Good plot, poor delivery

I feel like this drama has 6 extra episodes that could've been easily deleted. Overall the plot is interesting and original but through out the second half of the drama the storyline stars dragging and the ridiculousness starts.

What angers me the most is that this drama had the potential to do so much but the development was too poor. Around ep 10 I started to feel that the plot was getting ridiculous and it was dragging itself. The same situations kept on happening and always with the same characters.

What I liked the most about it was the main couple. The chemistry was lovely, their scenes and actions were natural and beautiful. I've seen another drama with Bo Young (Strong woman) and I feel like she always has good chemistry with her co-protagonists. Hyoseop stole my heart, I feel like he did a good job with his character. Both of them, actually. But the problem is that I feel like their characters were poorly written. The shift between their two personalities (the old one in their old bodies, and the new ones) are too abrupt and don't have coherence with their past selves.

Hee Jin is the worst character. I feel like half of the problems the characters had in the story, they are all Hee Jin's fault. The same situation repeated itself at least three times with this character. Couldn't stand her at all. And the police officers... god, just get another job, you clearly are not capable of doing simple tasks and just, I don't know, do the MINIMUM. How can you be so incompetent ????? I truly can't understand.

The ending. GOD THAT ENDING, WHAT THE FUCK WAS TAHT ????? I'm really disappointed. I don't want to spoil it so I won't do that but god... why. Just why. I feel like they could've written a better explanation for all of the things that happened thorught the drama but instead went for a happy ending with poorly explained plot.

Overall, the two things I liked the most were the main couple and one of the songs, Fallin'. The rest was just poorly written and delivered.

The cast did well, the characters were entertaining, villains not that bad, production value was obviously high... so why didn't it work out? Not enough brain power was used in writing the plot.

Fantasy set in modern times should explore the unexplained, but never go against what we actually know and contradict the reality. When they dropped the "I got resurrected in a new body, but my DNA stayed the same" I was extremely close to dropping it again. Honestly, I did not think it could go any more illogical.

Sadly, the lack of logic was a prominent part of the plot. Characters, depending on the given situation, turned either smart or dumb. The show used exactly the same plot lines over and over again. How many times can I watch Hee Jin's mom being kidnapped? Or Se Yun being in the same type of danger?

The ridiculousness of the script made it entertaining though. There is one secret child, and then there is another... and third. Cross-dressing Cha Min DEAD BODY and putting a wig on it, so the killer can bring him back to life... And the weird plot twist in the end with god (?) showing up, just to give us that sweet forced happy ending.

I'm sorry, but when Cha Min started disappearing Thanos style I laughed like crazy. How nice of the Abyss to start from the bottom to the top, so he had these few seconds to say goodbye. The rules of Abyss make no sense; that's the conclusion.

Also, at some point I wanted to (┛ಠ_ಠ)┛彡┻━┻ after hearing all the "Se Yun is not as pretty now, she looks average" jokes and comments. It was laughable with how beautiful Park Bo Young is.

So, did I like anything? Yes. I'd say the cast did an amazing job portraying the characters and the chemistry between the leads was truly great. The thing that caught my attention was how natural the skinship was.

Overall, I kind of enjoyed the experience of watching, simply because my expectations were as low as possible. My forehead hurts from facepalming.

out of all the 2019 dramas i’ve watched this year... this is by far the worst one. messy writing, repetitive, unsatisfying. i skipped a lot of scenes too. this drama had so much potential, and it got me hooked from the first episode, but it just went downhill from there... it’s not like i have regrets watching it but at the same time it was a waste of time. the characters made poor and unreasonable choices. i didn’t feel the leads chemistry in this, so definitely don’t watch this only for the romance if you are planning to. on the positive side, the music & ost was great. the acting was great. the cast was great. this wasn’t really all that enjoyable and i don’t think i will ever watch this again. i also forced myself to watch until the end, so idk what else to tell you. cha min turned into a whole different person after the abyss and it seemed like seyeon only wanted things to become official with cha min only right after their physical change. also idk how they could call seyeon ugly when she clearly wasn’t. but again, nothing bad about the actors. they portrayed the characters very well and they were really into character.

Already at the beginning we can see if you want to try to enjoy the watching, this drama is not to be seen as critics but as someone who tries to look for the comic side of the drama or spend time without holding on to the story.
I didn't even think the plot was that bad, it's not the most original but in my opinion if the drama had been written / directed in a different way it would have a minimally good concept to consider the series also minimally good.
The drama could have been smaller, 12 eps would have been enough, if we remove the several unnecessary repetitive scenes that even made the series drag on too much. Not to mention that when referring to the same story of certain characters several times, the relationship of others became quite confused as for example the relationship between Se-Yeon and Ji-Wook.

I was expecting better story... But it's completely waste of time... From beginning to end there is nothing in the story... Lol... A child can right better story than this... This Drama had very good cast but without good story and poor explanation of paranormal events ruined it. Very disappointing... Too many loopholes...

A serial killer was caught after so many years... I don't know how Korean police can't keep him behind the bar and lose him?... Is Korean police that weak? Criminals can escape that easily? Lol... Completely poor imagination...

I suggest not to watch this drama...

Abyss starring Ahn Hyo-Seop & Park Bo-Young: A wasted potential

The story starts with an ugly man named Cha Min, whose fiancee dumps him, he has a friend with whom he had a crush for the past twenty years but never got accepted, and the friend Go Suyeon gets murdered. Min gets revived by a marble called Abyss and later uses the marble on Suyeon, but the catch is that they both have different faces now.

From the very start, I didn't like Cha Min's character and so of Suyeon, they added a serial killer subplot to the story but never really told us why, why was the Oh Yeong-Cheol killing everyone? Why did Seo-JI-Uk become his accomplice when he hated him so much?

