Looks dated now, but worth watching!

This show is definitely worth watching, if not for the great cast alone. I initially watched this show because of its extremely high ratings, but I dropped it after about two episodes and couldn't understand why my perception of the show was so different from the rating. After about a year, I decided to give it another go. Some of the things that bothered me originally still bothered me, but I warmed up to the show overall. Then it hit me, and here is my fair warning to anyone watching this for the first time: it's the Netflix/Disney budget effect! This show came out around 2016, before the huge rise of K-Drama on those platforms and the giant budgets that are now common, and it shows. While newer high-budget shows often look like 16-part movies, this has the look and feel of a TV show. Particularly, the military/war scenes are so cheap-looking compared to more modern-day stuff that it's ridiculous. However, once you ignore that part and remind yourself of the 2016 TV show aspect, you will really like the show. It has a very strong cast (Vincenzo, The Glory, Mr. Sunshine, etc.) and a very good story. It has drama, action, romance—you name it. Yes, it looks dated, but it's still a strong 8/10 on my scale.

Yes I loved this drama. Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-Kyo and a wonderful pair. And, you would love the second lead pair also. I didn't find anything to hate in this one. If you love romance in military style it will suit your taste, It definitely did make me happy.

I don’t know why I waited so long to watch this because I watched so many previews and read so many reviews and heard precious things about this gem of a show and it’s a true gem. I absolutely adored this show and the chemistry between every person. The intensity, the love and the family. I loved that it represented teams so that you know what hard work and success is. Everything was fabulous and the story just kept you hooked and I LOVE RED VELVET SO MUCH THAT WAS AMAZBALLS LOL! This show is just plain wonderful. From the insecurity and on and off and battles between the fighting and pushing through and being one with another. With pushing things to the boundaries of everything and everyone. This show was a wonderful wonderful choice. So worth it.

is this worth the hype?

as the headline said "is this worth the hype?" i must say YES. i watched Descendant of The Sun (lets shorten it to DOTS), from hearing from so many people that have been talked about this non-stop, including my friends, so i had to give it a try. i must say that this is my second time watching people with guns after City Hunter but this time its more intense since this story took a background where the main role, Song Joong Ki, as Captain Yoo Shi Jin, and Song Hye Kyo, as Doctor Kang Mo Yeon.

to be honest, i already watched this drama a few times because i just love this drama so much, especially the chemistry between Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo (we're not gonna talk about their love life here :p) and also the thrilling parts where some gangsters came and make a scene, and not to mention how funny it is between Captain Yoo Shi Jin and Doctor Kang Mo Yeon because they had bickers quite a lot because this Captain Yoo Shi Jin just loves teasing Doctor Kang Mo Yeon.

how about the romance? as i said before, their chemistry were no joke. they looked really great together, maybe one of them or both of them are comfortable with each other so it wasn't so hard to get the chemistry as a couple. is it cringe? well, in my opinion, its not at all, but people have different opinion.

maybe i'll watch this again when i miss seeing Yoo Shi Jin and Kang Mo Yeon again or just miss the drama because afterall this drama gave me so much impressions.

I really wanted to like this drama but…

I really wanted to like drama since there’s so much hype around this drama. This is no hate to the actors or directors etc. But this drama wasn’t for me. I just got bored watching this drama. Honestly, it was just boring to me. I wont lie, the starting of drama was good but it just went downhill. I was confused. Thats why i dropped this drama. The cast was great. Personally, im a fan of song joongi ki so, i was excited to watch this drama but it just wasn’t for me. I guess they are some things that isn’t for everyone.

this is not a war story

when I saw the previews and the posters of this show I thought it was about love on a battlefield (private ryan like). I hate violence, so I refused to watch it. until someone recommended it for the romantic part.

the truth is, this drama is about love and nothing else. the only hell you will encounter here, is the hell of cheese. of course there is military stuffs, fight scenes (beautiful ones if you ask me), friendship and violence (I skipped some scenes (because me, right?) but it is bearable), and all the war non-sens we know, but in the far background actually. all the spots are on human relationships and love stories. that's definitely a heartwarming drama. if you like love stories, you MUST watch this one.

the analysis part: the music is beautiful and goes very well with the story. the actors made a wonderful job! especially song joon ki (MML). I fall in love with his character, which means the show nailed it. the script is very sharp and nicely done for the love and relationship part of the show (that makes sens, right?) but the background story was messed up. really, there is no script, no overall story, the characters just fall into weird or dangerous situations one after an other, as if the writer played with dices. this feels very annoying around episode 10, so you'll need to let go.

when to watch? when your mood needs some uplift or if you share some time with your lover. it is even better for a re-watch because you can focus on your favorites love scenes without the stress of not knowing what is going to happen next.

