i cried for like 30 minutes and i never cry for movies/drama

I finished youth of may about 25 minutes ago and I just need to write a real review to let this off my chest.

I loved it so much. I genuinely love every thing about this drama. There's not one single thing I wanna complain about. Of course there are things that hurt, and that annoyed me, but that's the whole point.

The fact that Myeong Hee dies, the character who literally caused the least trouble and who just wanted to study in Germany and heal people, is just so painful but also so real. The fact that so many people around her survived and she couldn't , breaks me. I genuinely got so attached to her character, the way that she was with others, her humour, her outfits, her smile, i fell in love with all of her character and then she died... all alone, on the ground, bleeding out with no one beside her.

I also love how this drama taught me how quickly you can love someone. They only knew each other for a few weeks but they loved each other in such a pure, innocent way. I just loved seeing them together, they simply make sense.

It's a historical drama, so I never expected a happy ending. Honestly, I would've been almost mad if they had given us a happy ending cause this is something that truly happened, and sugar coating it by making all of the main characters live happily would just be... disrespectful to me?I don't know but i definitely liked it. Truth is she probably wouldn't regret dying, because she did manage to save her brother (who btw, must have horrible abandonment issues since both his father and sister said they would "come back", just to save him).

There are small things that were so well written, like the way Hwang Hee Tae's little brother gets shot in the leg (indirectly by his father i guess we can say), like his father literally taking his son's dreams away of running. We first see him with his fancy shoes making Myeong Hee's brother jealous, and now here he is, bleeding on the ground to save his sister (wearing those shoes).

Soo Ryeon's brother also realises just how stupid he's been for trying to hold his sister back. She had empathy and understood altruism from the start but some people, like her family, need to be thrown into the real world to understand that they're living on a cloud while everyone is in pain. Indirectly because of them and their actions.

Even the fact that Hwang Hee tae's father never truly gets punished is good writing to me. Sure he gets his position taken away and loses his family but he never lives through as much pain as the people he hurt with his own two hands. He's a monster who, in a way, gets away with it. Just like in real life.

Hwang Hee tae watching the music competition on the tv, crying in the cafe while handing out missing person flyers was so painful. He would have been on that stage if he had never met Myeong hee. Then in the graveyard, he looks up at a plane, just like Myeong hee might've gotten on a plane to Germany if she had never met him. Her father wouldn't have died either probably. yet so many other people would have died instead, because they saved them in the hospital.
I'm also proud of Hwang Hee Tae for partly keeping myeong hee alive by becoming a brave doctor, the same way she was a brave nurse. She's the one who pushed him to get over his fear of hurting people. And the parallel of him helping the nurse just like when he first saw myung hee.. it stung. then again everything in this drama did.

I also love how they switched the actors at the end, the way that the writers knew that seeing the older actors crying wouldn't hurt as much. Seeing young doctor hwang hee tae finding out that her body has been found was the peak of my crying session.

Anyway this was so so so unorganized sorry, it's more of a rant than a review. But i truly just love this drama, and I don't think I'll ever forget it. It was so beautifully written, the actors did an amazing job, the scenery was beautiful (the spring 1980s vibe made me feel warm and fuzzy), the OST was beautiful as well (my personal favourite is Starry night, thank god they didn't play it at the end cause i would've cried even more i think).
i started watching the drama right when the first episode aired (i was excited cause lee do hyun is my favourite actor) and i've been so attached to it since then. I'm sad it's over and I'll miss the characters a lot.
thank you for making me sob. I'll watch it again when I've healed.

A different but amazing drama you should consider watching!!

I feel like I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on this drama but let me keep it short: watch it.

- The interview format thing is really funny and original, and I feel like it perfectly fit with the story.
- The acting was so good I felt like I was intruding their fights and romantic scenes. The way he would look at her made me feel like I was standing there, bothering them in their intimate moments, whereas even though Kim Ji Won's character is the one creating the problems: i just couldn't hate her. her emotions were so realistic and relatable.
-The flashbacks to the beach were so calming and well-filmed, it made me miss summer and made me wanna take up surfing.

