Gotta be honest - SPOILERS

I will make this review as honest as possible.

First, the story (it gets a 6 from me):
- The story started out great yet it quickly became really messy. The reason why it became messy is because of Wayo, Pha(?) and his new "love" interest. At the beginning, Wayo is heartbroken because Pha left him. Which is okay I guess. It's a new start for Wayo and he'll get a new lover.. or so we thought. Throughout the story we never really learn or get to understand why Pha left and Wayo's supposedly new love interest knows why Pha left Wayo.. yet there has never been a full disclosure. So at the end of the series, we -watchers- know nothing more than we already knew in episode one. And this is only about the side couple!
+ I loved the main couple! Kit and Mark are absolutely my favorite paring in this series. They were lovely, sweet and teasing. The only sad thing about this couple is that after they got together, their screentime started to dissolve. I wanted to see more of Kit and Mark! The story gets a 6 because of this paring! They saved the series.
+/- I also liked the other side couple (don't recall their names sorry). They had chemistry... It's just that some things between them were never resolved. I'd like to see them be the main couple in the next season or series so they can work out their misunderstandings and feelings. I want them to get out of the "I like you but I'm supposed to dislike you" fase.

The acting (gets a 9 from me):
+ The acting was good. I didn't think ALL the actors were great, but I especially loved the actors portraying Kit and Mark (!). They were such a teasing, fun couple to look at. They really portrayed it really well.

The music (gets a 9 from me):
+ The music was good. Not memorable but just suitable.

Rewatch value (gets a 6 from me):
+ I will probably rewatch this series when I'm bored but only for the main couple and for the (lesser known) side couple. I'd love to rewatch KitKat's and Mark's sweetness.
- However, I'd skip through the parts of Wayo and his love interests. 'Cause if it doesn't have a good ending in another season, I'd not want to watch his sad and confusing story again.

Overall I'd give the series a 6.5. If you loved KitKat and Mark in season one like me, I'd recommend you to watch this series. To see them develop. However, if you don't know the characters that well and you're not EXTREMELY bored then I would not recommend the series.

I hope this review helped!

So bad but I'm asking for more

Gen Y offers us what 2Moons 2 could have been if the same actors playing Ming and Kit in 2Moons 1 had acted in it. We have the same actors of Ming and Kit (2 Moons 1) playing the characters, Mark and Kit. (Yes, even the names are a bit of a rip-off.)

The Mark and Kit part of Gen Y is actually fairly decent where BL is concerned -- nothing really exceptional, but it is cute and sweet nonetheless. What I find myself liking even more is Kim and Bas acting as the best friends, Mark and Wayu (the parallels of Ming and Wayo in 2Moons). Kim and Bas work really well as BFFs.

Wayu, if it's not obvious enough by now, is the parallel of Wayo in 2Moons. And his boyfriend at the start of the series is Pha, just like in 2Moons. (The full names differ though the shortened versions of these names are the same or very similar.)

But Gen Y is not merely a ripoff or unofficial sequel to 2Moons 1. It's like 2Moons with a few twists, which are sometimes interesting and sometimes downright bizarre (and perhaps both at times).

For a rather light-hearted series, a couple of characters take a rather sinister turn. Sandee, for instance, seems like a really nice person at first but is given an unnecessarily dark turn later on. The motivations for his actions are vague. The same goes for Pha, who breaks up with Wayu for unknown reasons. There may be extenuating factors in his break-up, but his behavior is either weird or creepy (or perhaps simply badly written): he breaks up with Wayu, but wants to secretly see him and even secretly "spies" on Wayu after Wayu has gotten over the break-up and in the end appears again as though he has the right to ask Wayu to reconcile with him. (Seriously, wtf, dude?)

Wayu, on the other hand, despite his apparent love for Pha, actually gets over him quite easily. It seems that, in this series, that kissing a hot guy would help one get over a sudden breakup with someone one totally loves. Anyway, this is why Wayu shifts his affection to Thanu instead.

