The way this drama was advertised and how it started off were about the MC cross-dressing and hiding out in a widow village. That was what drew me to the drama in the first place and ended up being my favorite arc in the drama. In reality, over half the drama was not focused on this. It shifted to the reason why assassins were sent to kill him and his family. After everything, there was really no resolution to the matter. The ending felt rushed and made some of the plot feel entirely unnecessary. The main couple were the reason I stuck with this drama. They were very cute and I was invested in their relationship.

Well, I am a little late to watch this, but I've finally watched it and I'm so glad I did. I literally cried the last episode, and not a lot of shows can make me cry. Here are my top reasons why I loved this drama:

- The story was compelling
- The characters were lovable and I was so invested in them
- (related to above, but) the relationships between the characters were so beautiful and both warmed my heart and tore it apart
- The protagonist was very intelligent

Please, if you haven't already, go watch this drama!!! This is now tied for my top favorite asian dramas that I have watched so far. Absolutely loved it.

What can I say about this drama? I'm literally listening to the ending song of the last episode as I type. This drama has been my favorite C-Drama to date. The cast was fantastic, the music was epic and beautiful and sad, the love between the two main leads was just *chef's kiss*. I could rewatch this again and again. 10/10 would /definitely/ recommend!

Other random notes:
- Bai Qian is a savage QUEEN and just an all-around BA. One of my all-time favorite moments of the series is when she is delivering some well-deserved retribution (those of you who're familiar with the story/drama will know who/what I'm talking about)
- 3rd Uncle is like the only one in the Heavenly Tribe that deserves rights
- Nai Nai is the only maid ever
- Zhen Zhen & Zhe Yan <3
- The Fox Tribe is the only tribe ever. They're so loyal. Love them all (except not so much you Bai Yi).

I'm excited to see how Fengjiu and Donghua Dijun's love story will be told in The Pillow Book. I wonder if they'll stick strictly to the novel or tie it in with 3310.

It was slow at first when showing the main characters as children in my opinion, but then it gets better as it goes on. I was happy with the romance, especially considering the ML accepted his love for the FL before he found out the truth of her gender and even more specifically her identity. I was really happy with how it ended. I found the acting to be great, especially Eun Bin’s. She did great in this role.

The only thing I had a hard time with was getting confused on certain royal family members and members of the court. This may be just due to my lack of experience with Korean historical dramas. I would’ve liked a family tree of the royal family.

Okay, this drama is hard to review for me. I really, REALLY loved the main characters and the actors who played them. Loved their chemistry. Loved the concepts presented in the show (even if they were different from the novel, which I have started a little bit of but haven't finished). I also think it started off a lot stronger than they ended it. There were so many things that I think they should've done just a little differently that would've made it so much better in the end. I had to have spoilers in here to be able to talk about some of those things.

*~*SPOILERS AHEAD*~*
1. Let's see...firstly get your story straight on whether Shen Wei actually waited for 10,000 years or if he was "asleep" till close to the present. I think the story is so much more impactful if he was awake for that time, since he did say he waited for Zhao Yunlan for 10,000 years. Kind of in relation to that, the show made it seem like he only knew him for one day and then he proceeded to wait for him for 10,000 years. I think it might have subtly hinted that Zhao Yunlan spent more than one day in the past, but if so, it definitely wasn't clear.

2. Almost everything about Ye Zun lol. Like, he had such potential. And it wasn't fair for him to look like that (Zhu Yilong you handsome man!). His backstory, though, wasn't built up enough for me. Like, what were his motives really? I would rather have had a lot more happen in the past between him and Shen Wei. But even then, I thought they were going to go the brother complex route and they didn't exactly, because once Shen Wei was dead (sort of), Ye Zun kind of just moved on? Idk...and don't get me started on his powers. He sucked up people through his nose? and they were just hanging out inside of him alive until they were sloooowwwlyy digested/consumed? Okay I'm circling back to the fact that after reaching adulthood (10,000 years in the past), Ye Zun and Shen Wei had one interaction. One. ONE. Why was Shen Wei so convicted against his brother and the fact that he was evil and whatnot? Idk man. They should have stretched out the past episodes more and developed a better backstory.

3. Okay, I just got to the end of my review and then I remembered this point that I can't go without mentioning. Why...whyyyy did the undergrounder that was in Zhao Yunlan's dad have to take Zhao Yunlan's body in the end? I did not like that at all. Like, could he have not gone into any other dead body? I'm not sure the logistics (because nothing in this show makes sense), but. It seems like it wasn't absolutely necessary that he take his body. Anyway...now that's just a complaint. But I really didn't like it.
*~*END OF SPOILERS*~*

Okay, I have much more, but at this point, not sure if I being helpful or just listing every little thing I didn't like about it. I will end this review by saying that even with the show's flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it! Like, you might have to suspend your disbelief for a lot of it, because a lot of things don't make sense. BUT. The characters and their relationships (mainly Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan) are so good. Like, I loved all their interactions. And I loved Zhu Yilong and Bai Yu who played them. Loved it.

This was my first Chinese drama - I'd only ever watched Korean dramas (and one Japanese drama) and wasn't sure if I'd like them or not. Well, I absolutely loved it! Now, I've watched several others and loved those too. Chinese dramas hit a little differently (at least the ones I've seen). Now, on to The Untamed :) This review will be coming from someone who didn't read the novel this drama is based on. That being said, I'm kind of glad I didn't. I loved how the show portrayed the two main leads and their relationship, and I believe it absolutely showed that they loved each other. The only thing I wasn't 100% satisfied with was the "vagueness" of the ending. Now, I firmly believe that someone was there when their voice was heard (trying to be non-specific here), but would it have hurt to show that person? I would have liked to see it xD I loved the fact that Wei Wuxian wasn't just a silly character, not that there was much time for being silly (prepare tissues), but he was so smart and they showcased it well. He was also really cool! Loved Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo as Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, respectively. They had great chemistry and did so well in their roles. Even though Wang Yibo didn't have many lines as Lan Wangji, he showcased his emotions so well with microexpressions. Loved it so much. I also loved the music in this series, especially the opening and ending. The duet with Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo is so beautiful. Okay now I'm just rambling. Go watch it!

This was my first fantasy Chinese drama and only my second Chinese drama overall. This is the longest drama I've watched so far, but I never got tired of it. There were some arcs that were better than others, but I loved the characters and both the main and side romances. It did seem like some of the main misunderstandings could have been avoided if people would have been honest with each other and had open conversations. Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed this drama! I loved the chemistry between the two main leads so much <3
