This is my first supernatural period drama. The plot isn't inviting, but the execution is very engaging for a melodrama. Slow paced, hence, fits the melodramatic approach. The religious belief/concepts helps with the build-up. The musical scoring makes moments more sentimental. The acting is perfect, not too much and no off scenes. The ending's good but it didn't help my heavy heart after completing the series.
I am more drawn to upbeat kdramas. Aesthetically maximized ones too like Empress Ki. But this definitely enchanted me with its leads and uniqueness.
Overall, this type is something I'd watch if I'm not looking for or expecting anything in particular and have lots of free time. And if you're really feeling it (the religious drama stuff, twists and all), you'd be engaged midway that the end won't be that acceptable.
