On a more positive note, this has probably one of the better OST music I have heard in the few dramas I have watched! It's played a little too much, but I guess that is to be expected when it is so short overall. I also think there may have been some cultural things I missed as well. It must be a "taboo" to like someone who **might** (not spoiling), become your step-sibling even though you're not blood related? I don't know, it just kind of aggravated me because to me I saw nothing innately wrong with it, and that seemed to be like 90% of the problems our 2012 characters have.
Finally, the acting was great though! Yoona and JKS were so cute together at certain points! I would love to watch another drama with them acting together. I do feel like they could have done more of development with the 2012 charters (Joon and Ha Na) though. It felt like less of a romantic relationship in reality where you get to know each other for a while, but instead in this there is a kind of of "instantly falling for someone" thing going on. In any case, I am a just a sucker for a good story and I enjoyed it for a bit of a mental break while I was on a break from school! :) Enjoy!

I just wished the end part was written with more substance or whatever.

I warn you, though, the beginning will feel...slow...even pointless - at least it seemed that way to me. Countless times I thought, "when will they arrive to the present?" But, what you don't notice until the present comes along is how the 70's storyline, somehow, becomes ingrained in your subconscious (or metaphorical heart) and once the story starts to take shape in the present you cannot help but root for the characters from, both, the past and present.
Even the villains have souls...And they are not villains, really. How should I explain it? It is just a little bit of real life. Many will want what they cannot have and either become better people for it or not. It is our choices that shape us and we see how this people just grow, for better or for worse, as they accept (or not) that there are some things in life one cannot and may never possess.
But I'm getting too philosophical here (or whatever). I LOVED the acting. I think that the suspension of disbelief built by the interpretation of the characters made me get more involved in the drama. The theme song is beautiful, and it has been one of the few dramas in which I don't get sick of hearing it episode after episode. Editing is superb, the locations are beautiful, the story - maybe not the most original - but once you put everything else together, you just become lost in this blissful parallel reality.
So, this is why I almost gave it a perfect score. I hope you can give yourself a chance to enjoy it as much as I did.

This review may contain spoilers
Why I watched this drama?I saw that the drama was new and I really like Jang Geun Seok. Due to the good comments and marks for the drama I thought it would be good to watch it (at least the beginning)
After I watched the first/ second episode?
I stopped to watch the drama because I thought it was boring since you already know what will happen between the parents when you read the plot.
Why I continued?
Like I said I like the actor Jang Geun Seok and I hoped that the drama would get better...
In the end?
It's amazing. After the first two/ three episodes I really fell in love with the drama and thee characters.
+
-The cast acts really good. Sometimes you could see that its really only acting but that's not very often
-I really like how they managed two change the looks of the two main leads. And also the difference between the years
-The former main characters appear again (that's not a spoiler since its written in the cast)
-The story may seem familiar etc. but in the end this drama gives a whole new feeling than some others which seem similar
-
-The beginning of the second romance seemed quite rapid
-The episodes of the first romance could have been a little bit shorter (since you know what will happen after reading the plot)
RESULT: I don't think this drama is a must-watch but I think its a great drama and I recommend watching it

Wow!!!!
Omg! That was one of the best romance stories I've ever seen! I don't even want to write a long review. I just want to express how much I loved this. Everything about it was beautiful. Even the parts of the story that annoyed the hell out of me! It had all the up and downs of classic soap opera romance with the depth of writing and directing of a classic film. I ended the series having experienced major high and lows, moments when I cried, moments when I swooned, moments when I laughed hysterically. All the moments and all the feels. What a great experience. I wish I could go back to before I watched it just to watch it with fresh eyes again . I'm not sure why it only has a 7.9 rating because it's a definite 10 for me. Whoever reads this and decided to watch - ENJOY!Was this review helpful to you?
Actually I'm surprised cus I liked the first part of this drama the most... The actors did a great job, the music was so fitting and pleasant for the ear.
If there was not 9.5 option, it would definitely be 10.
So my recommendation for this show is high.

