We are products of our past but we do not have to be prisoners of it.
Another intense episode as Doldam Hospital and the Trauma Center faces an onslaught of patients in the bad weather.1) Love the moral of this episode, as hinted by multiple characters:(1a) "I believe that without a past, you don't have a present. If you love the present, there's no past you can't understand." -- Yoon Ah Reum(1b) "Everyone has their own "when I was your age" stories. I would not be there today if not for those experiences." -- Teacher Kim(1c) "...I spent the past 3 years learning that from Master Kim. You did not missed it, Professor. I missed it." -- Cha Eun Jae(1d) "Don't assume that others had it easy while achieving the things they worked so hard for." "I wonder what would have become of me if I had never met you"-- Seo Woo Jin"(1e) I have not lived in such a sloppy way to be rattled by the likes of you." -- Park Eun Tak(1f) "After losing Assemblywoman Ko's son, I've started to doubt everything I know." -- Jung In Soo***SPOILERS AHEAD***2) Liked that Teacher Kim was in charge of the entire situation, giving instructions to even the military in the Hospital. And glad that Teacher Kim scolded the Military and Manager Jang Gi Tae - Teacher Kim was that angry but it was his way to show his love and to teach people how to remember how to better handle such situations next time.3) Liked that Park Eun Tak did not give in to the threats of his past's bad acquaintances; and how one of the younger ones in that group was confident that Eun Tak would not do as threatened. 4) It was fatherly of Prof Cha to immediately called his daughter (i.e. Cha Eun Jae) to evacuate. Even though this is not becoming/professional of the center head, he does care about his daughter.5) Glad that Dr Yang Ho Joon was unaware of the entire situation and busy writing his Chicken Burger excuse, as he would have been very noisy (and usually not too helpful in an emergency, unless someone else was on his back).6) Loved how Teacher Kim handled the two 3rd years differently based on their humbleness/arrogance.(6a) Liked that Dr Bae Munjeong and Lee Seon Wung were both humble and insisting that the other was the reason why the surgery went smoothly.(6b) Glad that Jang Dong Hwa went to hug Seo Woo Jin after the whole situation and knows that the shooting games he love playing (to the extent of skipping his responsibilities) are not reality. (P/S: Jang Dong Hwa's aloofness, immaturity and arrogance still gets on one's nerves but it is recognized that there are occasional displays of him growing very little by little, and well, perhaps such a personality who is not perfect is necessary for this series so packed with perfect personalities.)7) Nice senior doctors in Doldam Hospital who teach and encourage their juniors, and enjoy seeing them grow. Very warm environment in the harsh coldness.
Man-made disaster - No time to ever catch a breath at Doldam.
Decrepit building in a redevelopment area. The many cracks in the building were insufficient to the scare the humans and businesses continue to operate - a tuition center, a dance studio, a tteokbokki store, a laundromat, etc.***SPOILERS AHEAD***--LIKE--1) Teacher Kim is once again in charge of Doldam Hospital and the Trauma Center because the Trauma Center Head (Cha Jin Man) believes he should prioritize the lawsuit to treating disaster patients. --MINOR LIKES--2) Dr Cha Eun Jae and Dr Seo Woo Jin skips lunch as they prioritize the emergency, and rushes to the scene - shows how they are truly Teacher Kim's students.3) [19:25] Nurse Park Eun Tak leading the walk out (as part of those dispatched as the First Response Team) with Jang Dong Hwa and Manager Jang Gi Tae behind him.4) Dr Yang Ho Joon is behaving like a doctor in Doldam Hospital. He can treat patients and is not a paper doctor after all.--NOT A FAN--(1) Irritating student who:a) ignores the fact that her parents are paying for her tuition fee and skips classes for the dance studio;b) slurs at the teacher trying to bring her and her friends to safety;c) insists on not leaving the dangerous collapsed underground floor (with the excuse that she would only leave with the teacher as she felt bad for slurring at him, despite the teacher coming to her rescue regardless of her rude behavior earlier in the day), delaying the rescue and risking the lives of the rescue staff even further.(2) Trauma Centre Head (Cha Jin Man):a) ignoring calls from the Trauma Center during work hours - one wonders if he would pick up his phone if his beloved daughter called or if someone rich and powerful called;b) [10:31] thinking that he needs to go to Court to explain what is needed to "look better for the Trauma Center" even when other high-ranking staff believes that it is putting an elephant into the fridge.c) [10:45] insisting that (in his own words) "the complaining party should put up with the shortage of medical staff due to the useless lawsuit". [Food for thought - does this imply that innocent patients should suffer the consequences due to a separate incident?]Note: >> Nothing that wrong with the Trauma Center Head's decision as it's his choice to make and determine priorities as a leader. While it's clear what most fans of Dr Romantic prefer, people may or may not agree with his choice.>> Just wondering if the Trauma Center could have mass SMSed every doctor (including the Center Head) of the emergency situation so that they can all do their part, instead of wasting precious doctors' and nurses' time calling people who will not pick up?(3) [09:10] Assemblywoman Ko using the lawsuit for personal/political reasons:a) To "not put a price on her son's life", but to question why "a large sum of money from the provincial budget must be used on a Trauma Center, when Doldam Hospital already exist";b) To "prove the illusion and worthlessness of the Trauma Center" through her son's death - in her words, this was the true objective of the lawsuit.Note: >> It is fine for her to try to prove her point using the way she thinks is most effective, especially since it is her job to make sure the provincial budget is used wisely. However, her words:i) makes it harder and harder to sympathize with her loss as a mother; and ii) makes one question her capabilities and intentions as a politician, and whether she is actually using whatever means, including her own son's life, to gain popularity (or facetime with the media/reporters) instead.
