Totally different than I expected

I know some people may find this rating too high; I’m not saying it was completely flawless or the best show ever made, but to me subjectively it was perfect and I loved it.

I expected this to be a lighthearted, comedy adventure. It started off being immediately both darker and more emotional than I was prepared for. I was already emotional for Lee Ahn in the first episode, and tearing up for him by the second episode. This show was definitely still cute and quirky and funny in the beginning (and in moments throughout, but the overall tone got way darker.) I love how much Lee Ahn and Jae In’s relationship progressed- it couldn’t start off much worse. Lee Ahn’s phone call, that made him seem like the pervert, was hilariously and perfectly unfortunate.

I loved all the leads of this show, though I know Seung Mo is definitely a controversial character. I was surprised by how dark and twisted this show went with his backstory. When I first watched the ending, I wasn’t sure how to feel about it, but now I think it’s fitting. I think that morally gray characters, that the audience roots for, often surprise us by choosing the good side and being redeemed. But now I’ve kind of come to expect that- so I was pretty shocked with the route they took with Seung Mo. I think we aren’t meant to think he’s “just a monster like his father” though. He may really be a monster, but he feels guilt, and wants to be good...that was my take on it at least.

I think the show managed to create very complex characters that I could analyze forever. Almost never before has such a seemingly lighthearted show impacted me this much. He Is Psychometric ended up being very intense, emotional, philosophical and metaphorical, and I’m so glad I gave it a try.

First of all,I want to start by saying that this has been some of the best acting I've ever seen in kdrama...and then I find out this guy is an idol!My main issue here is that this started as a comedy-fiction show with a bit of romance and a darker back story and episode after episode,I couldn't wait to see what happens next. After about episode 6 things escalated into a sad, really dark mess I wasn't ready to watch...nor was I interested in this instance and therefore I got bored. Also, the main couple was kind of unnecessary to exist in my opinion later on in the series as it only looked cute and believable during their school years.Later on, the main characters seemed more like good friends and this is why the romance felt forced.

If the idol actor stigma is what is keeping you from watching He is Psychometric, I really think you should give it a go and decide for yourself if Park JinYoung and Dasom are able to 100% deliver alongside a well-rounded and experienced cast instead of disappearing into the background (obviously I believe they have done an excellent job). There are also quite a few strong anti-heroes in this drama as well, which was an idea that I thoroughly enjoyed because it really brought more humanity to a story that could have been completely fantastical.

He is Psychometric is slow moving and romance based to begin with but speeds up around halfway once the depth of the relationships between all of the characters has been established. It also somehow manages to maintain its emotional depth despite this sudden plot speed increase. Arguably the romance could have been omitted but we would have likely been left with fickle 2D characters who had revenge as motivation and probably also a six-episode intense crime only drama, irrelevant characters and too many plot-holes - which is made abundantly clear in the final episode that this is not the story the writers wanted to tell.

Plot-wise for me it also became a bit too obvious about halfway what was going to happen next EXCEPT there is one question about Sung Mo that maintained the suspense until the very end.

Overall, the cast, plot and music was all delivered solidly, the messages were portrayed clearly and there left a lot of room for insight and personal interpretation. This team delivered a piece of work with a lead cast of anti-heroes which I really loved.
Music-wise – the music fits well with the drama, no complaints here.
There wasn't much I didn't like.
Would I re-watch it? Probably in around 5-6 years when I want to be reminded of just how differently people deal with their emotional scars.

Oh god my tears. If you guys haven't seen this show yet; you're truly missing out. I kept telling myself I'm done with thriller shows, I'm tired of it freaking me out at night xD HAH; but this is a good one, it has the perfect amount of thriller, perfect amount of romance and just an all well put out story. I like Detective Eun the most; they call her the eye candy detective; I really liked Jinyoung's acting and I adored the chemistry he had with Shin Ye-Eun!!! They were so freaking cute together!!! This show is honestly so good; it's heart racing, heart aching and just a great show all around to watch and I'd be lying if I said you should miss out on it because you shouldn't, I don't know why I waited so long honestly because it's just that good. The acting is fantastic, the music isn't even half that bad and it's easy to just watch. You don't even feel the need to really skip through anything like that. 10/10, Def worth the watch. Still not a huge fan of Kim Kwon but whatevs. Lol.