Story
The drama throws you in the 70s in the first 4 episodes. I can't tell i was very excited since i know nothing about Korea in the 70s, but it does a splendid work setting up the atmposphere. Episodes 5-20 fast-foward to 2012.
The main concept of the story is how painful first love can be, and i think, i can safely say, we can all relate at least to a certain extent. That feeling of adversity due to not being able to be with the one you love. It targets questions such us, 'should i put myself and my needs above everyone else and think only of me or put them first and look at the bigger picture?' .The show i think, tells us that being selfish to a certain point is acceptable and ok. In the very end, who will think of our happiness if not us first?
The drama centers 2 romances, 2 couples. First couple is the one from the 70s which.. didn't work back then but their love isn't dead, and the 2nd one is a younger couple in 2012. Plot twist? The younger couple is actually the son and daughter of the older one. Best thing about this drama: the romance.
The main story, even though nothing extraordinary, plays a lot with your feelings, it crawls in that grey area of what is wrong and right, making every decision even more difficult. The romance was satisfying but still i can't say that the drama was intruiging and interesting to watch. On the contrary it was rather boring, tedius and stretched.
Apart from that, it couldn't really decide what it wanted to be, the older couple was from start to finish the main melo plot of the story. The younger couple though... had some very fluffy rom-com scenes that i can understand how people might like them, but i didn't. I signed up for a melodrama and those scenes weren't welcome. The 2nd half of the drama was heavier melo but it was difficult to watch because of the constant back and forth in the script. I think the drama wanted to attract as many viewers as possible but it ended up being inconsistent and unstable.
Funny how many people argued that the older couple had too much screen time. I disagree. The main focus of the drama should have been the older couple, not the younger... It started with them, it was them from the very beginning... sadly the drama not only put them slowly in the secondary seat but even used them as a plot device to keep the younger couple apart. Chemistry wise, i can't say that the young couple had any, while the older one... sparks everywhere.
Moreover, the drama introduced some super irrelevant and borderline annoying secondary characters that brought nothing new to the drama, were just used as comedic relief or just conveniently to fill the episodes to 60 minutes.
Overall the drama was difficult to watch. The combination of tedium and constant melodrama due to miscommunication became old fast. It tried to be overdramatic but funny, while show 2 stories that are entangled and give a happy closure to both. I'm sorry but that was definitely not doable, it tried to do too much in the wrong way. In my opinion, it would have been better if the drama had stayed in the 70s. I found myself many times in later episodes asking for the original story to comeback, it was sincere and beautiful, something that the later episodes failed to maintain.
Acting
First time watching Yoona act, and because of the overwhelming hate i've actually been avoid watching this for over a year. Well, as expected, the hate is unreasonable. Yoona won't be winning any awards for her performance here, but none of the actors will. She was really great on par with everyone else, and to be honest, she was way better than i initially expected. Only error i can point out is her cringy crying, other than that i actually enjoyed watching her a lot.
First time watching Jang Geun Suk too. He was really good, he can definitely act, i wasn't swayed the way i want a male lead to affect me, but his performance was certainly great.
Special mention to my personal favourite who made me shed a lot of tears, Jung Ji Yeong. The man was emotional beyond imagination. I loved him deeply and his beautiful character!
Recommend/Rewatch
This one is difficult to recommend. This is straight up adressed to melodrama-romance fans. If you are a hard-core romantic, you'll like it. Other than that, just move on. Recommended with a grain of salt. I doubt i will ever rewatch this.

The plot was very interesting when I first read it and it was the reason why I was anxiously waiting for this drama. It was very well written. Destiny really does exist and the story has a great moral in it. While watching the drama I learned a lot. IF you truly are meant to be with a person, then no matter what you will be together but if not, then accept it and go on with your life.
Overall, the drama was great and I will surely miss this drama. It was surely an emotional rollercoster ride.

The rest of this drama was also just superb - Geun Seuk and Yoona are terrific actors and they are so cute to watch. I loved the personalities of the young ones more, but I'm glad that the older generation was different and even after 30 years as another actors played In Ha and Yoon Hee - their personalities stayed the same.
The "bad" characters - I'm glad they didn't stay as bad as they tried to be - I like happy endings for eveyone and if their bad actions are explainable a bit at least.
The storyline was masterpiece - I like these kinds of stories.
I loved the music also - it's memorable and sweet. ;)
Acting like I said was terrific - of course, Geun Seuk is my favourite actor so why should I complain.
And I would rewatch many parts of it :)
Anyways, this drama was perfect for me. I would always recommend anyone to watch it. I know that there are different things people value in dramas - but it's certainly watchable and interesting for anyone who likes romantic dramas.

Story: The first 4 eps take place in the 70s and tells the romance/breakup of the couple (who becomes the older couple in the present storyline 2012). I'll tell you the truth, I did find these eps boring and i was ready to drop but i wanted to see what the present story-line would be like. Well ep 5 happened and i was quite surprised by how light everything was and i found myself watching a romantic comedy instead of a melo (i was quite confused). Well i was intrigued for a few eps after that but then things werent really going anywhere and nothing interesting outside of many tears (now i know why its a melo)that most of the characters shed due to the complicated relationships (Parent romance). This can make anyone become tired after watching the same thing for a while. The ending was the best!
Acting/Cast: Jang Gun Suk definitely is a chameleon and can make me believe any role he takes on. I think the girl from Girls Generation did fine (this is the first thing ive seen her in) but she did have the luck of having chemistry with JGS. I do think any other actress her age could have played the same role and probably better. The supporting cast did an amazing job cause i ended up liking most of the side characters.
Music: I loved the score and the OST fit the drama well.
Rewatch: Honestly if the drama didnt have the great casting and the ending that it did, i probably wouldnt want to watch this again.
Overall Love Rain has a plot that might tire you but its definitely a must watch for Jang Gun Suk, the beautiful cinematography, interesting side characters, and great ending.
