I stared watching this purely because Sungjoo was in it and I was excited for his Korea drama debut, but I didn’t know what to expect, plot wise. Overall though, it was a pretty good drama and it made me want to watch it all the way through. However, it’s not one of those dramas i’d watch over and over. The plot was cool and so was the acting. My MAIN problem was the characters. The two lead characters were a mess and their storyline was not that interesting. I was more into the 2nd lead and the relationship of two of the supporting characters.

The Real Review

At first, I didn’t want to do this but there were some things that the show portrayed that not many people talk about

The romance, For me I think this was the most satisfying romance I have seen so far cause in other shows I have watched, they often start off in a relationship but then break it off for very odd reasons (like maybe something their parents did) but for this one, they only started when they were sure that they were ready which made me love it
It was really cute and soo satisfying (don’t know why y’all don’t like it though)

For the acting, I think everyone did a good job. In the case of Joy, I would say that I preferred her more for this role than the role she had in The Great Seducer. It portrayed her voice and suited her better (she was great stop hating)
The male actors damn were they fine.

Most people may say the show was a drag but I didn’t really see it cause for me I would say this show was mostly about artist in the music industry and what they go through (that’s just how I looked at it, I also didn’t watch the Japanese version) and they portrayed it well. Every character had their own faults which added a bit of spice to the drama.

Just to add, after watching this, let’s just say that I have learnt to really appreciate artist and idols cause you never really know what is going on in the music industry because we only see what they want us to see and the little information that leaks out to the public.
We shouldn’t judge some certain things artist do cause you never know whether they had a say, how they really feel and what they had to lose just so they can please us and as you can see they are forced to adhere to a contract

Hope you guys enjoyed the show the way I did and for those who haven’t watched it good luck and those who didn’t like it ......

if not for anything else: watch it for the music

How is it, that Korea is so international famous for it's K-Pop, but while I just cannot stand most of the KPOP music (sorry, taste is personal), the K-Dramas have really good music. Why do they not let a real band like CrudePlay or Mush&Co debut and make them international? They do have the industry cut out for this.

The FL has an amazing voice! So high and clear, combined with a music, that emphazices her, you do not hear that often!
The songs, the ML produces really stay in your head.

What brings me to the story being ~ dependend on your personal liking. It probably is just an easy plot to go along. Typical triangle, but the FL decided long before the two MLs. There is a rivalry between the MLs on two topics: producing and playing bass. Both of them are a prodigy in one each, so it is quite balanced.
Rewatch value is relatively high, not only for the music, but also because I could better understand inner struggles and proper meaning of the words at a rewatch. But I did not rewatch it for that, there are better dramas out there.

The acting and quality is as high as one is used to in K-Dramas. Which is a compliment. One can easily immerse in the story, without always thinking, something does not feel right (except for parts of the storyline itself)

If you're into light, flirty, mushy, with lotsa awkward, romantic excitement kind of romcom, then this is the best pick! - - well, atleast it just became one of my favorite drama that I watched it twice(!) WHY?? Because I simply liked it - - and I wanted to relive those "coincidental moments" (LOL)

I won't be giving much spoilers because it's way much better if you watch it. I didn't get bored since it only has 16 episodes and this is one of those dramas that I didn't use the forward button.. so yeah, for me it's a good one.

The ML is the masked Producer "K" (Crude Play band)/ Kang Han Kyeol, played by (oppa ??) Lee Hyun Woo. He is just perfect for this role.. makes you swoon everytime he appears on the screen that even if in the first few episodes his character was rather selfish and self centered. It's so hard to hate let alone cuss on him because somehow I feel that he meant well ( and seriously, I find it so hard to hate him.. period!).

The FL is Sorim, played by Joy (Red Velvet). I like her acting just because the role as an innocent, ambitious highschool girl suits her. I've read a lot of negative reviews about her most especially the scene in the Cheongdam Bridge (ep. 2) where Sorim fell in love at first sight with Han Kyeol. Allegedly, the way she gazed at him was kinda flat.. but hey! Maybe that's just the way she herself gaze at someone, like duh!?? Have you seen yourself being in THAT kind of situation? Maybe I look worse ? who knows right?? TBH every romantic excitement she felt, I felt it. Her painfully (but still funny) awkward moments with Han Kyeol, or Chanyeoung or, Crude Play, dude seriously! I felt that too (Lol)! So, FOR ME, Joy did a good job portraying the role.

Lee Seo Won (!!!!!!!) Oppa did great doing a support role as Suzy Bae's beloved brother in Uncontrollably Fond. In The liar and his lover however, Seo Won portrayed Crude Play bassist Chanyeoung. His character also falls in love with Sorim. There's no question about his acting (heart) I love that he has a lot and a bit longer exposure. Sure hope he gets to be in a drama/movie where he will be that guy who finally gets the girl

Over all I like this drama!, the OST, the casts ???

As much as I want to love this drama, it was a little disappointing for me. My expectations of the drama was set too high (hearing Joy actually auditioned for this role) and sadly, this drama didn't quite fulfill my expectations. But then it was an enjoyable drama, not the worst:)

Firstly, the story is soooo unrealistic. I haven't watch the Japanese version (movie etc) of it so I am not quite sure how they portrayed it; the fall in love at first sight is just so unbelievable (and awkward). Actually, there are a lot of unbelievable parts (the entertainment industry, the bitch classmate etc). I do understand that dramas normally have a lot of loopholes in general and we will be scolding the characters/writers while we watch it. But then in this case its really too fake....