This drama is hands down The. Best. I loved the cast, I loved the suspense in the scenes, I loved the acting skills, I loved the twists that came along the story line and every outcome. If anyone has watched Criminal Minds (US) then you must watch this drama as well. I have no regrets in watching this drama and I will for sure rewatch it as many times as I want until I become tired of it. I have successfully introduced almost all my friends into watching this drama and all of them have loved it so far. Therefore I RECOMMEND YOU! YES YOU, TO WATCH IT!!!! DO NOT WAIT!!!

One of my favourite dramas

I personally really loved the plot of this drama, and I think that its premise is very interesting. Though some may have seen the ending coming, I did not, and I felt that the ending was very satisfactory. I liked the balance of thriller and romance. I also really liked the acting, and I was surprised at idol Park Jin Young's acting ability, as I felt like he conveyed his character's personality well, and the way his character's experiences had affected him. I also felt that the other actors such as Kwon Kim and Kim Da Som did a very good job at conveying their characters' personalities. The OST is also very good, and I found myself listening to it on repeat for days after finishing the drama.

TLDR, I would recommend because of the great plot and the great acting.

It was fun but

Basically, I liked the characters and the plot, overall. I liked the messages of healing and also of forgiveness you can find in it.
But there were some things here and there that I disliked, like the humour. And the truth is I also simply hated how they dealt with alexithymia. Well, not hate, ok, but let's be clear : this is NOT alexithymia they are showing here. And it kinda makes me angry a bit.

Alexithymia does NOT make you lack empathy, guilt, remorse, whatever. THIS is what ASPD does. Alexithymia has nothing to do with ASPD.
Alexithymia is a disorder where you are unable to identify and express your emotions, with words but also with the right facial expressions. It's nearly impossible to say "I feel THIS", because your feelings are hazy and mixed up and you don't know how to express yourself nor feel comfortable enough to do so. You will more likely say "I think" rather than "I feel", for exemple. You won't express big emotions, yet this does not mean that you are not impacted by them even though you don't actively "feel" them, and this will translate as suffering from some psychosomatic illnesses. People suffering from this disorder usually are not risk takers or impulsive like a person with ASPD would, because with alexithymia you'd rather not be stimulated by anything or anyone and you'd rather not attract attention and be outside of the law like an ASPD person would. You're not going to kill someone impulsively because of alexithymia. You're just not. It does not affect your moral compass and ability to have empathy for other living beings, although you might have trouble understanding other people's emotions just as much as your own.

Wow ok so now that this rant is over, what's left :
Good premise
Some good characters
Good story overall
Good acting
Good pacing (imo)
Interesting relationships and an ok romance (yeah, am not a romance fan so I won't elaborate on that, but it was fine, they were pretty cute)
Pretty dark themes (abuse, trauma)
Important lessons

So yes, this is a good drama. It's entertaining, has lot of emotions, and the ending's pretty good. But this nonsense about alexithymia is just a bit much for me and is why I felt the need to write this review.

boring but good story

●FIRST IMPRESSION
I felt a bit bored so I kind of dropped this at episode 3. after months I picked it up again and it still felt boring, with a budding romance angle because I wanted to see the psychometric power of ML, solving murder cases. So I skipped few scenes and in ep 6 it becomes interesting. when ML tries to uncover his power rather than to avoid it.

●PLOT VIEW
It was written nicely but had few flaws as there were too many flashbacks popping up. I also find this irritating that how each character zoned out once and blamed themselves for the mishap, if it was 1-2 characters then OK but so many saying “this is my fault” was annoying. It then takes a fast pace from the 6th ep and with that one murder case unfolding that how each character's past connection and pains. there were so many layers to one case unfolding so many previous cases showing the corrupted society who are selfish. the ending was good but the last tail of the case was it was like why did writers even come up with that YY angle if it didn't get the law punished.