Thanu is another fascinating disaster of a character. Perhaps you won't be able to take your eyes off him because the actor playing Thanu looks really good. But, more importantly, you will find it difficult to look away because of incredulity. Have you ever encountered a character who is portrayed as a really nice person and yet inexplicably do things that assholes do?

And perhaps you can't even blame Thanu--just blame his creator, the scriptwriter. Because his creator has decided to endow him with some mystical experiences. He sees a guy once and basically falls in love (ok, this is common in BL, but more is coming). Then one day, he touches the hands of the same guy, and they both have visions of the future, with this guy being hurt (heartbroken) very badly because of him. Wow, magic! But wait a minute. Thanu is also falling in love with Wayu at the same time. He vacillates between the two guys. Surely the destined one should be the one with whom the magical visions take place, you say? No, when he touches Wayu's hand, both of them have flashbacks of the past, which reveal something they don't know. I guess if I have to sum it up, Thanu is basically this good person who inadvertently ends up being an asshole because his creator has overdosed on hallucinogens.

There are also too many characters in this series. I thought Thai BLs of late have started avoiding this, but apparently not. By the end of the series, the series does not even bother to address some of the issues that it has given considerable attention to, such as the problem between Thanu and his ex-good friend, Padbok. (I thought that was an interesting part of the plot, but obviously Thanu's creator had a different idea of what makes a good story.)

Watching Gen Y is like listening to your next-door neighbors quarreling loudly. It can be rather annoying, but you may well find your attention progressively grabbed by what they are shouting about. Then when they suddenly stop, you might find yourself anticipating a continuation.

I feel BAMBOOZLED | SPOILERS

The official trailer for the series would lead you to believe that the show would mostly revolve around Mark/Kit, BUT IT DOESN'T. It's pretty much Wayu and His Stupid Relationship Drama ft. Mark/Kit and friends (which is apparent by the ending of the last episode...trash). We started out focusing on Mark/Kit maybe for an episode or two but then Wayu gets "dumped" and all of a sudden MOST of the interactions between Mark/Kit (EVEN IN PRIVATE) revolve around them babying Wayu and keeping him from having a mental breakdown...ridiculous. The whole show ended up being about Wayu and his problems. Not to mention everyone acting like Wayu is on some higher level of desirability and that anyone interested in him would have to get to HIS level instead of the other way around. I want to punch a wall. Please explain to me why Wayu is supposed to be a good catch; he's not even a good friend. Wayu is a little emotionally manipulative gremlin who stays hung up on his ex. SPOILERS BELOW

PROS: Mark, Phai, and SANDEE (Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome with them cheeks; and he gets an A+ for stirrin' the pot *also, I did not pay any attention to the high school drama*).

CONS: WAYU. Kit rejecting Marks confession to go help Pha (TRASH. Why did they write that?). Wayu's constant need to be in a relationship. Wayu being a crappy friend. The praising of Wayu just because he is pale and skinny even though he brings nothing to the table. The whole Padbok and Thanu situation (campus security doesn't exist??? And his reason for being upset doesn't make sense). The communication majors "banning" the engineers over actions of one person that didn't have anything to do with school...annoying. The writers giving us whiplash over the Thanu/Phai/Wayu situation (A complete, unnecessary, hot mess. And FOR WHAT???). NOT ENOUGH MARK/KIT (They really played us. Should've just listed Mark and Kit as support roles if they were only gonna pay attention to Wayu's storyline).

Tbh I was so disappointed.

Sorry but honestly, I watch this series coz of KimCop. Like them in 2moons as MingKit and kinda wish they have their own story so I was so looking forward to this series. I was hoping that this series will revolve around them as the main characters but I was so freaking disappointed that it wasn't. This series mostly focus on Wayu and his P'Pha like duhh seriously? They already have their own spotlight in the 2moons so can't they just like let this series be focusing on MarkKit more? There are times in some episodes that i think Mark's airtime is like few minutes only in the whole episode coz they are focusing on Wayu's story that much. It got me thinking that this is like 2moons all over again, so i decided to drop this series. It's a shame tho coz i really like seeing MarkKit together. Such an eye candy but i can't say the same about Wayu tho.

