A simple and cute story, if you are looking for a complex story this is not the right movie, but if you are tired of a huge drama and tragedy this is the right movie to see if you want a light story.
Just as the simple story, the acting is not anything mind blowing, but the actors really fit well is the romance and funny situations. Also Yang Mi and Li Yi Feng appeared together in Swords of Legends and it´s great to see them together again.
I also never get tired of the Li Yi Feng song Please contact me

Happy Valentine's Day MDL! Here is my gift to you all!

Story
Valentine's Day and its lovey-dovey atmosphere really suits this movie to a T. The story was meant to be a cliché from the beginning with its separated and reunited lovers trope. As the story is nothing special, the script writers did what they could to spice things up. I do like how they made it closer to real life by not including a real villain girl or guy, letting time be the only obstructive construct.

Acting/Cast
This is hands-down a great cast. The passion conveyed through the main couple is amazing. I have no complaints about the main characters are seasoned actors who both did a great job. There were some side characters that had potential for development, namely the production manager as the first one who knew the couple's secret and the girl's rival agent. The agent may have been slated as a villain but later removed to the half-baked persona she was in the movie. She could have potentially been more if it wasn't a movie.

Music
Music was a solid pillar in this movie, deserving of its solid 7. I believe the music was great, not the crap pop like I expected, but rather soothing and ballad-like. This is a brand of Jay Chou who revolutionized the Chinese pop industry into being less pop. Although Li Yifeng was a successful star in the movie, he did not sing. He would have been talent less if not for his mad piano skills, which contribute to the not quite pop atmosphere.
Speaking of not pop genres, the blues and jazz make an appearance here. Talk about multicultural!

Rewatch Value
I think I've seen too much Li Yifeng this season. This movie is definitely a chick flick and I probably will not be watching this again until the next Valentine's Day.

Background/Setting (extra)
What the production did with the setting was amazing. They showcased the better parts of Shanghai with snippets throughout the movie. It was a shame that they did not film on the hot air balloon, but rather opting for distance shots.

Simple story about two people who fell in love, but due to long distance as well as one person believing they are holding that other person back from performing at their fullest potential, they decide to break it off. Then, after years of being apart, they run into one another, and even though they both have feelings for one another still, they give one another a hard time. But after spending time with one another, they realize that they want to be with one another.

The chemistry was amazing and didn't realize that they had been in a drama the year prior and even referenced it at the end credits. A+

Because it was an average story with a very predictable ending, I thought this should get an average rating. Nothing new was presented. Definitely worth the watch, don't get me wrong. It is a perfect cure if you don't know what to watch and want to watch a quick drama with a basic story-line.

My kind of love story

Indeed...it's my kind of story. Love Yang Mi and Li YiFeng in this simple and sweet love story between Su Xing Yu and Tian Xin. They both fallen in love in the beginning of their career - a humble 'instrument tuner for a rock band with the band's assistant'. They got separate because Su Xing Yu went to England for further education while Tian Xin pursued further her dream job as an artist manager, Tian Xin broke up with Su XingYu over the long distance phone call because she thought she hold him back. 5 years later, they met again when Tian Xian applied a new post as artist manager where already famous XingYu's office representative, so happened he had dispute with his manager Mei and choose Tian Xian (who new on the job) to be his manager instead to proved Mei that Tian Xin would do a better job in managing his most interest in music.

They rekindle their feeling after plane turbulence and got pictured by a paparazzi. Mei, the ex manager, bought the pictures from the paparazzi to save them from scandal with the conditional that Tian Xin quit from the job. Tian Xin agreed and left the job, home, town....left the man she loved for the sake of XingYu's reputation. XingYu once again heart broken and devastated with their second separation (broke up). In the award, he gave a very touching speech in how much he miss his love and ask her to meet him in their 'long ago promise' designated spot. They met and live happily ever after.

What critics don't know...this kind of love story is very enjoyable as we hope to have our own happy ending with the person we love. As critic said this was'plot a "mediocre pic" that was reduced to an unrealistic romantic dross' we don't want to other complicated serious drooling bore of a love story. So, I love it.

So this drama as a very basic story and if you are fan of one of the leads you should watch. The film is very plain, but have nice edition and the light and acting was real great.
The couple of actors portrait very well the love relationship as, they dreams.
I must say the being is a little bit slow but after sometime it is good

If you don't expect too much from this movie, you will spend a nice time with funny moments and good acting. You will just get entertainment with no philosophical issues nor society analysis or whatever !
This is an idols film reuniting 4 actors of the notorious chinese drama Swords of Legends ! Those who watched this drama definitely watched this film because they were eager to see Li Yi Feng and Yang Mi together again. Even if the storyline is not quite accurate and the love story unrealistic, this movie is quite pleasant to watch and Yang Mi's tears are not even breaking your heart !
It's in here that Li Yi Feng dress up as a girl with heavy makeup and a long black hair wig... it's quite hilarious ! Is he sexy as a girl ? Make you own opinion watching this movie.

An under-rated movie for all lovers to watch together!

I agree with Cambear about this being a great movie!

I saw this online several years ago but couldn't remember its name when I joined MDL; a movie recap by an Asian girl helped me find the movie's name again. Thank you, miss!

I do love movies like Wedding Dress (2010), More Than Blue ( 2009), Bw With Me (2010), The Gangster's Daughter (2017), or the worst of all, Come To Me Like A Star (2013)...but they tell the story of what usually happens in situation between lovers...especially if selfishness is present on one or both of them.