Tasteful and Captivating

A great drama with amazing chemistry between the actors - main couple as well as second couple. Their relationships were really nice to watch and how they handled the very emotional and intense plot was amazing. I could really feel the emotions and I wanted to see more and more.
The only down-part is that especially towards the late middle part and ending, they've dragged the plot a lot which was not necessary. I think it also could've worked out with 14 episodes. Some small plot holes were also there but I can overlook them because of the great characters the show provided. The comedy scenes were really tasteful and felt real. Overall, a great drama!

i'm writing this review after rewatching the drama (since i forgot everything), and i was reminded all the reasons why this is one of my top kdramas. the best thing about the drama is the storyline. it was never draggy and pace was amazing, action packed, very cute romance both lead and 2nd lead, and my favourite part, their career. i love how they show the career of doctors and soldiers, making me want to be one of them and kinda feel thankful? to these people in real life. the romance is super cute for me, their chemistry is top notch, could be little bit cheesy sometimes but i enjoyed it. the 2nd lead couple, of course, loveeee them lottts!! rather than looking forward plot development, i was just looking forward for the next episode since i want to watch them and want to know what kind of event could happen next. the only con would be i kinda lose interest in the last episode, but it wasn't a big deal since it was only episode. of course, amazing cinematography and osts!!

A Soldier And A Doctor Never Off Duty

Descendants of the Sun Kdrama is one of the best dramas about the life of a Doctor and A Soldier. How a Soldier is always ready to sacrifice his life for his country and a Doctor saves the lives of everyone without thinking about his own life. I like this drama because after separating from each other, how destiny met him again and how they fell in love with each other after so many obstacles. Their profession comes in between their love. Can their love become successful with working in different professions...

Quick review

Descendants of the Sun was a good series. I liked it but not excessively.

The production was good to very good. The editing was ok to good. The action scenes were very good to excellent. In my opinion the song didnt fit the scene on more than one occasion particularly with the main leads' scenes. The music was ok otherwise. The acting was very good to excellent.

The story was interesting enough and I wasn't bored. I didn't really like the lead characters' relationship throughout most of the series. Was their relationship an anti-romance? Like an anti-hero. That goes for the second leads as well.

Overall it's not a bad series to watch. It definitely has some entertaining scenes and good moments. I doubt I will personally rewatch this series but could understand if other people would want to rewatch it.

True hardships of a soldier

This is a really really very good drama which will show you the true hardships faced by a soldier. It beautifully shows wether there could be a romance between a soldier, Yoo Shi Jin (Song Joong Ki) who can kill anyone to save his motherland and a doctor, Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo) who can die to save anyone no matter what caste, religion or nationality.
There are not very much steam kissings and not very less romance.
Therefore, I would say that you should once watch this drama. I hope you'll like it...

•• HAPPY WATCHING!!! ••

This drama was so great.
First of all-OST;
It was such a good collection of songs. Till this day I still listen to most of them especially *everything by gummy, and everytime by punch, Chen*
The acting-
It was great! The main actress did a great job, she wasn't over reacting nor under reacting! It was perfect and the characters emotions where portrayed greatly. The main actor did a good job as well, having a smug and cocky attitude but still humble is difficult and he did great! Other actors did great as well, especially Onew, as he had to portray very hitting emotions and he did so good.
The plot-
I won't dive into the summery, but it was well written. It showed that romance isn't long lasting, but can be rekindled! If she stayed with him even when he never told her why he had to leave in the midst of their date, I would've slapped writers. Altho the ending wasn't that much, since it's like *where does this ever happen*, it still gave me butterflies. Props to writers for doing something with the side romance, and giving it thought. I found myself more invested into side romance than main, but that could be just me.