What a good start

The only reason why I watch this was for KimCop. Their scenes were my favourites. But why do you have to do that to the show. They crammed too much problems that I keep forgetting. Some shows does have too much happening at the same time but I can still understand.

Firstly, KimCop. Their relationship and everything is what would technically happen in every show but it was still different to others?
Wayu and Thanu, their relationship made me want to give up the show. And not forgetting Thanu and Phai, their whole relationship made me worry about Wayu's and Thanu's relationship. (I don’t really like love-triangles)
There was this other relationship of Pok and Tong. I feel like that would be a good show if it wasn't in Gen Y. They really need their own show.

I dropped the show, because of Wayu, Thanu and Phai. It would be easier if their relationship was just Wayu and Thanu or Thanu and Phai. If it was Thanu and Phai then I would be okay. And Wayu can become independent or find someone else. I mean all I found Wayu doing was fainting or falling and needing assistance most of the time.

Would I recommend? Sure, if you can handle multiple problems at the same time and have low expectations.

One of my faves

I've seen people say it before, but they're right: if you watched 2Moons and liked the cast, then you're gonna L O V E Gen Y.
However, if you didn't it doesn't matter. There are some references to 2Moons, but you'll still understand everything even if you didn't watch it AND you'll love the cast, I promise.
This is one of those dramas that, when I finish each ep, I get a warm feeling in my chest. It's quite soft and funny, the levels of toxic topics (homophobic comments, etc) are reeeeally low compared to basically any drama I've watched, and the cast is just too adorbs. They're giving us all the cute scenes we could've had with MingKit in 2Moons s1 but with MarkKit and I love it. Also, not knowing what tf is going on with the secondary couples? I love it. It's fun to try and guess who's gonna end up with who instead of knowing things from the very beginning. Really, amazing.

Chemistry!! MarkKit!

I am loving this so far! (I've just finished ep. 6 from last night) Mark is my fav - love his character personality, attitude, strong sense of self, confidence, style, teasing, etc. He's so cleverly flirty & not in an obnoxious way. The tension b/w Mark & Kit is great too. Kit is very fiesty & I love it. I'm dyinnng for them to get together b/c that episode's gonna be amazing. Mark at the end of Ep. 6 had me crying at like 2 in the morning.

I really dislike when BL characters are so unevenly matched (e.g. Pai-Itt; HIStory 3) so I'm really glad Gen Y paired the cast so well -both appearance & personality. The story progression & storyline transitions are smooth & well connected (one of my issues w/ TT2) so it doesn't fell choppy or underdeveloped. Stylists did well with hair too - no cringe "child" hair /clothes on college-age characters. I also dislike that trope where one of the ML's is a "meek pushover who acts like/ is treated like a young child even though he's in college." Gen Y has not had that (Neither have the dramas I listed below).

It's entertaining never knowing what Mark is gonna do next other than it will likely involve hardcore flirting with Kit. Characters are supportive friends to each other & their larger friend group/siblings. Sab, Mark, & cafe boys are our matchmakers; Yu is even shipping the two competitors for his side, Koh & Jack, together - and I agree with him. I've already rewatched a few of the Mark-Kit scenes while waiting for new episodes & will continue to do so.

*For those of you who watched 2 Moons, Gen Y is your 2nd chance at MingKit but 100x greater.
*Other equal footing pairings are: TharnType, KornKnock, FighterTutor, SaifaiZon, Mr. Heart, Oxygen the Series, PeteKao, PureFolk, Love by Chances, My Engineer, BadBuddy
*I've only not given more 10s b/c I've not finished the drama yet.

A great show, until it wasn't

I'd like to start this by saying I haven't seen 2Moons so I went into this show blind.

This show very quickly became a comfort show to me. The actors portrayed their characters perfectly, the characters were nicely written, plus the actors were attractive. It started as a cute, fluffy romance and I was in love.
My heart broke along with Wayu every time he got hurt, my heart fluttered with Kit whenever Mark hit on him - which I must admit, was very annoying at first.

