Rain in a chinese drama, of cos its dubbed, what do you expect :)
Story:
the plot was ok. Interesting to see Tiffany being 'ugly'' ...LOL
there are quite a few funny characters that you will enjoy especially the 2nd couple or the 2nd male lead (he is so funny)
however, up to the ep 43 and above, its a little draggy with the theme : to lie or not to lie, tell the truth or not kind of thinggy....its draggy, trust me.
Cast:
The Cast was good... although some situations was exaggerated, the acting and some scene were too over. especially just a fall and this person turn into coma - something like that. you will see a very different Tang Yan here especially when she done so many same scenario drama previously.
Lei Yi Ming and Gao Wen is very funny here and they scene was really worth to watch. (if you watch u will really know what i meant about the exaggerated scene and Lai YI Ming....)
Its very difficult for a korean actor to act in a chinese drama but here, Rain really protray good acting and his expressions are really good as well. room to improve of cos but worthy for a praise here.
The romance was of good balance and level here, many sub sub stories and couples.

The story itself had some hope - an overweight girl who becomes skinny and pretty, thus enabling her success sounds like a cliché plot, but cliché plots are always good in that they're safe to work with, easy to understand, and enjoyable for many audiences. However, maybe it was because the producers for this drama were trying too hard to make this a "cliché plot with a TWIST" that actually caused this drama to end up in a downward spiral after the first episode.
To begin, the leading female, Mi Duo, is probably the most self-centered, selfish (oh wait, I said that already), and annoying female character I've ever come across in a drama. The minute she steps out of surgery and becomes a pretty, skinny girl, she begins to have legitimate hopes for winning Xiao Liang's heart, which she could only dream of when she was overweight - i.e even when she was a fatty, she believed looks were the most important and irreplaceable thing to win at romance in life. She has so much confidence (or I would say arrogance) in herself that when Xiao Liang and Gao Wen announce their relationship on TV, she falls into a depressed state, thinking that if it were not for Gao Wen, she could be with him, and throws a fit in denial at her best friend who says that "Xiao Liang is from a different world" than hers. Also, the number of times she treats her best friend like a personal slave is just ridiculous. As a woman in her twenties, she seems to not even know how to take care of herself or handle even the slightest small problems in her own life; the minute she feels remotely uncomfortable about a situation (usually involving her toxic and melodramatic af relationship with the main guy), she's on her phone at the speed of light to call her life support (Lei Yi Ming), who is actually in love with her might I add, so really it's even worse as she's using his feelings for her. What really made me incredulous at her behaviour was when Gao Wen and Yi Ming - her two bestest friends who were always there for her - finally got together, she couldn't even be happy for them! Instead, she acted like a sad spoilt brat who had grown accustomed to being the centre of attention in Yi Ming's world, and didn't like the thought of him actually dating someone and finding his own happiness. Like, are you serious?
Anyway, the poor female lead just about ruined the entire drama for me, and the fact that the lead male was Rain didn't make it better. Of course, Rain's looks are obviously great, but he is Korean, and when the movement of his lips when he's talking don't match the sounds of the words, it's really hard to enjoy his scenes, or like his character.
Now, here's one good thing about the drama: the two "supporting" main leads: Gao Wen (Dilireba) and lei Yi Ming - in particular Dilireba's role. She played the perfect, sassy but kind and fiercely loyal celebrity star Gao Wen, who honestly became the star of the show. In fact, in the last half of the series I found myself sick of the rest of the plot and just skipped directly to the parts with her in them. Her character, polar to how I view the main female character, is probably one of my favourites in all Chinese modern drama. She was refreshing and hilarious (and also very glamorous and beautiful) and if it wasn't for her, I would never have finished the drama.
Overall, I give this a 6/10, which is only so high despite all my complaints because Dilireba pulled me through to the end, and Gao Wen/lei Yi Ming scenes were cute af.

Don't make the mistake of watching the 24 episode edit, seek the 68 original version
Xiao Liang is without doubt the most annoying and least endearing lead character I've known in a Chinese series. Snobby, arrogant and rude. Far more warmth in his father's character, even his evil brother seemed more endearing in parts. I highly doubt this was the intended projection of his character. It could be down to the 24 episode edit I started initially on Netflix; probably also down to the dubbing which makes seeing any chemistry at all between him and Mi Duo near impossible when lips and words are not in agreement. At best the chemistry was difficult to see and looked so very forced, at worst it's the worst piece of casting ever.Did I meniton the editing? In the cut version it's all over the place. What the hell was with Gao Wen's return and the go karting in the final episodes about? In the original it's nearer the start when the leads were double-dating which made much more sense. In the end it was was almost a cameo which made absolutely no sense and if anything, undone some of the credit and charm Gao Wen's character had garnered from earlier episodes.
I'm so glad i found the original 68 episode version. I checked in on a few episodes including the ending of course, but highly doubt i'd go back through and watch it all. I would most definitely recommend seeking out the original 68 episode version however. Even from the minimal amount I've seen, it confirms the edited version to be the absolute car crash that it is.

The second male lead was a superb actor -- very believable, fully realized, acted like an adult with brains and character the whole series. I did not care for the main lead male - there was more fist thumping and shouting than acting. Female lead overwhelmingly "Perils of Pauline" , bouncing between happy then desolated like a rabbit on hot pavement. I also thought her acting was mediocre - she's cute, no doubt, but brought no depth to her character. I think the hairdresser needs to be sent to actual hairdresser college for the second female - who looked like a drowned rat for 90% of her time on screen, and rhe acting seemed forced, but not grimly so. I hope the problem was more with the script and directing because it seemed like the actors were reined into stereotypes, excluding 2nd male. It was nice, however, to see a female character written to show actual marketable talent.
Near miss on the Bechdel test -- too much twaddle about men and feelings about men between women. Some scenes were better when work was discussed or if evil was being plotted.

White Chicks, Legally Blonde, Mean Girls all wrapped up to make a CDrama Version
Personal Preference:From Princess Weiyoung to Agent X, I've been a huge fan of both Tiffany and Luo Jin. Dilraba Dilmurata was not very high on my scale of actor/actress because every project that I've come across of her was annoying me to hell (except for Flames Daughter). Rain is a new face to my scope of CDrama (although in the Kdrama arena his on a different level) fave's so his kind of irrelevant right now.
Diamond Lover:
After seeing Tiffany and Dilraba performance in this show, I'm completely convinced that Dilraba is no longer on on that low scale as an actress because Tiffany just dropped to the bottom of the barrel. At least I was able to tolerate Dilraba in her Pretty LiHuizen annoyance to go back and watch the drama 4 more times and be able to watch Flames Daughter almost every other day. But I'm so done with Tiffany here in this CDrama, Best performance given in this drama was by Luo Jin with the characterization that he brought to the table.
Other focus of this drama that were very interesting and brought life to it were sub plots of villans (ex-girl friend, brother, coworker, ex-boss). These sub arc stories made the drama bearable to endure the stupidity being feed to the screen of gullible love. I know that the directors and writers meant for the characters to be as such but it just ruined my view of these actors/actresses and subsequently allowed me to see actors/actresses that I disliked in a new light....
NOTE: Giving this CDRAMA an ok rating because I really like Luo Jin and Dilraba's performances here.....Would've tanked it to 0 if they were crappy along with the main leads. Giving a 10 for all the arc sub plot storylines or supporting casts.
