Starting this review with a warning for anyone expecting this to be a romance drama, it is not. Yes, there is romance but somehow the overall feel is more of a melodrama. Fair Xing and Allen Ren did well. Fair Xing continues to show depth in acting. Allen did well even though the character he portrayed had a limited range of emotions. The second leads were okay along with the rest of the cast. I am not a fan of the story as I couldn't really get into the concept of a mechanical heart so I got bored sometimes and dragging on to 36 episodes did not help. Also, some blatant product placements were annoying. The ending, although a happy one, having a 3 year time jump to wrap things up was rushed for my taste. On the positive side, I absolutely loved the cinematography on this one. Shots were crisp and well framed. Locations were pretty. No annoying dubbing. The OST is nice. I admit being a bit disappointed with this drama but on my fault having unrealistic and high expectations coming from my enjoyment of My Little Happiness which is a different genre in my opinion. Overall, watch this if you don't mind melodrama.

One of the best Chinese dramas this year with many life lessons.

A light, heartwarming drama with an interesting and unique storyline in a sense that I have not seen anything like it before. The concept of installing and replacing a real human heart with a mechanical heart in order to live like a normal person has piqued my interest for this drama.

Allen Ren did an excellent job portraying Gu Chuan, with his amazing facial expressions, from the way he smiles to his soft-husky voice, which made him even more attractive. Meanwhile, Xing Fei did justice to her role as Jiang Xiao Ning in her performance. Her acting was incredible, and the way she cried in each heartbreaking scene made me cry like a baby. So far, I believe this is her best and most challenging character. Speaking of their chemistry, they didn't need a kiss or any other clingy scenes to show it; it was simply "too good."

This drama taught us to look for the beauty and positivities in life despite of the bad lucks that we've been experiencing. It also
allows us to feel someone's dark life: how hard and painful it is to live a life constantly reminding oneself of a death. This drama proves that with love, there is nothing that we cannot do. No matter how hopeless and dark your life is, there will always be a person who can give a ray of sunshine in your life.

Overall, this drama was beautifully made and worth watching for many reasons.

Plenty of fillers for a story that needed only 20 episodes instead of 36

The issue I had with One and Only was the lack of believable chemistry between Ren Jia Lun and his female co-star, not to say he's a bad actor but he's simply unconvincing as a love interest.
Sadly, that is the same grievance I have with Miss Crow With Mr. Lizard. Funny enough, he had more chemistry with the second male lead than he did with the FL which is disappointing because Xing Fei, IMO, is an actress who actually knows her craft and she completely embodied the lovable, tenacious but naive Jiang Xiao Ning.
So, having read some reviews today, my understanding is that Ren Lun is married and his contracts stipulate there be minimal to zero intimate acts like hugging or kissing; they even have a stand-in for when those sorts of scenes are unavoidable.

How then can an actor in a modern romance truly separate his real-life persona if he's constantly on guard to not inadvertently make it seem as if he's romantically interested in his on-screen co-star? Look, I don't need on-screen kissing or hugging because there's so much that can be done with stares and subtle body language. A good example is Li Hong Yi's flirtatious performance in Love Better Than Immortality which nearly melted our screens. All Li Hong Yi did in the first half of LBTI was stare at Zhao Lusi and I swear I could feel the tension between them. THAT is how you do non-tactile acting. Not this forlorn, detached look that Ren Jia Lun has in all his romance dramas.

at least I’m entertained.

firstly, I don’t watch modern cdramas. watched this because I’m currently going through Allen’s list of dramas and because I’ve watched Burning Flames and wasn’t a fan of the CP there, I wish to see how their chemistry fares.

main leads have good chemistry. however second main leads were amazing! love them and every of their scenes made me laughed out loud. at the end, her confession made me cry and touched.

storyline wise, it was ok until I reached around ep30ish when story started to drag, especially Xiao Ning’s parents and the embezzlement issue. it lingers in the background for too long that I lost interest in those scenes.

the scenes between Chuan and Xiao Ning after they got together, also felt too long and dragged. this series should either be a 24 or 30 episodes long.

about the mechanical heart. I mean I don’t get it. the main doctor is gone and the assistant have no materials to refer how to update the heart? then in the end, she established her own research team and they able to salvage all this mess? sorry, this sounds so fairytale like. I wouldn’t want Chuan to die because it defeats the purpose. at least, they should spend some of the scenes focusing how they able to save him or something.

acting wise. Xing fei, I don’t know what happened to her in Burning Flames but she’s very likeable here. her cheerful and bubbly character won me over.

