Seija no Koushin (1998)

Both darker human dramas by Nojima Shinji that are difficult to stomach and get through for many. While the plots are different for both, both focus on darkness within people and the aspects of humanity most people would rather look away from. Both have a very similar feeling to them.

A mentally impaired person is targeted and mistreated. Institutionalized people are mistreated. Corruption/abuse of power

They both focus on an intellectually disabled man who is abandoned by his family and sent to work with people who mistreat him.

Both dramas focus on the difficulties an intellectually disabled young man must face when abandoned by his family. Algernon Ni Hanataba O focuses more on romance and teaching life lessons to its characters, while Seija No Koushin is much more gritty in its portrayal of society's discrimination against disabled people.

Both are old school Japanese dramas that tell the story of a learning disabled man who faces discrimination.

Totally different plots, but similar because of the mentally disabled boy featured in Moonlight Jellyfish and his protective brother.
