the mother's character is the same in both series : childish, curious and annoying at times.

The special takes place three years after the end of the original series.

Despite having different settings, both dramas have similarities regarding Japanese youth in the early 2000s and delinquency. They also share the same director (Kankuro Kudo), and a major part of the cast.

both drama feature a man whose having charisma on the small area of the city and having street gang as one of the main topic. IWGP is episodic and more a mystery drama, while Holyland is a short drama and focusing on fighting.

The same kind of vibe, with gangs, territorial fights, and a bit of dark comedy. Also, there is an unsolved crime in both dramas, and the main characters help with the investigations. The main character of both shows have to deal with coming of age matters.

The Original Novels both of these stories are based on were written by Ira Ishida. There are a lot of similarities in terms of atmosphere and setting, by the method of which the districts of Ikebukuro and Akihabara are given unique personalities. Both of these stories are urban mysteries where the protagonists investigate various crimes occurring within the city.

The main character and the episode type are similar. The main difference is that GTO is set in a school and IWGP is set in the street.

7.7 Go (2001)
Both have Kubozuka Yosuke
Both have this kinda Japanese 90s filming atmosphere
They sometimes give the same feeling, although IwGp is a drama and Go a movie

Ichi the Killer is a much more intense and doesn't come with the comforting "good guys" redeeming element that Ikebukuru West Gate Park does. However they're both very eccentric stories that feature gang violence and revolve around trying to understand who and why someone was murdered with plot twists related to mental health. They also both feature manipulative antagonists and homoerotic tension. Be warned: Ichi the Killer is fucked up.
