There are past that belongs to Mr Namiya and the future that belongs to Atsuya and his friends. And in between there are also other characters in another different timeline. The future will interfere with the past and in the end everyone is connected to each other. Sounds confusing? No, the director did a great job not to confuse the viewer, he followed the event properly.
I will say that Toshiyuki Nishida is the main actor here, without him nothing will happened. He did his role perfectly up until the end. Yamada is an angry young man here, I always think he is a great actor, even in this movie. Both of them didn’t share any scene together, but the link between them will be explained more as we go further into the movie. Special shoutout to Kento Hayashi. His acting improved greatly in this movie. The woman beside me was crying so hard on his scene to the point that I too, get goosebumps.
The cinematography is beautiful, it didn’t use much sound or song except in a few scenes. There are no definite climax in this movie but the storyline is so clear, it keeps you wanted to know the real mystery behind everything. It is not the detective kind of movie, it is just people trying to make sense of what is going on. In the process, they learnt something very important in their lives which is relatable to us all. I really like the message this movie tried to convey. Recommended.

Already from the first minute movie gave me this curtain warm vibe to which I can't really find the right words to describe it. Which was also complemented by colours and the camera work.
Each character represents something to which any person can relate to. And that was the reason why I couldn't find anything that would annoy me in character personalities or their actions.
Would definitely recommend this to anybody who wants to experience happy sadness, to those who feel stuck somewhere in life and to those who just wants to watch something that makes think a bit.

I watched this not expecting to cry multiple times in just 2 hours, I cried because damn this film has feels and also I can kinda relate to some of them and this type of film makes me question a lot about my self.
Even though those advises were scripted, they have real value onto them; I'm glad I'm able to hear those words. I highly recommend this film to anyone.

Indeed, it's a miracle store!
It is a little slow and can be quite heavy to watch at some part, but because of its storyline, it makes me want to watch it and i'm glad i finish it. It's worth it.It's surprisingly easy to follow. Sometimes, fantasy show, especially one that involves "time slip" tends to get confusing, but not this one. It really is well executed and I really love each letter and its reply.
My favorite scene is when Namiya get to receive the letter from future. That's really touching that he gets to know he has lived a full, rich and meaningful life.
It's amazing how everything is inter-connected and how it ends in full circle. That last letter really wraps it up! Gist, it's SO good!!!

Interesting premise but confusing
I'm usually a huge fan of time travel type stories, especially when it has a sort of "oldie" vibe — and certainly, at the start, I really liked how the story was playing out. I loved both timelines and how they interacted with each other, and I also really liked all the characters and their backstories, and how those were tied together. As the movie went on, however, I definitely just felt like it lost me. There were more characters that I didn't care much about, the three boys started blurring into one another and doing things for no reason, and overall I just thought the movie became "jack of all trades, master of none."

Not much a different with the story between this version & Chinese version. But somehow, I don't know what or how this version feel more warm than the Chinese version. It feels more like Mr. Namiya cover me with blanket and tell me everything gonna be OK.
And somehow I also more like the version of the youth here, Yaguchi Atsuya, Kobayashi Shota & Aso Kohei, than the Chinese version. I forget or just simply don't know what make the different to be exact. But maybe the youth here feel more bitter & how Mr. Namiya in his last letter really give the warmth in one of their heart (I forget which one. Haha...)
Oh and I really love how they give us preview or a glimpse about the 3 youth future, this is a big different, cause as I remembered Chinese version don't have this. But just correct me if I'm wrong. Overall this one of the movie that give warmth to our heart after watching...

Please give this movie a chance to hug you.
I read the book-the book made me cry. When that happened, after learning there was a movie I was hesitant to watch it, despite my baby Yamachan starring in it... Because i thought, there's no way it will be able to make me feel the way that book did. That book made me stand back and study this world, and the people I'm with everyday. That book made me scared because of thinking that if I don't hurry up, I'll only become a torch for someone else's dream... and that book made me cry because how can so many people not believe that God exists when we are all connected, when life makes sense in such a complicated way.
But time went by and I forgot a little. So i watched this movie. And it made me remember-more than that, it took away my fear; Even if your life is really only meant to encourage the other dreamers to achieve their dreams, and yours is un-reached... That's okay too. Dreamers-don't we dream to encourage others anyway? Most often, with becoming a singer or a writer, an actor or a doctor-isn't that what you want to do? You want to reach others, and help others...and be remembered.
So not just the authors, the singers, the pilots, the fashion designers and the presidents make their mark here...The people who encourage us. . . They turn into memories too.
Every actor and actress did well. The music in this film lingers long after it stops... perfect feelings were captured in 'Reborn'.The only thing that holds me back from giving this movie a complete 5 stars is that some letters were left out,and i wish they showed more anguish for the musician-there was not enough longing shown there, there was not enough cinematography for him.
but i love the way the movie retold the book, and i love what details it added. If you're ready to remember what it is to live, watch this movie. Or, maybe you just need a hug? Okay, watch it then.

Heartwarming
The movie adaptation was very good, It was so beautiful. Having read the book before discovering that it was adapted into a movie, I did not expect much as I guessed each chapter alone will be challenging to adapt. They would have to depict many stories at a time, hence I believe it would be difficult. But, the movie was excellent. I loved how they depict the stories well, the journey to finding out all of the necessary details were beautifully done. Though I would prefer the book more, I loved the cinematography and the beauty of the movie. Great casting and I would say it was an extremely heartwarming story that teaches you the lessons in life. Was this review helpful to you?
Lovely inspirational movie .... so refreshing to watch
Just chose this movie by chance and I was so happy to have found it. What a lovely movie. The storyline was intricate in its unfolding and has such inspirational words and moments that were so heartfelt. This movie is very worthwhile watching at any time and is completely agelesss. The whole production was excellent. The characters were interesting and the acting was well done. The music was hauntingly beautiful and has been put onto my list for periodic future sampling.
Mu use of Dramalist led me to find this gem. Very useful tool. Thank you to all those involved in Dramalist and this movie.

The begining was nice, as the story started growing and the movie presented the odd parallel world that was connecting the past with the present through the letters. Midway though, the movie got a bit boring for me. It picked up a lot after a while, however, with strong dramatic scenes and just great performances. The small letter cases were nice as well, although I found myself confused by the main one at times.
So, for the performances and the world built up, six and a half out of ten.
