Give it a try and simply watch it unfold.
Actually there are a lot of reviews that say that they couldn't connect to the main character as little is known and shown about him throughout the movie. Moreover, there is also the complaint of how there was no plot, no big plot twist/ big reveal and therefore no anticipation or guessing involved in the trials. It moved along predictably, according to many. It seems that the main character lived a bland life without taking too many risks and in every trial he was left off as it would be proven that he had actually done a good deed, not a bad one as it seemed. It's practically impossible for anyone to live so virtuously, but then again that is why he is referred to as a pure spirit that comes along only very rarely. However, it is still worth it to watch the movie if you don't keep thinking and expecting the mystery and action, but instead simply watch the story unfold. The characters did not feel real to me until the end, but the story was really beautiful and connected well. It evoked plenty of emotions in me at the end, and watching the movie till the end felt worth it (though watching even the bland parts wasn't a chore, it flowed peacefully). The movie reminds you to live a simple life taking care of your loved ones. Was this review helpful to you?
'김영화'는 아니고 '김용화'란 다행이군. 영화는 너무 섭섭하겠다.
I haven't seen a director with such terrible sense of space as Kim Yong Hwa in a while. On the shelf of nauseous editing, ridiculous costumes and CGI, weak world building, non-existent emotional bond with characters, another one is Choi Dong Hoon with his Alienoid. If you show me a dude who saves someone's life and then dies and acts dumb all along just because he's "saint", I will wish for him to die again. All the trials are so dumb, the Kings don't even follow their own rules skipping the defending part. And each time the trial ends with discovering a piece of information that makes an excuse for the main character's actions. Even if it's a murder attempt. Ridiculous.

This movie is soo good.
This is not a pro-review but hey it's an honest one ;).If you're tired of watching boring movies try this one, it's so good. it capture you attention from the beginning until the credit start rolling. This movie had me laughing then crying in the same scene lol. It was predictable but also quite unpredictable which is why you won't take your eyes away from the screen until the movie finishes, then you'll hop unto the second one and trust it's amazing as the first one.
I enjoy watching this movie and I know you would to, so get to watching.

I truly think the movie was well done! There is comedy, action, and plenty of moments where you might shed a few tears. There’s also AMAZING CGI and great acting. Overall, Along With The Gods is well balanced and that makes for a great movie experience.
I’ll be honest... The description seemed interesting so I decided to watch it without reading any reviews. From the description, I didn’t think I would cry. I was WRONG! I 100% got emotional but that’s okay because I was very pleased with how to movie turned out and ended.
I’m actually excited to watch the second movie now! I’ll watch and review that tomorrow!
If the description seemed interesting to you, I highly recommend you watch! This is one of the few movies I’d watch again.

The movie will makes you think about the decision you made in life, be it in the past, present or future. It will make you think and recall what you have done and choose and the result of that decision will it be right/wrong and was it the right decision.
Standing aside, the movie is kinda flat and most of the movie time will not keep you on the edge of your seat.
Overall, the movie is worth watching for the 1st time and that’s it. But I think some of you will not like it due to not watching at the cinema because I think that the sound and the device that will be playing the movie plays a big part.

One scene that resounded with me was the simple scene where the grandfather sees the Grim Reaper and says to himself that he might be closing near death. When the grandkid cried there something tugged at my heartstrings. How a life can be so precious. It might seems silly but that scene was the start where I started getting emotional with the whole story.
One plus side of this story is we see sooooooo many amazing cameos. Each trial brings out so many old faces we just love seeing on screen, that was a reason that made me keep watching till the end. To see who else is gonna pop in my screen. I won't say it was a bad film, no doubt it was a really really good film but I won't say brilliant. Watching this few minutes after Tori Girl, I felt even though Tori Girl was much less mature than this, it was done more brilliantly than Along with the Gods. But that won't stop me from watching the sequel of this.
Also if you are in doubt, just watch it for the sake of Ju Ji Hoon. The fellow is amazingly hilarious in this. You won't regret it. I only gave these ratings just for his expressions.

The storyline is interesting. There is something that King Yeomra said at the end which struck me a lot and totally agree with him (you gotta watch it in order to find out). During last trial, it really got me to tears. I expect some of Cha Tae Hyun's scenes were funny but not much. It felt more of a sympathy towards him. Even his character is quite different than any of his previous characters that he played before in other movies or drama.
I look forward to the second installment of the movie.

