happen to any character and no one dies... it's neither) and just accept it for what it is which is a somewhat lighthearted somewhat serious sageuk with a romantic focus, interesting character interactions, a constant looming danger of discovery, and some bloody consequences... it's a lot more fun... and if the actors had been less talented it wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable as it is (Park Eun Bin in particular is great)

this drama also taught me to never raise my sword to slash at someone because someone will stop me with an arrow or by coming out of thin air 95% of the time lol

the only drama that I always smile through the tears for

when I think of my favorite dramas of all time, nothing ever quite manages to knock this one off the top spot. where plenty of other shows would take a premise rife with illness and confronting death and funeral processions and turn it into a misery-fest (ML lies about terminal illness to escape loan sharks, turns out to actually be terminally ill without knowing? FL who grew up in a funeral home is desensitized to death and only cares about money, latches onto ML hoping he’ll leave his “fortune” to her when he dies, and instead genuinely falls in love with someone in debt and dying? a makjang writer’s dream!) Flowers for my Life stayed loyal to it’s title and took every small moment to celebrate family and friends and neighbors, honoring death but also life, time spent with the ones we love, grief, and the beauty in every part of it. there’s introspectiveness, and laughter, a cast of characters who truly care for one another and feel like humans trying their best with what they have instead of being caricatures (not an annoying second lead in sight, they’re perfect) and of course there’s sadness, because loss hurts us. grief is often thought of as love with nowhere to go, but this show knows death is part of life, and the pain and weight of a loss won’t always be such a heavy burden.

I’ll never understand

every time I'm reminded of this series I get annoyed especially remembering how much time I spent hearing Paradise by T-max... that song shaved at least a year off my life I think... this wasn't my first impression of kdramas (when people say this I feel bad) but I was a fan of Hana Yori Dango so I was interested when it came out... however it's been 12 years and I've never rewatched it and never will because I love myself and hated this adaptation but the OST that I can still hear in my head, truly haunting
