confusion
Most of the scenes were realistic and authentic. Countless troubles in the family almost never bored me. I believe that a good drama depends on not lead roles but support roles. This drama was one of such. The supporting people were excellent. At first, I didn't recognize Yang Zi as Hu Xiang xiang. Because her skin was darker and her lips were wilder than recent Yang Zi. The difference of her looks really confused me.
Of main roles, the character of Jun shan was adorable. Seemingly, he looked a devil but actually he was a good guy as a son in law or a superior. In the first episodes, his existence made the drama quite lively and exciting.

an unrefined boy
this drama must be a remake one of the Korean drama with the same title. Xu Kai must have been a rookie in the movie industry then. I can't believe he is the same Xu Kai as I see today. He looked quite unrefined. I suppose his appearance has totally improved by been watched by a number of people,Was this review helpful to you?
an acceptable fantasy drama
I don't like fantasy dramas. I am a fan of Xu Kai. Unfortunately, most of his works are fantasies. Therefore, there are not many I could access. So, at first, I didn't intend to finish all the episodes but I happened to finish them. Because the storyline was solider than I expected. Plus, some authentic sceneries were superb. Also, a foreign concession was so exotic and it reminded me of the long history of China. He wore a white Chinese dress casually and it was so cool. Am I the only one who realized a few lines were missing in the last episode. Was this review helpful to you?
a little touching scene
the storyline was not so bad. I used to be familiar with military dramas in western movies involving women. They were usually nurses or female soldiers. In this drama, getting a female trainee in the dormitory for men could be impossible. First of all, a women would be through the physical checkup. I don't think Chinese military is that sloppy or careless. Though I feel very sorry for Chinese people over the invasion of the Japanese army, depicting our army looks rather too rough. Of course, I like the male lead , but I felt he showed off too much there. His friend's relationship with the flower shop owner was quite touching. Their scene was a minor thing. But, in another site, I found another woman has the same idea as me. Also, the soundtrack for passing by the tomb by her was short but unforgettable. I loved the background scenery such as streets, towns, or the regular pub.Was this review helpful to you?
a well combined drama
The drama was well combined with matters of politics, romance , history, comedy, friendship and so on. I am an anti fantasy drama lover. I am so glad this drama was fantastic partially but it was not a typical fantasy drama actually. The female lead's statement ' once I get pregnant I will kill you and let my son ascend to the throne,,,' This apparently confused him first but he later became so happy remembering the romantic night. Her statement is quite unique and unforgettable for me. Also his confusing look was so lovable. The two characters in the sketchbook were really cute. The fighting scene of the first night of their marriage was quite stunning. The male lead usually star in a fantasy drama but I wish he could star in more decent and realistic dramas in the future because he is so versatile. I'd rather love him in traditional costumes. Was this review helpful to you?