●ACTING
It was pretty good and I likes Seung Mo and Lee An bromance. They were so natural like real brothers. Lee An goofiness suited Jin Young's face. Yoon Jae In and Eun Ji soo are the type of FL I like to see, strong smart, quick-witted, and fighter.

●MUSIC
"With You"OST is beautiful, obviously because of its English lyrics and subtle music. Others were beautiful too. I kind of liked the spooky BGM giving a ghostly vibe.

●QUOTES
>A person's memory is like a jumbled-up medicine cabinet, whether I pick up poison or an antidote, I can't tell until I swallow it.- Lee An
>He who fights against a monster must be careful not to become one himself. If I look into a monsters soul for too long, its soul will enter me too and see from within - Seung Mo
>We use every possible means to get over our painful experiences. But the scar remains and becomes an unerasable memory. It requires a lot of time to fade away- Lee An

I have seldom watched a drama where I've been this attached to the characters and story. From the acting to the storyline to the characters to the emotions to the suspense and thrill, everything is so good and so well done. The twists and turn throughout the whole show had me on the edge of my seat. The main lead's acting is amazing, just his eyes hols so much emotion. I would recommend this drama to everyone (The number of tears I've shed for this show is embarrassing, especially in episodes 13 and 14).

Was really excited to see ACTOR PARK in action and taking on his first lead role in a 16 episode drama. With the announcement of the relationships of the cast, I did not expect this drama tilt towards the thriller component this much.

I would say the thriller/investigation vs. romance is a 85% to 15%.

The amount of dead bodies, bloody scenes is more than romance. And I would say the psycho portion makes one feels worst. Humans that don't react normally will scare the hell out of you and make you constantly live in fear more than the non-living things does. Reason, you have no idea "what's next".

Towards the end, when everything starts to sync and gave a major throwback. It makes sense but gives loads of goosebumps as a viewer. The impact of the sound effect and OST really make me sit on a emotional roller coaster throughout the drama.

Love how the drama has a little component of "happily ever after" but not everyone deserves that.
Kuddos to the writer.

Hope to see more ACTOR PARK in the future!

so this is a rant because im hella upset
for the drama writer a question you did this for what?
now lets start shall we
first of all this drama on paper is very up my ally shocking twists romance crime and comedy but the wway it was executed was lacking to say the least up until the 7th episode I was having fun the story was fun and easy to follow but then it suddenly switched genres to be only dark with a sprinkle of fun moments that seemed so out of place just brighten the mood but it honestly came out as forced overall it wasnt a bad drama its watchable but very lacking
now lets talk about why im mad shall we first of literally alot of characted were shot stabbed and what not and managed to survive but you killed the detective off for what huh? it wasnt even a tear jerking death it just felt very rushed another one of my reasons to be mad if you watch the last couple of eps youll feel as if you watched the characters go round and round for 10 eps for no reason at all cuz prosecutor kang knew everything all along so why put them in these kinds of situations and make them investigate for whattt? another thing like i mentioned previously i love a twist believe me i do but i refuse to believe that the guy that was smiling in a photobooth and taking care od An literally laughing with him was behind this and stayed silent foe that many years it just felt as if the writers wanted the viewers to be shocked but it honestly didnt feel convincing
on a brighter note I noticed that everyone was prasing jinyoungs acting but honestly for me the second leads stole the show cant wait to see them in other dramas

Coming into the story it was obvious that there was going to be more than just a cutesy love story. Granted it took some turns I could never have imagined, but that made it an even better story.

Jae In and Ji Soo were well written female characters and entirely believable. So many dramas try to dumb down the women, or make them useless outside of a relationship. Here we had not one but two terrifically fleshed out characters, which were supported by other great women!

The music was good but not exceptional. There were no standout songs like I've come to expect from K-dramas, but still felt natural and didn't distract from any scenes.

Also there are no weak players in this series. The younger actors hold their own against the more seasoned actors, and Ji Soo's death was devastating to watch. Everyone involved should be proud of what they accomplished here!