Good CGI
I enjoyed this movie more than I thought and an impressive CGI definitely helps. I was worried the God theme would be ruined by bad CGI but thankfully that didn't happen here. It had enough comedy to perfectly balance the intensity and everything else out with music to go well through the action and heart whelming points. I would watch it again if I wanted something simple with a good storyline and nothing too extreme. The plot was pretty well put together and the acting gets a thumbs up. On my way to the sequel...Was this review helpful to you?
Trigger Warnings: attempted suicide, beatings, army/military
Story
So I didn't know anything about the storyline before I got into this, and it starts off pretty hectic. It starts off with a large bang, and it doesn't stop too much. Although some of it is pretty guessable and obvious as the story goes forward, it was still thrilling. It caught my attention, I couldn't turn away from the screen, and I was lost to it. My only qualm is that I feel like it moved a little too fast for my liking, almost as if they were rushing through the editing process to get it released and get all the main information out into the film, but either way, it was solid and enjoyable.
Acting/Casting
I feel like all the casting was well done. I don't know much about Korean actors nor who they really are, but I felt like each character matched their personality look wise. Each actor and actress really did an amazing job and it was hard for me to remember this was pure fantasy. This is a fantasy film and the acting was so well done, I forgot that this doesn't happen. At least not in the world we really know. The standout role for me was Joo Ji Hoon as Haw Won Maek. There was something about him that really caught my attention; he came across as his personality, his character really looked the part, and I found my eyes drawn to him more than anyone else on screen at the same time as him. Also, Kim Soo An as the God of Deceit. A child that can take on such a menacing role with little mercy shows a lot of acting skill and I'm intrigued to see her in other movies and roles.
I said I only watched this for Do Kyung Soo and the truth is, it was a little hard for me to see him as Private Won. Maybe that's because I'm so used to him being the usual goofy D.O I know from live stages and interviews, but the fact he could take on such a role and make it believable was truly incredible. I forgot who he was a few times, just from how he created the character on screen, and I think it was truly a moment for me to realise just how much of an amazing actor he is.
Music
The music throughout the film really worked well with it. It was hard to remember it was just a backing soundtrack as it went on, and the music really blended in with what was happening on screen. The sound editing and music choices overall worked really really well with the film, and it made it much better, in my opinion.
Rewatch Value
As much as I enjoyed this, I don't think I would watch it again. I've seen it once now, and the thrill was there, it was enjoyable, but I think this is more of a one view wonder. When the second film comes out, I might rewatch this then, just to refresh my memory of the plot line, but I wouldn't sit and watch it through again out of enjoyment.
Overall, this was a really good movie, well made, well acted and with an extremely talented cast, and with a stellar soundtrack, but it's more a film you watch once and then only once more in the future before the next film. It was good, but I really don't see myself enjoying it all the way through in the future.

This film never fails to make me cry and laugh. It's soooo amazing
Wholesome film that will make you cry in the first 10 minutes you're watching it. It's unreal but it feels very realistic. I can't tell enough reasons to say that this movie is perfect. It's just a full package. At the time of writing this review, it has been my second time watching it and I'm really impressed that it amazed me as much as I am amazed the first time I watched it. The plot is just so creative added with the impressive computer graphics. There's nothing better than this really.
The casts really played their characters really well. Cha TaeHyun has been a good actor ever since and then matched up with the cute and fierce grim reapers/afterlife lawyers. I can't think of anything better.
So what I'm really saying is please do watch this. I'm sure you'll love it too. If you want to cry and laugh like crazy, this is the best movie to binge-watch.

Along with the gods got me to think of my own life. I was almost convinced that I might go for 7 trials when I die and be resurrected. But since this movie serves as a doorway for realization about human’s sin and punishment afterlife, it is hard for me not to contemplate about what I have done on this earth and all the decisions I have made and will make.
Back to the movie, this film packed with supernatural action and heart-wrenching stories at all the right moment with a fair balance of dark reality and comic break. It will take you to a roller coaster of emotion carried by the good performances of the main actors along with the strong plot conviction.
Character-wise is simply relatable with the essence of virtues rooted within. The stunts and the scenes were executed perfectly. The CGI is not that good compares to Hollywood but still, the visuals are quite decent and appealing plus the action sequences are fast-paced and never boring.
This movie may sound perfect, but it is for me. I totally enjoyed it. I have anticipated also the next sequel which they will show the past lives of our three grim reapers, I think I am more excited for it.
Obviously, got to rate this 10/10. I acknowledge the purpose of this film is to teach us lessons although it is somehow obvious in every day – that we should lead a life with a forgiving and righteous heart amidst of all the struggles and challenges.
