A beautiful drama that will make you laugh and cry
The story is nothing new. It's probably been told a lot of times and may be even cliche, but what makes this drama work are the characters, especially the main leads.I love the chemistry of the main lead. The two are undeniably look good together. I know that there's meant to be a big age gap between the two, but honestly, aesthetic wise, the age don't seem to be off - it's just that at first glance the male lead has a baby face and look young. Personality wise and how they handle relationship don't show the age gap. At first they made a point of showing how young the male lead is by giving him a job with video games and playing toy guns with co-workers, but that don't really change much of how you see him when he is with Jin-A. The thing is, when it comes to relationship, the two seems to have similar approach. They lie and deal things on themselves because they don't want to cause pain or inconvenience to their partners. That's one thing I really did not like with this drama, the male leads did not evolve leading up to the end of the series to communicate well. They always end up patching things up with a cuddle and not really have an adult talk about issues - hence the break up and big fight. Moving forward, this probably is one thing the story should lead into, had there been more stories to tell.
Music is one thing annoys me in this series. The repetitive and at some point unnecessary 'what makes a woman'. I don't mind the other soundtrack, it was just this music trying to put the whole show's vibe into some 1960s, yet trying and poorly attempt to remind audience that the female lead is old.
I know some people hate the slow pace and repetitiveness. True, that some of the plots are repetitive. But I do enjoy the slow pace. The few extra clippings of them together, the look at each other, the artistic shots, they are beautiful - it brings the right atmosphere and to the world of the two leads. It makes everything realistic too.
As much as I like the ending, the happy ending felt like should be a lot longer.
I think all the characters did a great job, especially the supporting ones to build around the main leads. I know a lot of people hate the mother, but being asian, I understand the ridiculous POV. Im glad that the dad somewhat is on Jin-A's side to counter this.
It's worth a watch. Once you get to invest on the character, I can guarantee you will binge watch it to the end.

slow paced story with enormous romance
I am huge Jung Hae In fan, so I simply watched this drama to get enormous energy from him. You know he just soooo cute and excellent as an actor.
STORY
A young guy falls for an older woman whom he had a crush on since he was kid. They grew up as family as the FL has a bestie and ML is the brother of her bestie. FL brother is also best friend with the ML. FL is also suffering from work place harassment and ex-boyfriend problem.
PLOT VIEW
I understand that joon hee had crush on jin ah so he falls for her instantly. I felt that jin ah was going through a BREAKUP and while joon hee tries to protect and her, she falls for him. Joon hee woos her with his energetic and polite ways asking her NOONA BUY ME A MEAL. Its really interesting, they bond over food and rain and thats why its something in the rain.
The ex boyfriend is more of like a stalker, why didn’t the FL family get to know what jin ah is going through.
While the romantic scenes were awesome but you know too much of anything spoils the mood. they romance was everywhere and the story didnt seem progressing.
jin ah mother was a total nightmare, she is not concerned with age but the social status, really she was the most stubborn mother of kdramas and super annoying, and until the end she thinks that what she did was right.
I was disappointed with the overall ending of the stories. Workplace matter was shown as secondary story of series but didn’t give a proper ending, WHY.
The second chance was not given enough time, initially the episodes were lengthy but very slow. I felt like skipping but JHI is a savior.
ACTING
Son ye jin awesome, her portrayal of an older working woman was apt. The falling in love with younger guy is also done nicely as she denies it many a times, her thoughts that joon hee is the brother of best friend fits to the societal values but the way she falls for him is really feel good, slowly and charmingly. She has her values but she gives in to the situation is so not right
Jung Hae In my super cute crush. He is amazing and natural. His face does all the work and he is the most perfect choice for Joon hee. The way he woos and protects jin ah, the way he has grown up with his sister without parents is so natural.
Jang se yeon was the bestie I would ask for. She is there for jin ah every time. She is also a good sister and parent to joon hee as she raised him to be a good man.
Wi ha joon was super excellent brother and friend. He was the most thoughtful person. He protected his sister, helped his friend, took a stand infront of the mother. I just loved him.
MUSIC
The most catchy song was save the last dance for me, The classic song by The Drifters. Bruce wills have voiced it perfectly and made a great cover for the series.
Another song I liked was stand your man, another classic by Tammy wynette
Other ost were also nice and worth listening.
REWATCH
The show was kind of slow paced so I would consider just watching the JHI parts. Rather than secondary stories just the main couple.
APPRECIATION
Even though there is age gap between the leads which is also the theme of drama the chemistry is touching. Not for an instance I felt that they were acting, it was so concrete.
The color palette was wow, the snowy white background, the red and green umbrella while walking in the rain.