Next, the cast is good looking and eye catching.By looking at the posters, they seems to suit their roles individually. And again, the problems comes in when they act. There is already problems with their story and hence it will be difficult for the actors to save the day. Joy acts really good in her singing and happy, cheerful scenes. But then her troubled and sad times make me feel sooo awkward. (I really do love Joy) And for other actors and actresses, there are fairly good for this drama:)

Music is the saving point for me. Joy's singing is gold! And Yuna (in the drama) sings very well too. Like wise Crude Play also have some great songs (I like Peterpan) And so they deserve a high mark on this:)

All in all, I expect something better from HyunWoo and Joy. Hyun Woo deserves better storylines/characters for him display his acting. Btw, he seems a bit childish looking/feeling here, he was so hot in Moorim School (that blonde hair) haha. I hope Joy can get another great drama and impress us sometime.

I was so surprised to see Red Velvet's Joy in a drama, but I think this role suits her really well. Her semi-awkward acting really compliments her character. I'm a sucker for idol dramas (with idol actors or dramas with actors as idols in the show) and this definitely hits the spot. The plot is good and it kept me watching, but was a little slow in some spots- the whole time I was basically just pressing the 'next episode' button and waiting for the Joy and Lee Hyun Woo to figure out their feelings. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I can see how it might lower your rating of the show. Because this show features a band (CRUDEPLAY) which was created inside of Lovely Love Lie, it allows for a lot of boy group style songs which are original to the show, which was really cool. Plus Joy's fun songs and her collaborations with the made lead left me humming for weeks after I finished this drama. It's one of the only dramas I've seen which features so many original songs that are not just OSTs, but are actually written for the characters to perform on the show, so that was really interesting. If you're not in it for the plot, the music alone makes it a must watch.

In my opinion this drama has one main Theme "How much can we hurt the second male lead". I didn't read the Original Manga but I watched the japanese version in which I liked the story but not the Acting. The Korean version is the opposite. The drama is boring. 16 Episodes are too much. i think it would have been better when there were only 12 Episodes. So the story was lame...But maybe my expectations were too high for the drama because I was very excited for the cast.

The best was the Acting and the chemistry between the bandmembers. When Lee Hyunwoo was cast I was like "Please give him a good leading lady" because he hasn't much luck with his partners. Then there were the news that Joy from Red Velvet would join...I don't have a problem with idols acting, but I don't approve of them when there first ever role is the main role. So I had very high expectations...I mean the production staff must have a good reason for casting her as Soorim and not as a supporting Actress...Honestly, she was okay. Not very good but not bad either. Lee Hyunwoo was good (like every time even though the story is bad). I hope he gets a better script next time. I think the role doesn't suit him so I don't have much to say about him. But his chemistry with Joy was...bad or should I say there wasn't any chemistry between them?
There are two other Actors I want to talk about because they were amazing in their roles. One of them is Lee Seowon. I love him since I first saw him in Uncontrollably Fond as Suzys little brother. His role here is very sad, dramatic and lonely. Chanyoung joined Crude play when Hangyeol (LHW) left to produce their music. Over the years he felt never like he was accepted by the other members. He thinks he is a substitute for Hangyeol and has bad feelings about him. He wants to be better. In my opnion he isn't the typical second lead who is mean to his rival because of the girl both of them love. I pitied him from episode one until the end. Lee Seowon played so amazing. He is one of two reasons why I could watch this drama until the end.
The Second reason is Kim Sungjoo. He is the main vocal and korean Leader of the Boygroup Uniq who debuted 3 years ago. He plays Yoo Shihyun, the leader and Vocal od Crude Play, who is funny and loves his members very much. Sometimes he seems like a playboy but in reality he is hurt because there is one girl he loves for a long time. Sadly, his role gets not much attention. His Chemistry with Lee Seowon and the others is very good. Even though his Screen time together with Lee Haeun (who played his sunbae from high school Sooyun) isn't very much the chemistry between them is very good and i wished that couple would get an extra drama v.v The last few episodes I pitied him a lot. He was so sad and I wanted to hug him. Like Lee Seowon he acted very good for a rookie. I think he has main lead potenzial and is one of the few Idols who can really act.

The Music was good, even though I don't liked the songs by Joy. I don't know why, maybe it is because i don't like her voice v.v. But the Songs by Crude Play are very good. Sungjoo has a very good voice. I am sure he could sing more OST...

I would recommend the drama for hardcore Red Velvet Fans and for people who doesn't care about the story but about the Acting.

Its a light and refreshing Kdrama but it's not so much of a rewatch value. There is little to no chemistry between Joy and Lee Hyun-Woo. If more experienced actors were casted, I think the whole series would have given much more of an impact. The songs however are really catchy and nice.

It's So Darn Boring!

Okay, I'm reading that the lead female is in a music group. I can overlook that and generally take the show in without any prenotions. It is borning as heck. In the first twenty minutes, I began to fast forward to the next scene. I thought am I going to finish this series or drop it. It does not go anywhere fast enough. The casting is questionable, but not terrible. Anyway, I found myself pushing fast-forward threw so many parts and feeling guilty about it. However, I don't think I missed anything important. I believe I could re-write this and make it more enticing. I'm trying not to expect anything so that I might have a surprise before episode five. I am giving this series five episodes to get better. If it doesn't pique my interest, I have to drop it and metaphorically cover it with dirt.

The Liar and His Lover foi um dorama bem monótono, digamos assim.
