There was potential.. but the execution was simply ok
There had been quite a lot of potential with the set up of the story, I really enjoyed the beginning portions. But a lot of the middle part of the show just fell flat for me. The intentions behind people's actions felt very one-dimensional and laking in actual human motivations. I was very disappointed in how they wrote both Hongshim and Yul's character decisions for majority of the show and skipped through a lot of it for the latter half of the show. There was quite bit in the show that felt very much glossed over - for example how Yul found out he's not actually Won Deuk - the way the scene showed the interaction felt like there will be some sort of explanation but there was none. Some of the palace drama seemed petty/insignificant and felt very much like troupes being applied in the stories. Overall, I had high expectations on how the characters would develop/story unfold, but it did not meet what I expected.

Great character development
To be frank, I was surprised by the writing of the show and didn't expect that I'd like the story line this much. The focus on the characters' internal developments and how they stayed the same/differ from their past selves were a joy to watch. I love the dynamic between the teenager Ha-ni and adult Ha-ni, learning about the moments that shaped who the adult Ha-ni's life choices. I also appreciated that the romance line going on is a sub-plot and that there are actual progress of the two falling for each other. The only major issue I have regarding the storyline is the time skip at the end, the way the ending went doesn't makes sense based on how traveling generally work (if you change something in the past, the future will change). I suppose it's ok for having a very nicely tied up ending. Was this review helpful to you?
The acting is great but the story... so so
I'd really wanted to watch this movie after seeing the promo Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In did with Begin Again 3. The movie has a very nostalgic touch to it that makes you reminiscent about some time past. I loved music chosen for this movie, they were very fitting to the mood the story was trying to portray. The acting in the show is also very great. I loved seeing the different emotions Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In portrayed in the show... The part that I'm not quite satisfied with the movie is the story (which is such a big part of a movie). The way the conflict was set up and "resolved" (can't even say it was fully resolved) was so murky. I'm left confused by what exactly caused the climax at the end of the storyline and the "logical" reasoning it came to a resolution. There also doesn't seem to be too much of character development shown in the movie, albeit there's limited time for a story to be told in a movie format, but it just wasn't very smooth in my opinion. Overall, I think it was a solid movie considering the music and acting/cast but the story just didn't do it for me.Was this review helpful to you?

the FL's intention behind her actions baffles me...
i simply do not understand why the main character is making it such a big deal not telling her daughter about the dad and the choices she had to make.. it doesn't make logical sense...after watching ep 9 and reading through the reviews, this drama does not seem to be worth continuing, the storyline/conflict really doesn't make much sense. why is she against telling her pre-teen daughter about the father. The line where she's like "i thought i was doing a good job as a single mom" really took me about when she found out her daughter had been looking for the dad.. like being curious about your birth father is so normal and it doesn't reflect on the parenting of the single parent... so it was frustrating to watch as i did not understand the motivation behind the FL's actions. Was this review helpful to you?
