I AM SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED WOW
Okay why am I so shook?!?!?! That was actually so damn good?!?!?! Bruh wtf I loved it?!?!? I AM SO SHOOK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WHY WAS THAT SO GOOD?!?!?!?!? It had me so damn invested like where I’m waving my arms about and gasping at the end of episodes and covering my mouth in disbelief and squealing at cute bits?!?!?!? Boi huh?!?!? In advance I apologise for how messy this 'review' is gonna be lol, it's mainly just me fangirling but I promise I still say things of worth ahah
Okay so: I obviously had this on my radar because Hwang In Yeop was starring in it and wowee we love to see our fave boi in main roles yes In Yeop get that bread. I know we always wanna see our faves in absolute main roles, but he 100000% was cast in the right role for this drama, if he was the main main role in this it wouldn’t feel right ygm? The role he was cast in fits a lotttt better like the ‘too cool best friend’ is definitely where it’s at. Seul gi is such a bean awe I love him.
All the scenes where the whole gang are havin’ a good time or day out were so fun! Genuinely made me smile so much and made me super duper happy. Lighthearted fun you just can’t help but smileeee they looked so happy! :D when they played in the sea! Awe I adored it.
Also just wanna say that the first couple of episodes actually made me laugh loads lol, idek what specifics there were the acting was just really good and the humorous parts really did the trick. I feel like the later episodes weren’t as purposefully comedic or comedic at all really but I didn’t mind, I didn’t think they needed to be, I was happy with the level of severity surrounding 'the situations' presented (obviously I won't go into details dw). Things still remained fairly lighthearted though which I enjoyed, it was refreshing. The comedy at the beginning was a really enjoyable way to introduce the basis of the drama and was suitably fazed out as it went on, very satisfying ?
AGAIN I WON'T GO INTO DETAILS BUT: omg this drama has one of the best executed twists in it I have ever seen. It was short and sharp and satisfying, ADORE IT it has me SHOOOOQUE. The way the plot unfolded was great as well, the twists throughout were exciting and shocked me and kept me shouting at my laptop the whole way through.
I like how things weren’t forced in this drama ygm WE STAN REALISM. I think it was well paced for a web drama. This is my first Asian web drama that I’ve watched and understand that plot goes a lottt faster than usual dramas but I feel like it still wasn’t rushed which was great. I feel like the excitement was well condensed into the 2 or so hours of content. Quick thing: I did watch all of the episodes at once so I basically experienced it as a movie, idk if that changed my perspective on the pacing of it or not but I just thought to mention it anyway.
However, I feel like although I absolutely loved it and I did in fact get a hint of the ‘omg I’m in disbelief at how amazing this is’ feeling, I didn’t get that feeling hitting me like a truck ygm? I believe what contributed to the lack of getting hit by a truck feeling is that it is a web drama- with it being so much shorter than usual dramas (despite, like I said, the excitement being well condensed), there wasn’t as much time to build an unbreakable bond of obsession with the relationships and dynamics going on. Don’t get me wrong, the characters were great and I love them all but ain’t gonna lie I didn’t remember all their names for a pretty long while. I do think it is difficult to build that kind of ‘obsession’ when a drama is so short. It is pretty much the length of a movie and I am having trouble naming a character from a one off movie that I love to such a great extent. For example all the High School Musical characters are from a series of films (my favourite movies of all time), not just one yaknow, and people who love Harry Potter have an entire series of books AND films to obsess over. A KDrama equivalent would be Seo Jun from True Beauty (can you tell I love Hwang In Yeop lol). We had like, 20 hours to fall in love with his character and truly understand him, and I feel like that kinda attachment wouldn't come about if True Beauty was condensed into the length of a movie.
Okay I must say: I probably won’t rewatch this. I feel like it was an exciting one to watch but now knowing what happens I feel like I would get bored? Even if over time I forget the plot and feel like watching it again, I feel like it would all flood back to me quite quickly and then nothing would be a surprise anymore. There isn’t enough to make me excited enough to rewatch because a main driving force of this drama was the twists and how the plot develops but now that I know what the twists are and how everything unfolds there’s nothing new yaknow? The mystery genuinely really intrigued me all throughout but like I said now that the mystery is gone there’s not much left, especially since I don’t have a very strong emotional connection with the characters. I have to say the feeling I got immediately after finishing the drama was amazing, I was so shook it had me lost for words I couldn’t believe it and because of how well executed it was just ah *chefs kiss*, but idk if I would get that same feeling again, I think it would be a one off thing. The unfamiliarity and mystery was a big part of this whole experience and added to excitement and I am very much glad I watched it, but wouldn't want to be disappointed upon second viewing.
Overall, very pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this! Genuinely made me so happy and made me interact with my screen by exclaiming to it many a time whilst waving my hands about, love to see it, always a good sign. Hyped to watch more web dramas in the future, this sure has set the standard high lol, I doubt that all of them will be this good but I will be, again, very pleasantly surprised if they are :D overall: 9/10 due to the wonderful feeling it gave me and that WONDERFULLY EXECUTED TWIST, but not 10/10 due to the lack of true connection with characters, likely as a result of it being a short web drama
Just watched the bloopers, awe, I feel all cosy and warm inside. It makes me really happy that a web drama made me feel so happy and cosy despite being so short, even though that’s what probably prevented this from being a 10/10. A whole gem of a drama, love it love it love it ?