However, the show started going downhill the moment it started adding more characters.

I'm gonna talk about the characters and the relationship first, then I shall talk about the pacing and the finale.

I thoroughly enjoyed MarkKit as the main couple. Their characters are brilliantly written, they have a healthy relationship which is great to see on screen. Mark actually respects consent and doesn't do anything to a drunken Kit even though he wants to. Plus the actors have *incredible* chemistry. Their relationship blossomed at a steady rate, it wasn't too quick but it wasn't too slow. It felt earned, and as a viewer, it was satisfying to watch. Unfortunately, this couple seemed to be shoved to the sidelines as soon as they established a relationship in order to make room for the love triangle. For a series supposedly dedicated to this couple, they got the bare minimum of screen time.

As for the secondary couple, well...it's complicated. Wayu is a marvellous character. They wrote him with just enough flaws to make him human yet still allowing him to be a cute angel. He did not deserve the pain he went through this season. I was constantly ready to throw hands at Pha. I loved his character development as he gradually recovered from his breakup - especially his subtle hairstyle change. If I'm honest, I would rather Wayu have stayed single. I think it would've benefitted the plot if Thanu wasn't interested in him and it was just Jack and Koh chasing him (only to become lovers later)
This whole love triangle was really annoying. They spent so long of the show building up this destiny plot point between Thanu and Phai yet it was completely disregarded in the final episode because "Wayu depends on me" or some nonsense like that. The love triangle did make the plot more interesting - however, it also made the plot too crowded. There were too many romances going on at once that this one was too much. I can understand why Thanu did chose Wayu, but what was the point in these supernatural visions of the future if Phai and Thanu weren't destined? It complicated the plot.

Now for the side characters.

Jack and Koh...So much potential wasted. Why did the writers think this battle for Wayu was funny? It was annoying. After all these complicated relationship plots, I did not need 2 more characters chasing Wayu. I needed a breather. As I said, it was wasted. I really wish they had got these two together so it didn't feel like a waste of time. They kept hinting that there was some romance between these two, but they were disregarded once Wayu found Thanu. Also, WHY WAS MARK ENCOURAGING IT?! Like dude, it's making your best friend uncomfortable, ESPECIALLY after a breakup, you should not be encouraging this type of behaviour no matter how concerned you are for your friend.

I don't even know where to begin with this next bit. Sab, Sandee, Pok and Tong...I have no idea what went on with this lot. I liked the coffee shop plot point. It was cute, I just wished they had continued it further into the series. As for the other characters, it felt like they had been brought together just for the sake of adding more characters. Their story was too complicated for me to keep up. One minute, they're best friends, the next, they're betraying each other. And don't get me started on the toxicity between Pok and Tong. How did the writers let this slide? They tried to hint at s$xual tension between the two every time they're on screen. Which is ok, I felt uncomfortable because they're like 16-18 years old, but it's legal. It kind of worked. It just didn't feel right. The two hated each other. No; they loathed each other. So why were they so attracted to each other? The writers never explored this, creating holes in their plot. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THEIR S$X SCENE. It wasn't even a s$x scene, it was r@pe. Pok was drunk. I don't care if he was the top and was willingly participating, he was drunk. It is not ok and SHOULD NOT BE ROMANTISIZED.

So something I didn't quite understand was the confrontation between Thanu and Padbok. Maybe I missed something, but I don't understand how they went from friends to enemies or why Jack is friends with Padbok but also Thanu and Wayu.

Ok so let's talk about pacing.

I feel like this is something that Thai dramas often struggle with - and this one is one of the worst victims of bad pacing. Firstly, there were too many plotlines happening at one time that it crowded the show and didn't allow for each point to be properly explored. As I said earlier, I think some of the relationships should've been scrapped or left for a season 2.
I also found that the pacing of the episodes was bad. It's hard to explain, but so much yet so little happened in one episode that it felt very tiring to watch. I found that all of the action and plot events happened in large chunks spread throughout the episode, which were glued together by slower, less significant scenes such as product placement, visits to the Community Arts Department or the group of younger kids (Sab, Sandee, Phai etc). I found that the episodes got boring and dragged. I found myself thinking "How long is left? ANOTHER 40 MINUTES?! But so much has happened!" It made 1-hour episodes feel like 5 hours.

