Good rom-com with charming leads having strong chemistry
Overall, it's a nice, sweet rom-com, especially enjoyable when binge-watched. Zhou Ye and Lin Yi's strong chemistry was a pleasant surprise for me; I didn't expect it when I started the drama. Episodes 1-6 might not be everyone's cup of tea. Despite my dislike for the FL chasing ML storyline, having read the web novel, I enjoyed the initial parts, and Zhou Ye did a really good job. The series becomes really enjoyable from Episode 7 onwards. I appreciated that they didn't rush into the dating part; I dislike when dramas skip the buffer period and have the leads jump into each other's arms once any misunderstanding is resolved. That being said, I also enjoyed the pre-dating era because Lin Yi and Zhou Ye exude tension between GX and YQL perfectly. Their dating phase was sweet, intertwined with their work-related problems.
I didn't like that they omitted GX's parents' divorce and how it affected his life. It was a major part of the novel and kind of shaped his character.
They could've inserted more romantic scenes from Episodes 20-24. I liked the dynamics between YQL's parents and GX; it was so cute. However, Xin Yi and Junnan deserved more screen time; their scenes felt rushed and frustrating to watch. They could have removed the Feng RuRu subplot and dedicated that time to explore JJN's feelings about XY. Sorry, but the writing made me feel like my girl Xin Yi deserved better.
So even if it's not your perfect drama, it's a really easy watch, and you'll actually enjoy the characters because their only purpose in life is not just to fall in love! Such leads, especially FLs, are rarely found in the romantic Cdrama world.
