"Asoke`s Shadow" is known to be one of the most popular slap-kiss romances out there. With lots of misunderstandings that causes for angst and much suffering for our main-leads...it has a dark undertone to it.It has a very addicting plot with very vivid characters. Unlike most people,i watched the 1999 version first, cuz the comments appealed to me.Its also the oldest lakhorn i have ever watched and with my luck found English subtitles for it.I have also got to mention that Ae and Ek had MIND-BLOWINGLY SENSUAL chemistry together,he touched her ALL THE TIME and couldn`t even stop when he still said how much he despised her..ahh how i loved it!He was so passionate when he embraced and kissed her.Jamie Bouher did great job in pulling off the evil Nang Rai,her crazy antics both angered me and also made me laugh.Ek and Ae are beautiful together, both did so great in acting through the strain in their irresistible attraction towards each other.

By the way,i also plan to watch the 2008 version of "Ngao Asoke" starring Pong and Peung and will probably skip the 2016 version starring Sean and Eshter, not many people enjoyed it as much.

Ekarat Sarasuk plays as the good-natured and noble rich heir Monthai who thinks that his heroine the gentle angel-alike beauty Beechat (played by Ae Isariya Saisanan) is a gold-digging impostor of his girlfriends who he haven`t seen for 8 years since his depart to Australia. What he doesn`t know is that Beechat is the real woman who wrote him all the letters of love over all these years.Even not knowing this...he still can`t resist his heart that pulls him towards her.

I've watched all three versions of this drama and this is my favourite. I started with the 2016 version, then moved on to the 2008 one, and then finally watched the 1999 series. This has probably one of the darkest undertones of the three versions.

One of the darkest elements introduced in this series is The Hiruwat family raising Bpee with the intention to groom her into a concubine for Wat Hirunwat, the father of the family. While this revelation is horrifying, it adds to the story by highlighting Bpee's gratitude. I think this version explains the FL's gratitude and loyalty towards the Hiruwat family the best out of all the versions released. We see that she had once struggled to accept Viyada and her family and is not blindly thankful. She's aware of their evil intent but she's too thankful towards them to do anything. Unlike alternate versions, where she was essentially a slave, she was able to go to school and work. She is aware that without the Hiruwat family's support, she would have been reduced to nothing. Not to mention, the family isn't entirely bad, she did have an ally with Pa, Viyada's sister. Pa is one of Bphee's greatest support in the series.

Another I really liked is, Mothai is much smarter in the version. He didn't blindly believe in Viyada and her lies until the very end. He recognized that Vyada wasn't as sweet and kind as he thought and was smart enough to question her. Also, he was touchy with Bpee but it was never as aggressive as the 2008 version. The 2008 version sometimes got too aggressive in that department.