There were too many plotholes, like how did the people around the real Mi-do react when they found out that she had plastic surgery but there was another woman who looked exactly like her? How did Suyeon (PBY) go to live her life when Go Suyeon was declared dead?

Killing Cha Min in the last episode was unnecessary, instead of that plot they could have concluded on Seo Ji-Uk, maybe giving Go Suyeona another face.

Would not recommend watching.

I started watching this one because of Park Bo Young, big fan of her work. Different character for her as this time she's not playing a timid character but a strong lawyer and she pulls it off well.

It's a fantasy, so you do need to somewhat leave your critical thinking mind at the door but there wasn't anything that made me just throw my arms in the air and go "but that's just utter nonsense" at all, it seemed like it was quite consistent with itself in a world that such an object might exist. I liked the presentation of it, the graphics and CG etc are done really well. The premise is also really interesting with the Abyss object and the powers it grants.

This one is difficult to fairly review without putting in spoilers, so I guess the non-spoiler summary of this one should answer the question - is this one worth watching. I'm going to say yes, but, be prepared for a less than satisfying ending.

The story goes really well until the end, and then suddenly it's over and you're left with the feeling of "what just happened". I re-watched the final episode again a second time because I was convinced that i'd missed something, but I hadnt, so it definitely feels like they took a 20 episode arc and put the final 5 in to the final episode of 16 episode arc, like it got cut short at the end.

I've seen commentary online that people feel the writer did a bad job because of the ending and honestly I don't agree, this one feels like it was out of the writers hands - the rest of the story stands up well, and it's because the rest of the story stands up that I'm happy to recommend this one. A good ending would have made it a solid 10 star for me.

The story started with a fascinating premise but failed to deliver. The "Abyss" is a magical marble which gave them another chance at life with a different physical appearance but their fingerprints, DNA and the like remains the same. That's how Cha Min (Ahn Hyo Seop) proved to his mother who he was when he came back as a very good-looking man. On the other hand, Go Se Yeon ( Park Bo Young) came back with a "common face". I didn't like this a bit because I think Park Bo Young is beautiful and isn't in the category of a "common face".

Both Go Se Yeon and Cha min have been best friends for 20 years and apparently Se Yeon "liked him" once in awhile during those years of friendship. I mean Hello? It's too obvious that she started looking at him as a man only when he came back as a handsome guy. For me, this is just a shallow reason for her to finally "fall in love" with him. Of course, his character has admirable traits and an added bonus was his new easy-to-look-at face. But the sparks and chemistry just didn't happen. They do look good together and their relationship was showcased on the last 4 episodes but it wasn't convincing enough.

As for the mystery and suspense part, it was interesting enough but dragging. There was a point where I wanted to drop the show but you'll be curious enough to finish it. Lastly, I'm a big fan of Park Bo Young and it's also one of the reason why I had to finish it. Her acting's good but it's not her fault that the story fell flat at the end especially when the "Abyss" wasn't really explained fully.

Felt like three separate dramas and none of them made sense.

I feel like I am being generous giving this drama two stars. It really should just be 0 stars and listen I am not someone who is easily turned off by shows, but I cannot think of any charming points of this show other than it had actors I liked in subpar roles and one good song. I laughed in some parts but just at the sheer idiocy at everything this drama had to offer. People are excusing this drama's piss poor nonsensical plot because it has their favorites, but it is okay to admit that this drama is a dumpster truck. I can not see anyone genuinely giving this drama more than 5 stars in anyway. The writer constantly wrote themselves into a wall then decided to fix shit very stupidly???? The characters did not make sense and would clearly only do things because the writer wanted them to so that the story could progress. Also at no point in time did I feel an ounce of romantic chemistry between the two leads. I am happy to have seen Ahn Hyo Seop had improved from this in Dr. Romantic 2. This drama was textbook doing too much and trying too hard. Such a pity to see an interesting concept wasted like this.

Okay Here comes my honest and brutal opinion.

My expectation just destroyed after Episode 8-ish? I don't know what happened to this series, really. Is it too long? Not really but the first episode got me interested to continue but after they only focusing on the crime, it got me kind of bored but since i don't have anything to do, I did watch it. It's a waste though because the actor and actress are amazing. I only watch it because Park Bo Young & Ahn Hyo Seop. They are so cute together.

The cringe level is slightly above danger level. It's kinda cringe and makes me roll my eyes to be honest. What a shame. I think Hyoseop and bo young have more potential. For the plot, i think they should include something in it to make the audience to watch it even more. There is no cliffhanger ? I am not sure. I just ran out of words to watch this. And it seems like the ending is rushed to. They didn't exactly explain with details how Cha Min can come back to life and i don't know why but it ends with Go Seyeon got pregnant makes me feels.. "ugh srsly?"

Overall, the drama is okay. slightly below average but it's okay for you to watch if you have some time to kill but if you really want a good drama. This is not it.

Haisssss

i came because i love the actress, b-but the story is :( its just that bad, at least for me, haha.

im not expert at reviewing story or acting, so i just stating my own opinion, idk the story is like cat chasing their own tail, spinning-in-place-like story. but if you like the actor and actress, its somewhat helping you (a veeeeeeeeery little) tru the 16-ish episode.

music, not the one that keep playing in your brain for a while, but i think its okay

rewatch? i dont think so haha i will be mad

the cast deserve a better story than this, come on. park bo young, so hee uwuwuwuwuwuw

somehow the story telling you how it will end since the beginning, yet the story just spinning arround. wiwuwiwuwiwu i dont know how to get the 500word, but i hope with this veeeery loooooong seentence at the end will hellpp
