Drifting is the art of getting cars around corners as quickly as possible through controlled skidding. Mount Akina's tortuous hairpin bends and perilous drops make it a formidable test for even the professional street racers, but the fastest driver of them all is Takumi, who has been delivering tofu for his father down that route every night since he was 13. Street-racing gangs hear of a "Racing God" and turn up to challenge him, but he only has eyes for his worthless (and underwritten) girlfriend - until his friends and his alcoholic father can trigger his competitive streak. This movie is about 'Takumi' who is a normal high school student who started driving when he was just 13 because he delivers tofu every morning to hotels with his dad's AE86. But he just recently got his license a few days ago. He also works a part time job at a gas station. Takumi lives with his father who is a drunk and is known as the "god of Mt. Akina" as a racer. One day, Takumi was doing one of his regular delivery until he passed a street racer and the racer tries to race him but he lost. Since then, every one wants to race with Takumi. What makes it more interesting is that they are racing an AE86 comparing to the modern faster cars!
I'm a girl myself and enjoyed watching this movie. So it's surprising that it kept me watching this movie all to the end even though I know nothing about racing and about cars. This movie has it's own paced and you get in to it really easily. It really is a really original feeling and it is really enjoyable to watch it. & it seemed like jay chou didnt have any sense or feeling to it or that he didn't show much expression to it. But I'll get to that point later. Overall, I do recommend people to give this a shot.
After watching this movie, I decided to watch the anime. & boy, I was surprised. The anime is by far better than the movie. I was even shocked that it got me this much interested. Like I said, I am a girl watching a car racing movie/drama, so I didn't know anything. But you can learn alot of racing in the anime and movie. & like what I said above about jay chou's acting, the anime's character was expression less and a little less smart, his acting was exactly like the anime, and I was pleased that jay chou acted that way. & so, If you checked out the movie, I really recommend the anime after watching the movie because it goes more into the depth of the character and story. & if you haven't checked out the movie yet and not plan to, you should still check on the anime for the first or two episodes.
Yeah, I'm going a little far on the anime, but it is really good and so is the movie. & Initial D (LIVE ACTION) needs to have a part two. & I'm anticipating on it. Definitely worth watching.

That was interesting!!!
I got curious and checked out this movie because I always find sporty car looks chic and cool lol. I always like to imagine how awesome it would be to drive one, and how fast I can go :).Well I checked this movie out, and it was nice to see the drifting scenes and how they make drifting looks so effortless. The roads in the mountains look pretty cool to drive cars on too lol.
Anyways, our MC Takumi lives with his father, Bunta and he also works at the gas station. He once delivered tofu for his father on the popular mountain roads, and that is where he gradually learns how to drift and drive fast on that mountain. Then he once crossed paths with Takeshi, who is one of the street racer team leaders. Takeshi took an interest in Takumi and seek him out. Once Takumi makes aware of who he is, he starts to set out to race with Takeshi and Ryousuke (who is another street racer leader-aka Edison's Chen character); and then Takumi races with this "professional" guy and he won.
Takumi also has a childhood girl that he likes, and they soon began dating. Then, Takumi friend's saw that his gf went to a love motel and is a cheap person. Well, Takumi just left his gf without hearing her side of the story. That was shitty because she must have her reasons why!!!??? I think the plot did her character dirty by not giving a reason why she ditched him.
Well, Takumi broke up and then he join Ryousuke's team. The End.
Love the drifting shots; if you're into drifting, and the cars are pretty cool too....Watch this movie :).