Not for everyone
The drama I guess is not for everyone but I personally loved it it is depiction of reality that real life is not a fairytale with happy ending we have to overcome obstacles in love I personally like the story beautifully presented by the director I love her stories..and the chemistry was wow I enjoyed it personally ?......I recommend it to those who love stories with little bit of melodrama but it was totally worth it.. it gives me so many butterflies..I preferly love the music it was so soothing..and the story to this type of stories usually give the feeling of how hard life has been for a woman..
Recommend watch!!

One of the best show ever with few flaws which can be easily overlook..they should win grammy for their acting..
Love this drama for it's naturality.
this is pure romance
Yeah. its nothing but romantic show. if you are in mood for romance this definitely is one for you. however you should know this is a bit slow since this focus purely on romance plot. if thats your cup of tea then this is addicting. acting is topnotch. both lead actors perfectly into their roles. they are very natural. their chemistry is the biggest takeaway from this show.

This drama is one of the best dramas I have ever seen. It is best recommended for who likes melodrama and an emotional drama.
Finally, about the music, it's amazingly superb. It is one of the heart touching romantic drama that attracts every age group.

Well portrayed feels without words. Joon hee made me go all the way towards end.
Screenplay was superb, that sometimes even without dialogues you could not fast forward and watch the scenes(first 7-8 episodes). The storyline is about a woman in her late 30s who have dated many men and couldn't find true love. Though FL faces many issues related to family, work and bestfriend her performance was also a bit off towards the end. And I can't just bring myself up to justify the FL's action in last 2 episodes,.. FL's mom is definitely a mood breaker but her acting was good. FL's bestfriend (ML's sister) was real, no dramas and understandable..FL's character was like a little off at times, you can't really feel the truth in it.. Times when she can date other person within a short period of three months (portrayed without any explanation), how she handles her bestfriends misunderstanding, her work issue.. Though knowing all these, a man(Joon hee) who is completely head over heels at her is an ideal man appears only in dramaland :(..
ML's character is just wholesome and his acting was just awesome. And I personally think he is the only reason most of the viewers watched till the final scene.
I finally feel that the theme is not portrayed properly. What exactly is the drama trying to convey? love beyond everything? true love always ends happy? I m sure they'll breakup again after the final episode patch up considering the FL's character. And I really got no happiness in the ending though they both ended together. Felt bad for Joon hee :(

Same goes here...main lead girl was trying too hard to feel love and then she found love in a guy who was not only way too younger but a rare relationship...
I must say she was far more better than personal taste in acting terms but something was missing... I think the spontaneity that we enjoy in personal taste was lacking here...of course our oppa was amazing as always and he is getting better day by day... You will smile, cry and sometimes get irritated as they went through a lot and made many decisions that are not acceptable at first by our hearts...why guilty when its love? Why parting when you want to be together? Many whys and each why will keep you connected to characters and plot...
Plot is very good and executed well...though you will feel a drag sometimes but still a good story overall...
Music is good and quiet heart touching...
Overall a very good drama with some intense love and social issues...

