Both of these dramas feel very similar: college/university life, social problems, bullying, misunderstandings and betrayals.
It has the whole university drama feels. Kim bok joo falls in love with a guy and she feels bad about how she looks and what she does (weightlifting), so she tries to change everything about herself. At the end of the day she fell in love with someone else, and learned to love who she is.
Both dramas are similar in a sense that they kind of focus on "beauty" or something on the outside, without neglecting being intelligent and talented as well.
*Let me explain further. In Love o2o, the male lead, Xiao Nai, is unbelievably handsome and talented, the same as the lead in My ID is Gangnam Beauty, Do Kyung Suk is also handsome and unbelievably intelligent as well. Both actors who plays them are also what their characters embody, handsome and dreamy... The female leads, in LO, she is a portrayed as a "real" beauty, while on MIIGB, the female lead's "beauty" is a product plastic surgery. All the characters on both dramas somewhat rely on "beauty" or something physical.
**As for the differences, of course, LO is based on 2 people meeting and "getting married" in a computer online game, thus getting together in real life of the drama-i mean outside of the game. Then on MIIGB, people judge the female lead bec of her plastic surgery. So the dramas are entirely different plot, but both somewhat focused on "beauty" and proving that it is not everything: you have to have substance as well.

This series tells the story of Kang Mi Rae, a girl once bullied for her looks. As a result, she became insecure, cautious around people and withdrawn. However, Mi Rae decides she wants a fresh start away from bullying and gets plastic surgery to transform her face. When she begins university, she meets Do Kyung Suk from their middle school days, who sees people for what they are on the inside and not the outside; he then becomes attracted to Kang Mi Rae.
As Mi Rae begins to get teased once more and labeled "Gangnam Beauty", the cold, aloof but kind inside Kyung Suk becomes the one person that stands up for her and in the process, Mi Rae begins to recover her lost confidence and discovers that true beauty is not on the outside.

Both dramas feature female leads dealing with crippling insecurity that they learn to slowly overcome throughout the story alongside male leads who are thoughtful and kind and do their best to lift up the female leads and help them see how worthwhile they are. Both dramas also tackle sensitive and important topics such as plastic surgery and agoraphobia and self esteem and the fear of judgement and/or hatred from others.
Both are university romantic comedies. The male leads are extremely similar: both have very sweet, nerdy, quiet, cool male leads who unwaveringly love the main lead in a very sweet way although they can be oblivious to the female mind and dating dos and donts (in a very enduring way). The MF is also fun to watch and are both trying to figure out their place in the world. At the end of the day both dramas leave you feeling warm and bubble, although can be easily forgotten.
The FL ends up getting plastic surgery on her face before entering university, after being bullied for her looks all her life. She only does so with the help of her mom without her dad finding out. Now with the face she's always wanted, she's considered as one of the most attractive girls in her department. But the complex she's had and the fact she had her entire face redone is something she wants no one to find out about. -
