I have been waiting for the movie since I saw the trailer coz I thought it was some kind of school romance movie with tear jerker in the end and had expected a good one but I was wrong ...there is no romance between the leads at all ....over all the movie is just bland ,... no taste at all sometimes I don”t even understand their dialogues like what they are trying to say ..there”s no plot or whatever ...I can”t even see the real friendship between them ..... I am utterly disappointed....who even thought to film this ...I felt like I just wasted my time

The feelings I’ve hid still remain as a painful secret memory
The photos that can’t define our relationship is a heartbreaking story
I’m sorry, summer, now goodbye
This line somehow interprets the film's plot.
굿바이 썸머 (Goodbye Summer) is about a high school boy deals with his terminal illness decides to live his remaining time back to being a student and falls in love with a girl.
Jung Jae Won known as One and Kim Bora is such indeed a visual pair in this film but too bad it wasn't fleshed out in which they have this little interaction that you can't tell whether they really like each other.
Honestly, this film is not about romance nor neither about the fragrance of youth but a film about a person's life and his perspective towards his surroundings & to the people he interacts with his limited time.
The dialogues are engaged in a humanely way but at the same time incorporating the age of the characters.
There's something dull about this film that is not very engaging.
Back to the song that I mentioned:
The feelings I’ve hid still remain as a painful secret memory
-This depicts Hyun Jae's feelings for Soo Min, he could never say what he really feels thus their memory together is a painful secret memory for Soo Min and Hyun Jae's affection for her will never be known by the world.
The photos that can’t define our relationship is a heartbreaking story
-This line could talk about Hyun Jae's & Soo Min's relationship because they never really knew what each other's feeling; that they can't define what kind of relationship what they had which is a heartbreaking story for the viewers.
I’m sorry, summer, now goodbye
-Hyun Jae making memories with Soo Min on the flashback is a summer story for him that he eventually has to say goodbye.
*contains spoiler* In the final act, there was this moment between Hyun Jae and Soo Min. They are talking inside the classroom, probably Hyun Jae asking her out while Soo Min knew his condition; they have this little talk about selfishness & feeling guilty.
That interaction between them but mostly Soo Min who poured out her emotions somehow gave you an idea that she indeed fell in love with him in the process but for Soo Min, Hyun Jae's actions were taken as being selfish but for Hyun Jae he somehow feels like he asked her out with sincerity of adoration to her.
You can see the two weights of it, Hyun Jae doing what he wants with sincerity but people around him keep reminding him that he needs to think things through because of his limited time while Soo Min has that long term thoughts about what if someday when he's gone, she will suffer by it because she fell in love with Hyun Jae.
Both have different descriptions about love but they felt the same way. It's sad because it never really push to the positive side of falling.
I thought I'm going to cry about this film apparently not; There are just moments of sentimental and hopes that it could have been more but never really expanded especially the climax & conflict.

its not hard to watch ,but it feels so pointless at the end...
like why did all those happen? what was the point of all those conversations and charachters?? its was all too empty for my taste , the characters , especially sumin and jihoon were so selfish. i only liked byeongjae and his existence didnt change anything at the end too. the way it ends was just too open. like I said , i wasnt hard to watch but it was pretty hard to understand , there was no meaning behind anything for me. it just didnt make much sense. the performances were good tho but for what? to create nonsense :(Was this review helpful to you?
Buenisima

For starters, the movie was too short. If they really wanted to present a decent story, it had to be more than an hour. Secondly, the story was just an idea, but there was nothing else to support it. The characters were shallow and the movie didn't present them well. There was no plot and no background to the story. In the end, the only thing that you get to see is the students eating and talking. At least the performances were decent.
So, four out of ten.

Honestly this movie was alright, it was not bad nor was it good I wanted more romance between them, it was sad the fact that the reason why Soo Min rejected him in the first place was because she didn't want to be left alone if he didn't make it through since he's ill. They are both amazing actors and the story would've been more interesting if it was longer and there were more romance between them, if not with episodes also because I like where the story was heading since he would always be visiting the hospital and stuff. I think this was not intended to make the hearts flutter or feel each character's stages of happiness or grief. Their focus was on the choices that people make. One chooses to conceal his malady while the others chose to excuse oneself from pain and escape from an inevitable loss. Such unfavorable acts will likely raise viewers' eyebrows, feel indifferent or disappointed, or maybe, leave some of us heartbroken. It didn't make me bawl, but I felt a sense of guilt, isolation, and heaviness while watching Hyun Jae hear So Min's confession towards the end.
The story may seem incomplete, but to be honest, the story was like experiencing a typical day. It's simple, just unconventional. I guess I came in without expectation, so I was able to brush off the fallacy before its release. But then again, many indie films will always surprise(disappoint) its viewers with an abstract storyline or what the majority will consider weird or plain stupid.

Look at it through a different lens!
Okay, so I went into this movie with the lens of the way I watch other dramas, however, midway through, I had to back pedal, and instead watch from my theatrical lens (as someone who majors in acting). This film asks you to see the story through subtext, indeed it tells the story of death and the aftermath of it. How it affects those around them.Do NOT expect this to be a fluffy school drama, watch it through the subtext and you'll find heart-breaking story in its depths... overall I would rate this lower from an avid Korean drama watcher perspective, but higher from an actor's perspective
To make it make sense to those who may not have picked up on it, it is quite clear that midway Hyeon Jae passes away while walking with the new student, the aftermath is what follows

I don't think I fully understood this movie. The topic was very deep and I think that Goodbye Summer managed to show how a person with a terminal illness would feel but for me the movie seemed rather bland. The characters weren't that interesting to be honest but the acting was nice. The dialogues sometimes felt flat and too deep and philosophical for normal high schoolers.
Though I must say that I really liked the cinematography of this movie, that was really amazing especially the shots of nature were great.

Trop nul

Was this review helpful to you?
