I for one could not get myself to like this drama no matter how many times I watched it. It is honestly an abusive relationship, all that the Master sees of Nian is a toy that he got at the orphanage and a toy that deserves to love him and satisfy all his pleasures to show gratitude.
Even though the master shows some compassion in some ways, he is short tempered and throughout the movie, he is basically abusing Nian having mutual feelings like him.
I would recommend it for some people, but it's not my cup of tea as the whole movie at times made feel uncomfortable or sympathetic towards Nian.

STORY: I actually thought part 2 was a bit softer with the the master/slave dynamic. There still is a heck of a lot of possessiveness and jealousy in this. The company and family also play a big part in trying to separate Xie Yan and Shu Nian. This was more about Shu Nian fighting against all odds to keep Xie Yan. I really liked the continuation of the touching story from the first movie that happens between Xie Yan and Ke Luo, both orphans who were adopted by wealthy families. I rooted for their camaraderie. Sorry to say, the ending is soul crushing. You will cry. But there is great news! There is an alternate ending that is happy! Even if you hate sad endings, watch it first, then watch the happy ending.
ACTING/CAST: Very good, all played their parts naturally.
MUSIC: Typical for a drama, the Chinese vocals were not English subbed.
REWATCH VALUE: Yes, i'll watch it once more with a friend.
OVERALL: Besides the heartbreaks and tough times throughout the movie, it was worth experiencing this. The high production value, sharp cast and dialogue, made it worth the trip.
TL;DR: Shu Nian comes to realize Xie Yan is a person that he loves and has to defy all odds to keep him.

Version One has a lot of scenes cut out so it's really hard to understand the story it's like the BL Movie "Like Love" with season's 1 & 2 where there is an theatrical movie version which is an cut version made to fit moviegoers then theirs a uncut version with scenes added or that had ones already filmed for the movie which is why I've rated it a 6.0 but I'm sure someone will upload the uncut version someday.
The Re-watch Value on this FOR ME is honestly a 5.0 ONLY because it's the cut version and not much really makes sense and knowing theirs a version 2 that might beat the ratings I've given it.
The casting in this movie was fantastic and did a job well done and they've deserved a 10/10 on this, and with the music I don't really recall any til the end of the movie which didn't help me much but it did fit well which is why I've given it a 7.0.
Overall I give it a 8.0 because it met my expectations with a master and servant and what one does when they finally realize their true feelings for someone but can't be with them.

Best BL ever. Period.
Admittedly, there are a few flaws in the editing: they never turn off the lights, never close the front doors and especially the English subtitles are more than approximate! But this is very secondary. Here, what counts is this love story that nothing makes him waver: when Xie Yan realizes that he is in love with Shu Nian, nothing makes him give up, not even destiny, his parents or malevolent people. Not even death! The film is infinitely sad (the alternative ending brings 2 minutes of joy at the end and therefore a happing ending, it's better than nothing) but it is carried by impeccable acting, everyone being at the heart of his character.
A few years later, I read the novel and I was disgusted! The characters are much worse: Xie Yan is monstrous, Ke Luo who is a nice little guy in the movie is in the book a rapist and Shun Nian is so weak! He has no personality, so much so that everyone wants to shake him up by shouting "Do something! React!". In addition the author does everything she can to show homosexuality in a negative light: rape, shame, guilt... Shame on the author ! And the eternal love advocated in the film does not last very long in the novel. Yet that's what makes this incredible story so charming! What I mean is that they managed to make such a masterpiece based on such an abominable novel makes the movie even more beautiful !
A must see.

I would almost classify this as more tragedy and love-lorn than romance. It's about a battle in society and inner self and desires, versus trying to make a connecting romance with the other party. The relationship itself was already established without a true role, which was a part of the movie.
There are two different endings to this movie as well. So it'll do well for future viewers to consider whether they want a good ending or a bad ending, or to try and watch both. I was satisfied and nearly teared up watching both endings.
The reason the re-watch value is a 5 for myself, is because I'm not someone who likes heavy stories. I try to avoid anything that isn't mellow or sweet. Since it was a good balance of torn love and mellow I managed to watch it. The filming itself seemed to be really good. For others I would assume the re-watch value is a lot higher. For myself I wouldn't re-watch it as it would be too irritating with such hard drama.

This second half of the movie did not disappoint. Again, the leads were the powerhouses leading the way.
Meng Rui is impressive, this movie is my introduction to his acting and I was more than satisfied with what I saw. Wang Bo Wen quietly made his mark as well, as Nian had to grasp certain realities in his life. The chemistry between Meng Rui and Bo Wen is off-the-charts. BTS videos of these two definitely confirmed this.
There were some wacky moments thrown in for good measure to keep things interesting. Don’t miss the extra scene towards the end of the credit roll.

Unfortunately sequel not living up to my expectations: disappointing
I really loved the first movie and I am quite disappointed by this sequel. The story took a turn that I did not appreciate as it focalised much more on external events and people being obstacles to the main romance, as well as some over-the-top melodramatic tropes than on the development of the master-servant relationship itself. The plot lost completely its appeal to me mostly in the second part of the movie, as the angst was coming foremost from quite soapy elements and much too quickly. There are 2 endings to this movie and I'm not fan of either of them due to the scenario becoming quite bonkers.
The main actors kept doing a good job but I was less invested in their couple. I think it is more likely linked to the scenario than to the cast but I was less enthralled by their chemistry together as the script gave them what felt like less opportunities to show nuances.
The music did not really stand out to me and the production was quite in line with the previous movie: standard and more what's expected in a series than in a film. As in the first movie, the subtitles unfortunately keep being appalling.
I would not necessarily recommend this to people unless you have seen the first movie. If you loved it and are curious about what happens to the characters, and do not mind some over-the-top narrative choices, you might give it a go to and see for yourself!

Toxic love anyone?
I want to start by saying, THANK god there are TWO endings to this! Watch the happy ending, skip the sad ending. I watched both and chose the happy ending because the other one seemed like a cheap finish. Or even just a shock value finish. The happy ending was much more fitting to the storyline.I really liked the idea behind this movie, the master and servant, but it was lacking a bit for what I wished it would have had. I did really feel for our main character Shu Nian, he had every reason to be confused and untrusting. I really enjoyed Xie Yan's crazy possessive passion, but I felt like it was a little lacking. He went wild a few times but he didn't really try to show Nian how he felt in a way Nian could have believed. For a bit there I thought Xie Yan would lock Nian up for awhile, and THAT would have been a twist I would have loved to watch. Keep him captive until he believes your feelings Xie Yan! Sorry, my dark side is coming out. But hey, this is a toxic movie so we're all here for our own reasons.
Overall a good watch, an interesting relationship, and it made me feel.

I like that the series has 2 endings, 1 sad and 1 happy. If i look at the happy ending while ignoring the sad one I think its still incomplete.
The chemistry between the leads is hardly shown which I am guessing is because of the censoring by the government.
The toxic relationship follows through the 2nd movie and kind of moves to another level.
Please ignore my music rating.