Finally, the finale.

This finale wasn't it. There was such a huge build-up in the episodes before, that it was hugely disappointing and anticlimactic. The majority of this episode felt like a filler for the finale. Nothing was resolved, if anything, more problems were created. Nothing felt satisfying for a finale. No puzzle pieces fit together.
So...the big reveal. I didn't like it. It was very predictable but I still didn't like it. I don't want to bash the actor's appearance, but I was lead to believe that Pha was a more handsome, mature figure. I expected him to look like Earth if I'm honest. I wanted Pha to look like a leader-type figure because then it would feed into the question of "Why did he leave Wayu with no explanation if he was so good of a person?".

This entire show - but the finale especially - feel like it was made in a few weeks. I heard it was a fanfiction of 2Moons, which explains why. It just needed more thinking so that plot points were spread out and the characters were developed better.

I expected worse but it could have been better

The scenario is not very dense but the series is unpretentious so it's not too embarrassing. The real problem is the slowness of the show which ruins everything. Moreover, there are too many characters and above all, the interaction between Kit and Mark is not credible for a second even if the 2 actors are at their best: their relationship is stuck in a childish beyond reality. Who is going to make us believe that 2 guys around 20 behave like 13 year old teenagers ? This modesty misplaced in the numerous (no) sex scenes does not make sense...
In reality, the childishness takes too much place in all the series, too bad ! The positive point is that we want to know the continuation and especially that Thanu realizes (it's my wish, I don't know if it will come true!) that he has a real crush for Pai and for nobody else (everybody will hate me when reading this HAHAHA).
Oh, let's hope they stop in season 2 with these permanent sound effects when people talk! It's unbearable and so old-fashioned.

A Total Letdown

Honestly, this show started pretty well and it was ruined from the middle to the ending. First of all, for a season dedicated to Mark and Kit, we saw them very little. Instead, we got stuck with the unnecessary scenes and storyline of the kids and the unresolved truth about Pha.

I get that the actor who originally played Pha withdrew from the show but did we really need that storyline? I know that changing the actors for a character might be bad but I would definitely prefer if they had gone with a different actor. Who really cares? We saw a different actor as Pha at the end but he's not what I expected to be honest. I'm not saying he's not attractive or anything but it seemed like he was too old to be Pha. And the big reveal wasn't even shocking. I guessed that Pha will come back eventually since he was neither dead nor in a bloody coma. (I would prefer the coma thing btw at least we would have an explanation about him)

The fantasy element was just outrageous. Did we even need it? The scenes of Mark and Kit were the best. I wish they had been longer. I felt like they had really good chemistry, but, IMO, it was wasted with unnecessary sub-plots. Wayu and Thanu were just a bad match I think. It would be better if we saw a heartbroken Wayu dumped by Pha and just tries to overcome his sadness. But instead, he went on to be with someone who is obviously a horrible person, considering his treatment of Phai and how he changed his mind so quickly about whom he liked.

Overall, the nonsensical fantasy thing and Pha's story made a very negative impact on me, so I gave the story 5 ratings. The acting and music were good and maybe I would rewatch but only Mark and Kit's scenes, they saved the show. Apart from that, nothing else is worth remembering.

It could have been a 10....but

If it were only for Mark and Kit alone, I would totally rate this 10/10! I mean their chemistry is awesome, they are sweet and such a cute couple. They are what made this BL bearable to watch

I pretty much FF the rest of them as the stories are all over the place, messy, and don't even get me started at the loose ends. even if there's season 2, I feel season 1 should still have some sort of neat ending to it

this is just a complete mess, it started really great actually, and just went downhill...

If you love Mark and Kit, sure, just watch it for the this couple, their love scene are worth it, its SO sweet! But, the rest are worth skipping, you won't miss much, but would save lots of time and pain!