A very long episode 1 which almost felt like a movie. It was filled with excitement and almost non-stop action.Main cast was already amazing, but look at the support cast appearing in episode 1...Some vibes of Hanzawa Naoki... perhaps the split personality? #terrorism #moneyLaundering #embassy #business
The process must be just for the reason to be right
Kang Dong Joo knew the Congresswoman will be "attacking" the Trauma Center very soon after he first observed her interaction with DIrector Park, and doing his homework before coming back to Korea. He knew that things had to move fast, but probably did not expect troublemakers to forget their professionalism as Medical Officers - both characters only appeared from Season 2 onwards:> Doctor Yang Ho Joon (by Ko Sang Ho)> Nurse Joo Young Mi (by Yoon Bora)***SPOILERS AHEAD***[39:26]“No matter how just the reason is, if the process of achieving it isn’t right, then it isn’t right.”Besides, you know better than anyone else, that the person closest to you was hurt by a boycott for a long time.Did you really have to use this method to handle this issue?I’m not saying it’s wrong to be angry. You can go against it if it’s unfair. However, as you get older and go through life to become the adult you are now, instead of nitpicking and asking “What’s wrong with you?”…you need to ask “Why are they doing this?”And put yourself in their shoes.Once you understand them, there can be endless possibilities for a solution to the problem. Okay?#KimSaBu #S3Epi14
(1) His return in Season 3 of Doctor Romantic had been hyped about for many episodes in this season and it is not surprising given the roles he had played:a) Yoo Yeon Seok plays the character Kang Dong Joo in Season 1. He is Doctor Kim Sa Bu's 3rd disciple.b) Yoo Yeon Seok also plays Jeong Won aka Andrea in Hospital Playlist. ===========(2) More than just the excitement based on a well-received actor/character, Kang Dong Joo's role in Season 3 finally give viewers a clue into a question which the last 12 episodes of Season 3 had been probing:"Is Doctor Kim's philosophy as a doctor (as compared to the beliefs adopted by other successful doctors in the series) the "correct" one to follow?"i) **Prof Cha Jin Man repeatedly reminded Dr Kim that he is teaching his students the wrong things and leading them to lawsuits, their injuries (if not deaths); and Doctor Kim himself have shown us how he pondered deep about the questions/claims from Prof Cha.ii) **Dr Seo Woo Jin got himself injured and might never be able to use his left hand as well as he did before.iii) **Dr Cha Eun Jae was questioned by her father, whom she deeply respect, on her ways as a doctor.**Note: nothing right or wrong about all these, just stating some possible examples of what Season 3 have been doing to reflect the doubts our dearest Doctor Kim Sa Bu had been showing us in Season 3.*****SPOILERS AHEAD*****Kang Dong Joo gave us the following thought-provoking statements, after Seo Woo Jin tried to justify Cha Eun Jae's actions as "[1:03:49] We are just doing what Master Kim taught us to do":[A] Do you know why the parrotbill dies while chasing the stork? It's not because it cannot keep up with the strides. It's because the parrotbill loses its way while trying to chase the stork. The moment it loses its way, everything is over.[B] The only person who can be like Master Kim is Master Kim himself. Don't hurry after him trying to keep up with his pace. You might lose something else and not just your hand next time.[C] Do you know what? Master Kim might represent what our approach should be. But you cannot be our goal. If you do, we will never be able to succeed.===========(3) Kang Dong Joo continues to refer to Jung In Soo (by Yoon Na Moo) as "Senior In-Soo", as in Season 1, showing his respect to the senior who have always looked after him when he was still immature. And honestly, Jung In Soo is such a wonderful and kind character we all learn to liked since Season 1.