It was enjoyable and average at first but became boring

I decided to watch this drama because the plot attracted me, plus Xu Kai's in it. To be honest, I would have dropped this drama at around episode 14 or so... but since the drama is quite short and not like a 40+ episode drama, I kept going. This drama wasn't complete trash, but it definitely had flaws that had me skipping a lot of scenes and had me rolling my eyes.

The first half of the drama was humorous and enjoyable, but it wasn't great. During the second half of the drama, it just became boring to me. The supporting characters weren't interesting because I've seen those kinds of characters many times already. I found myself skipping a lot of Xiao Fengming and Yunshan scenes as I did not care for their storyline. However, I did find Long Wei'er's storyline to be unique. I also had some problems with a few of the actors/actresses acting ability and that includes Wu Jiayi. I know some people have the same opinion as me and some think her acting was fine. Personally, I think her acting was quite dull. There were many scenes that gave her a chance to show some convincing emotions. I do believe she can act better and maybe she was just following the script. And lastly, the second half of the drama became draggy and then rushed. The plot only started to move forward at around episode 17(somewhere around there), and I think the writers should have moved the plot forward a few episodes earlier. And in my opinion, that resulted in a rushed ending. They also have another option which is to add more episodes(around 30 something episodes).

I have a few other things that annoyed me like the master and some illogical parts, but I'm not gonna get into it. Overall, even though I did enjoy the comedic scenes and the first half of the drama, I personally would not recommend it.

since i started watching Chinese dramas back in 2018, Nirvana in Fire was always recommended. now that i have finally finished it during quarantine, i now understand why it is such a masterpiece in the Chinese drama land.

at first it was slow but i knew it was gonna pick up so i’m glad i didn’t drop it. once it picked up, i was hooked all the way. the story and characters were very well written. each scheme was brilliant and the execution was great. the actors and actresses did a wonderful job with their roles. and i, like many other ppl who like this drama, loved the bromance between Jingyan(prince Jing) and Lin Shu(Mei Changsu/Su Zhe). and not only that but the friendship between Jingrui and Yujin was nice as well.

please please please try watching Nirvana in Fire. even if you aren’t a c-drama fan, you will be surprised with this incredible show. honestly, what are even doing if you haven’t watch this show haha

what a journey

I've always loved any story that is character-driven and focuses on family ties and/or friendships. And Nirvana in Fire 2 was the perfect drama for me. I was and am very much emotionally attached to the characters.

In the beginning, Xiao Pingjing lived a carefree life away from the complicated political matters his elder brother and father faced. And I will always love those moments when he was playful around his family and Lin Xi. He always wished to stay that way, and his family and the emperor who favors him also wanted that for him. Xiao Pingzhang is one of the best older brothers I've seen in a drama. His meticulous, calm character balanced out Pingjing's joyful and impulsive character. And their father, Xiao Tingsheng also stood out. The loyalty he had to his brother, the emperor, and his teachings that he passed on to his sons really showed that Lin Shu/Mei Changsu was indeed his master. And Meng Qian Xue(Xiao Xue) is a wonderful wife, sister-in-law, and daughter. The Changlin family's relationship with Xun Feizhan is nice as well. I loved that not only was he a friend to Pingjing, he was also like a brother figure. I also liked Lin Xi with Pingjing and I'd love to see more female characters like her. Since the drama spanned over several years, you get to see many struggles and challenges they faced. And you especially get to see how Pingjing grows out of his carefree life, so it was not hard to care for these characters deeply. Finally, the ending was satisfying and I feel like it was very fitting.

In NIF1, Jingyan created the Changlin army to have Lin Shu/Mei Changsu's spirit live on. For me, that especially made me more attached and care for that army and the Changlin family even more. It added the love I had for Lin Shu/Mei Changsu to it. Also, whenever he(or any character from NIF1) was referenced, I was happy but emotional as well. I don't know why the writers keep referring Lin Shu/Mei Changsu as "the gentleman" or "this person" or "master" instead of saying his name(I guess Mei Changsu is fitting 'cause only ppl close to him knew his real identity).

These characters(including ones from NIF1) will always stay with me. I really recommend this drama whether you have watched the first one or not. It will be an emotional journey, but I hope you will get attached to the characters as I did. :')

i remember when Ancient Detective started airing and i wanted to check it out but just never got around to. and then i saw the positive reviews here on mdl, so i decided to binge it since it's pretty short. although it had some flaws, i thoroughly enjoyed this drama and i wish there was more dramas like this(whether it is this type of genre or not).

what surprised me most about this drama was the cinematography and the intense action scenes. the scenes in the first case especially had some beautiful shots. speaking of cases, each case wasn't intricate but it was good enough for the audience to make their guesses without using extreme and detailed knowledge. i also enjoyed the side characters that we see throughout each case that Jian Buzhi and his friend Zhao Wohuan came across. however, i wasn't a fan of the romance between Jian Buzhi and Zhan Shiqi. it didn't bother me that much but i just think their romance could have been non-existent.

overall, i recommend this underrated drama for anyone who likes detective dramas. even if you're not into this kind of genre, i think you will like Ancient Detective anyway.