Overall it's just so refreshing and realistic. I myself loved popular dramas like CLOY but this one should really receive a lot of love as well, the story and the characters broke me and I'll definitely remember it for a while.

enjoyable if u know what to expect

I can't say i completely disagree with the many bad reviews, i mean the plot isn't necessarily perfect in any sense, and the drama is in big part enjoyable because of the good actors and chemistry.

Then again, I usually really try to base my opinions on dramas solely on how i felt while watching it, and since i would always be excited when mondays would roll around, since I fell in love with the characters, since I have the entire OST downloaded on spotify... I can't really say that I didn't like this drama.
I get why some people might not be super into it, after all it can get repetitive and, especially if you're reading subtitles, the quotes are "deep" without really being deep at all at times.
But i just couldn't help but really love the drama in general. I think the chemistry between the 2 main leads tied it together (I know everyone rages about the love triangle but? to me TDK and MM were the only ones i ac cared about) and i loved the script, dialogue, interactions between everyone.

I actually genuinely enjoyed the plot. I liked the story line, not only the interactions. I'm just saying it was slow paced and definitely not enjoyable for people looking forward to big ups and dramatic downs in every scene. But the plot was well written imo. (I feel like i can't say anything without being disagreed with and i'm cool with that)

It's just the love story between MM and TDK that i couldn't get enough of, to put it simply. Their personalities and their character development all felt relatable to me, weirdly enough. It's all put in this complicated setting but at the end of the day I just related to the characters.

I would definitely recommend this to people looking for something to get attached to. I watched 2 episodes per week for 2 months and i'm a sad that i won't be able to get new episodes to look forward to.

cute and enjoyable although one frustrating plot line

I watched this drama because I had seen Ok taecyeon in Vincenzo and I really wanted to see him play another role since (Vincenzo spoilers !!!!) he had played the psycho villain role so well. I had also just finished watching Oh My ghost so I think that's why i didn't expect the coma plot twist at all.

I was so happy about the plot twist and I hadn't expected it, I knew it would have a happy ending but I didn't really know how it would play out (i thought maybe she would find a way to be seen by others for example i dunno)
I guess some people might find it cliche but I know I genuinely enjoyed the storyline, the ghost fight scenes, the supporting characters (except the mum who was unnecessarily annoying), the OST, and despite the age difference, ok taecyeon and kim so hyun had great chemistry.

I think the one thing that truly bothered me, and it's a pretty big flaw, is the fact that Hyun Ji never gets to remember her time as a ghost (or spirit ig).. She still sees ghosts, and certain places feel familiar... yet she doesn't remember anything? That really frustrated me especially since they teased us with it multiple times (when they were on the bench with the flower trees for example). They never even address this problem at the end. I'm happy about the whole "she fell in love with him twice" thing, it's a basic line that i've always really enjoyed in amnesia story lines.. but then she should remember! There were like 45 mins worth of cute, vanilla, university scenes and so I was really expecting some kind of moment where she'd remember but nope.

Anyway, I feel like this is just a really good ghost-comedy-romance drama. It has the same vibe as Oh my ghost ,but in better because it has less flaws and annoying plot lines (i just watched it cause i love park bo young).

Great casting and cute story but terrible, disappointing ending

Honestly i really loved watching this drama, I remember watching it every Wednesday while it was airing... I'm always happy when they normalise nunna relationships as well!

But dang those last like what? 20 mins? ruined the whole thing lol i dont know what they were thinking?! I honestly just kinda erase that part from my memories which is why the overall rating i put isn't that bad.
The fact that he faked his own death??? To avoid truly breaking up with her and hurting her? That's the stupidest thing it makes me so mad. The entire storyline was so cute and the actors were so adorable too and I loved the piano theme and the soundtrack and the dynamics between the characters etc. I was truly disappointed when they ruined the ending this way. Sure they end up together but it's not even satisfying.