SHOULD'VE BEEN A MOVIE
Something in the rain came to me as a really fresh drama and watching the teasers i was very much intrigued by it. The whole concept really got me interested and drew me in immediately. The initial episodes i will definitely say had me kind of wanting to watch more and more. This actually portrayed a very realistic sort of romance.
It felt like the writers were in the minds of their viewers and they made everything happen as you,the viewer, would have done, but yes unfortunately only lasted for the initial half of the drama.
Initially let me tell you, the viewers would be taken into the chemistry of the leads, the romantic encounters( there are a lottttt) and all of the little tit bit will make you continue watching it, but by the end of the initial half everything would start feeling irrelevant and repetitive.
I personally felt as if the writers were just dragging on the story line way more than they should have by creating unnecessary scenarios and fights that weren't even showed as properly resolved.
The whole plot of the second half basically revolved around crying, unnecessary arguments, lying to the other half, and miscommunication.
I would never say that SITR was a bad drama, not it wasn't. It just couldn't hold ones interest as the storyline deteriorated as the episodes passed and towards the end just too many plot holes were left open.
The ending was a underdeveloped, and yet again i repeat too many plotholes were left as it is. It was too abrupt and made it seem like after the whole reason of things not going right for them they just went back to square one. No conclusion, no proper communication NOTHING. They just kiss and make up? like i was so disappointed to see that the whole potential of the drama was wasted just for the sake of making it 16 episodes long.
Honestly it would have been perfect as a 2 hour movie, and believe me it would have been PERFECT, with nothing being missed out and all the faults in the drama being dragged out:/
OST-
I initially found the whole western songs playing in the background thing really beautiful during the starting episodes but by the time i came into episode 7 i was just bored, with the same songs playing every now and then that even not during the perfect timing it was just annoying.
I would conclude this by saying that Something in the rain would come in my category of an okayish drama which actually had a lot of potential but wasn't upto the mark and ended up disappointing me a bit.
If you are a sucker for romance and are really free i think you should check this one out, but if you are a bit tight on time and everything believe me there are some better options out there:)

But all good things must come to an end apparently. The "we can't tell anyone" thing just dragged on a little too long until they are found out. Then everyone freaks out and I stopped being able to relate. I know it's maybe a cultural thing for a grown woman to still have to get permission for things from her parents but as a westerner I couldn't relate and it started to grate on my nerves. I'm sorry if that is offensive, it's not meant to be.
The main couple's relationship seems built on a house of cards that crumbled with the slightest wind. There just wasn't much between them save a physical attraction. Perhaps I would have stuck with it if there was more I could relate to. Alas, there wasn't so I bailed around episode 12.
PS. the music gets REALLY repetitive.

This is a story about Jin-ah's journey, but I wish she had a bit more growth. Joon Hee is as great as they come, and I would love nothing more than to have my own Jung Hae In (seriously, this character warped my expectations for love like crazy!).
Perhaps I don't fully understand all the cultural implications and taboos here, although I suppose I could put in some proxies. I wish Jin-ah stood up to her parents more, and communicated better during crucial times, but I suppose this story was heartbreaking because of its realism (especially re: the workplace resolution). The ending was lukewarm though, and that was the unsatisfying part. If it were more definitive in either direction (happy or sad, forever or never), I would've possibly come around to the message that the writer was trying to convey. Instead, I'm left wondering: does love really conquer all, or do we have to come to accept the consequences of our actions? To be honest, it makes me feel a little empty inside. I'll surely come to revisit some of the cute scenes from episodes 3-6 sometime though. Episode 5 was probably the most deliriously happy episode I've ever seen in a kdrdama.

I fail to understand why anyone could like this series
It's actually been a while since I watched this series, so forgive me if I misremembered some points; my memory is super hazy. But rage about how much this irritated me suddenly came back when I saw it on My Drama List. I hate that I wasted time and energy watching this show. The premise is great - best friend's brother, older woman-younger man, whatever - these are tropes I understand and even enjoy if done right.
But the way this couple and the people around them act infuriates me beyond words.
The way they're acting like they're being oppressed when they're just a common straight couple boils my blood so bad. The way their families behaved is crazy. I just can't understand why the families act like they've committed a huge crime when they have a normal relationship.
Like, they both are old enough to not let whatever their families say get to them. I get it, Asian family ties (I'm Asian myself) or whatever but it's literally their lives. I'd have actually liked the show if they showed some backbone and stood up for themselves instead of acting super miserable.
I think the woman and man had backstories? And those parts where genuinely bad stuff happened to them were sad - I think there was some creepy ex going after the girl which did feel uncomfortable and real.
Things I liked - everything except the plot and characters, probably. I loved the music and the scenery - they felt beautiful and somewhat nostalgic. They somehow encapsulated the feeling of being smitten with someone. And when the couple was just in love and not whining I kind of liked their relationship, but that was only in very specific parts.
Anyway, if you somehow don't find a straight couple crying about how unfair their lives are and families that piss you off annoying, you'll definitely like this show. And I'm glad for you if that's the case, I could never be that patient.
Just wanted to put this review out in case someone disliked this show like I did, lol