===========(4a) When the Trauma Center was up and does not seem to be working very efficiently under Prof Cha, viewers often question:i) Why can't it be the ER in one place for efficient triage?ii) Why is there a need for a new building connected to an existing Doldam hospital with a Head that Dr Kim deems he himself should not be?iii) Why separate the limited staff into 2 groups?Viewers had been annoyed with Prof Cha not simply because he seems jealous of the favorite character (Dr Kim Sa Bu) and hold different philosophy from the favorite character. Many viewers do appreciate that Prof Cha defends the doctors' profession and the stresses doctors face. However, Prof Cha did not seem involved in the operation of the Trauma Centre at all. Things were all over the place in the Trauma Centre despite the Center getting the most experienced staff from Doldam. The haphazard operations of the Trauma Center (in the last few episodes of S3) led to the Congresswoman's son's death and trauma and stress faced by ER Doctor Jung In Soo.(4b) Kang Dong Joo is addressing all these questions by bringing in proper order and processes, so that the Trauma Center was not build for nothing and could really save trauma patients. (Re: Order is important in the medical setting, as reflected by the use of medical traige, different medical departments, etc.)Note: Cha Eun Jae raising her voice at a senior doctor openly, whom Dr Kim brought in as the leader of the Trauma Center, is simply rude and arrogant, especially by Korean standards. [57:33] The fact that she lost her cool in the operation room and the stress she is felt (after not following the rules/processes set up for the Hospital and Trauma Center to operate efficiently) tells us that the writers are telling us she is wrong - she is showing that she thinks she has higher moral values than Kang Dong Joo.On a plot note: It is recognized that Cha Eun Jae and Seo Woo Jin's uneasiness around Kang Dong Joo was used to make the plot not too "simple minded". In other words, if everything simply goes perfectly with the on-boarding of Kang Dong Joo, the story might be too boring for viewers and this can lead to other kinds of criticism regardless of many viewers' anticipation for the return of Kang Dong Joo.===========(5) Kang Dong Joo and Seo Woo Jin performing an operation together was amazing to see. Their coordination and speed, silent rapport, is what we always love in the operation room in the Doctor Romantic Series.[55:30] Liked how Seo Woo Jin was impressed by Kang Dong Joo's capabilities and speed in the operation room, which reminded him of Doctor Kim. It was really nice to watch the more junior disciple supporting the senior disciple of Doctor Kim Sa Bu because Doctor Kim never want to be the one and only doctor saving lives. Throughout the series, Doctor Kim had shown us how he recognizes the efforts of younger doctors and tries to teach them to be a better/skilled doctor to save more lives.===========(6) Nurse Park Eun Tak (by Kim Min Jae) again shows us that nurses are very important medical staff in the hospital and not secondary to the doctors.[57:44] Eun Tak supported and helped Cha Eun Jae get back her usual coolness and get her back onto her feet. This was a constant message Dr Kim tried to remind us throughout the seasons so that people have more respect for the nurses. It was very subtlety displayed through Nurse Park Eun Tak, just like how Head Nurse Oh Myung Shim always was a great support to Dr Kim and the other doctors in the 3 seasons.
A beautiful ending under the wisteria trees, very fitting of the atmosphere and setting in Kyoto.Episodes were short but they were filled with a good theme that was well rounded within each episode each time.***SPOILERS AHEAD***--Liked:--(1) Competition:Results were realistic and the comments were sincere. Love the fact that she was ahead of the ex-chef Togawa (who left for Hanabusa).(2) The relationships:The characters were true to themselves from beginning to end. Leads (Amane and Ichika) were thinking of each other always in their own ways. Whether it was the hotel chef Tajima, Ichika's mother, Ichika's aunt, Amane's brother and sister-in-law or Amane's father.--Just some thoughts:--(1) Ending:While the manga is still ongoing...Somehow, it felt like the last scene under the wisteria trees, could have been the back view of the both of them holding hands while walking back to their home together.