I wouldn't ever be able to rewatch this knowing the dumb ending, although I don't regret watching it in the first place because as I said, it's really only the last part of the last episode that's ridiculous.

i loved it sm but let me name a few flaws i wanna point out

it's 2:40 AM and i just finished this drama... i wanna cry this was so amazing.

i feel like i've mostly read positive reviews and i 100% agree but I just wanted to point out a few details that frustrated me, that were mostly due to the pretty abrupt ending i think.

--the boring first episode (and yet i also feel like it was important bc the rest of the drama is so intense)
-- the fact that we never see the "villain" at all after the future changed (ik since he never went back in time, little xie zhi qi never went completely psycho, but i wish we had gotten a glimpse of him again)
--we never see the "real" wang quan sheng ever again. like does he just commit suicide because of the bullying and bc he was in the closet? i'm sad we also didn't get to see his tragic ending change. I'll just try to convince myself the butterfly effect reached him and he never drowned.

for its genre, it's a really good drama

I feel like a lot of people dislike TB because they consider that it's cliché and that's it's been done before. Honestly I don't disagree, but that's just the thing: it's a high school drama about an insecure FL and a ML who helps her gain confidence...
I agree, it's been done before.
But frankly I feel like describing the drama this way doesn't really give credit to the execution.

I loved the main love story. My heart broke for Seojun, like everyone else's did, but I frankly didn't want him to end up with Jookyung. I agree that he practically carried the entire drama on his back and he's the reason why it became this popular, but I didn't mind him as the second lead, I just wish they had worked a little harder for him to have a happy ending. I feel like they used his pain to make the drama more interesting but I mean.. isn't this what writers are supposed to do? Make the story more dramatic? The ending hit hard because it made me wanna sob. That's the whole point.

So back to the main couple, i really loved them. I think they had chemistry and that their entire love story was well-written. At first I was scared they would drag out the whole "he doesn't know it's her" plot line but turns out he finds out rather quickly. People hate on Suho because they love Seojun but i just don't agree i think both characters deserves Jukyung just as much. Suho and her were just meant to be I guess. Suho went through so much and i didn't see him make one decision that was rude or out of line. I also feel like the pure, 100% love he had for Jukyung was exactly what she needed, whereas Seojun teased her too much. Although it's something, as viewers, we love, it might not be as fun for her who literally hates how she looks.

HOWEVER I loved Seojun's character so much that I really hope they write a character like him again as a main lead. Cause i agree, he's amazing. His earrings and hair and personality and naturally smokey eyes are what made this drama what it is!!!!I'm tired of seeing similar ML, although I loved Suho.

I loved Soojin's character, because it allowed a female second lead to pick herself up. I feel like male second leads are always like seojun: jealous of the main couple but still supportive at the end. Whereas the female second lead is always so toxic and manipulative. And sure soojin is all of those things but there's much more than just her jealousy behind it. You can really feel the build-up of her anger and pain because of the abuse she goes through at home. Her acting was great too.

Oh and finally the OST?? chef's kiss. Whether it's how do you do, Missing you, starlight, or even those 1:30 mins of Seojun singing flower pot? I finished the drama a few weeks ago and i still listen to all of these all the time.

Overall, I feel like you need to remember this is a high school drama, okay? It's mostly about the vibe, the outfits, the OST, the love story. Yeah it's basic but i feel like the execution is great, and I rewatched the scenes a billion times. Watch iiit and keep and open mind.

Cute feminist drama that I'm probably gonna rewatch when I finish writing this review

I really loved this drama. It's Cha Eun Woo's best one in my opinion, and I say this as someone who really enjoyed My ID is gangnam beauty and True Beauty.
Cha Eun woo's character is really cute and bubbly, whereas shin se kyeong's is a bit more serious which I love so much because I'm a sucker for relationships where the girl is more dominant.

The love story is cute and I love how prince Yi Rim completely respects her need to work and to be a historian who makes an impact and who tries to stop the corruption. Their chemistry definitely helps as well.

The ending is great too, I feel like I wouldn't have wanted it to end any other way :))