Occasionally, we want a happy endiing, such as Timeless Romance (2019), Jenny & Juno (2005) or Marbling (2004)! Now we can add Fall In Love Like A Star (2015) to the list of times when romance works out the way it should!

Su Xing Yu (Li Yi Feng) and Tian Xin (Yang Mi) are both working for the same band and one loses their job defending the other against a chauvinist band member, messing with the girl..

They split and end up in a long-distance relationship over the phone. The KEY to this movie, and to most good relationships, is S-A-C-R-I-F-I-C-E of one part of a couple to help the other out.

This sets off the love/hate/love hate see-saw that this movie projects; the key is that BOTH sacrifice to make the other look good or to protect the other one somehow throughout the movie.

In " A lonely Cow Weeps at Dawn (2003)" the eldlerly farmer, jolted out of his dementia by his returning daughter, sells his farm so that his daughter-in-law will seek out another man with which to be the rest of her life. Before the return of his daughter and sanity, the elderly man and his dead son's wife comfort each other daily trying to survive the rural Chinese farm on which they both reside.

In "Sex is Zero (2002) the male lead sacrifices his time helping the woman he loves, who started out loving someone else, go through the pain of an abortion and saves her life later as she starts bleeding profusely from overexerting herself after that abortion. She realizes that he was the better choice for a mate.

In Timeless Romance (2019), a girl realizes the different needs of her personas and makes a choice between different boyfriends to suit her different personas; and many loved her choice in that movie!

I mighit add that Mei Jie (played by veteran actress Chen Shu) was the perfect jilted former agent of Su Xing Yu, and did a superb job of being the villianess in this movie; the other support cast members worked very well together helping make the main couple look good and supporting the storyline - kudos to them all!

I love that fact that this movie portrayed how 'sacrifice' in a relationship sometimes is necessary and how the 'self' must die in order for most relationships to survive and work. Tian Xin's 'sacrifice' or what is known by good parents as "tough love" sometimes is needed for the other partner to survive, thrive and obtain their dreams in life...a lesson many parents know how to use and many selfish partners today should learn...

Quit trying over-analyze this movie and just enjoy a good movie with a happy ending...for BOTH main stars!

The cinematography was excellent and the music (which I paid more attention this time) was superb. I didn't get the joke about the cosplay costunes at the end until i found out that they both starred in a costumed historical series together; it made the ending scenes much funnier this time around!

My main criticism is that I would have shot some scenes from the balloon and pacaed them strategically within the movie.

I also loved the fast-paced action in the movie, which was necessary to tell the story of the movie that happened over several years apart for the couple.

RE-WATCH VALUE: Yes, when couples want to see how sacrifice saves marriages and relationships!

typical celebrity-commoner love story

What happens when you fall in love with a Star(Celebrity), you come under the surveillance of the media and your quiet life might become chaotic. Either you continue the relationship hiding or break up to let the celebrity have his name and fame untainted.
Writers are so obsessed with sacrificing the love concept, I am leaving you for your own good and then suffer alone in the name of love. Pushing away the person you love is a really irritating premise.

Almost every star story has this typical storyline. you get to see typical banters and indifference of personality. The movie had a predictable ending and the leads have mediocre chemistry. For me, it was a waste of time.

ML, Yi Feng had good and effective acting. FL, Yang Mi was blank for me. She just didn’t have any facial expressions. If it's sad it ought to show on her face, eyes anywhere I just couldn’t find expressions on her. No offense to her fans please but sorry I didn’t like her.
Dilraba Dilmurat was the reason I watched the movie, but she had very less screen time. And being a newbie she was average.

Super Cute

I was in the mood for something, light, fun and romantic. Fall in Love Like a Star delivered. It a sweet story about 2 childhood friends. One wants to be a musician and the other an agent. They love each other but Tian Xin knows that a relationship with Su Xing Yu will hinder his career so she breaks up with him. They meet again 5 years later and she becomes his agent and the sparks are still there but a paparazzi takes intimate pictures of them and once again she believes that the relationship will halt his now promising music career and she breaks up with him again. Eventually they get back together and live happily ever after. Super cute.

I LMAO when Tian Xin blew on a horn and then she saw a picture of where the horn had been. Too damn funny. I also LOL when they were on an airplane and Tian Xin's assistant was freaking out about the plane going down. The movie is nothing to write home about but sweet and enjoyable.

The most shallow, depthless romance I have ever seen. No chemistry between our MLS and no buildup to their relationship makes this movie impossible to swallow. Yang Mi, as always, is a joy to watch but even a great actress cannot save a poorly written script.

Our MLS are supposed to be in love and yet they are always finding ways to hurt one another under the guise of sacrifice. But I don’t buy it because none of it rang sincere. This was a shallow piece of fluff which wasted a the great talent of our leading lady.

Childhood sweethearts, second chances these are favorite tropes which this uses well for a cute rom com.

Although it’s contempary, it’s a bit of a fantasy about life as a superstar and the luxury life. Not totally realistic, but this is a rom com and not a documentary. Just focus on the love-hate-love romance which is well executed by capable actors. Additionally, there’s a young Dilraba who demonstrates she started her schtick early and has refined it in recent years.

So this is a sweet rom com that’s fluffy and fun.