Allen. I think after bingeing 3 shows from him, I’ve grown accustomed to his line delivery. his name here Chuan, can also panting or gasp for breath. lol, how irony. it’s funny that as much as I’m not satisfied with his delivery, I just like how he delivers his image of Gu Chuan.

I loved this drama more than I can even say.

While it dabbles in tropes, it really is just dabbling. The love rivals never even really get started. Gu Chuan effectively puts an end to the "other" girl in love with him instead of just letting her continue to create jealous problems. In effect, he fires her. After watching the insanity that was "Sunshine of My Life," I was amazed that there was a ML out there who could actually tell the "other" woman, "No, I'm never loving you and I'm actually letting you go because you're creating mayhem." Not word for word, obviously. But that was a favorite moment of mine. Not because I hated Su Man Lin, but because she needed to move on.

His parents were awesome because they loved Jiang Xiao Ning. Wow, that's rare, because usually one of the parents always has some sort of girl lined up for their boy and nobody else will do. So I loved that they just wanted him to be happy and supported his relationship with Jian Xiao Ning.

The secondary couple and the main couple's best friends were AWESOME. Love Chloe Zhao and Wayne Liu. They were truly a great match romantically and as best friends to the leads, Gu Chuan and Jiang Xiao Ning. I find that a lot of "best friends" end up as challengers for the love of either the ML or the FL. And I hate that. Not so here. Yan Yan was in support of Xiao Ning from start to finish. And Cheng Ran is undeniably my favorite best friend for the male lead as of now. Supportive, compassionate, somewhat silly, and unfalteringly loyal. He's what best friends are supposed to be but seldom are.

Then of course we have our amazing leads, Allen Ren and Fair Xing. OH MY GOSH, such delightful, sparking, lively chemistry, and all done without having to kiss each other on the lips. No, the leads never kiss, deal with it and move on. The kissing wasn't needed. And honestly, if the rumors are true and Allen Ren doesn't kiss anyone other than his wife, then that endears him to me. And I support him in that choice. If it was because he was getting over a nasty bout of sickness, that's his choice too. But regardless, their chemistry sparkled so brilliantly anyway, they were just so cute to watch. Fair Xing really impressed me in her role here as Jiang Xiao Ning. I already liked her before, but she pulled out all the stops here.

I'm only giving the "story" 9 stars because I do feel it wrapped things up conveniently at the end. It could have been done better so I was a little disappointed at how quickly it ended. But I can deal with that disappointment. It doesn't affect my overall rating of "Miss Crow with Mr. Lizard," and I know that I will definitely rewatch it as soon as possible.

All the things that sometimes annoy me in Cdramas were either so mild as to not bother me or they just didn't happen at all. Maybe it was the science fiction element of his mechanical heart that I loved so much or maybe it's just the charm of the actors and the setting, I don't know. But for me, everything lined up perfectly and "Miss Crow with Mr. Lizard" is now my favorite Chinese drama, having miraculously unseated "The Brightest Star in the Sky."

Good until episode 28

The premise of the story is interesting, I watched it because I thought it would be different, but I was forced to finish it because I had already invested a lot of time in watching it.
I like the way the main characters' relationship develops, but it's not worth 36 episodes. Too many loose ends in the subplots, or am I the one who gave up and didn't pay attention...
Kinda disappointed with the final. I think that a sad ending would be more appropriate, given the overall story. I know that everyone wants a happy end, but me and my friend agreed that this series last 6 episodes was kinda wasted.
I don't like it when the story is purposely made to make the protagonists' union seem more deserved and earned. At least make it a short story, don't drag it out for 36 episodes.
And one more thing, the way ML's best friend humiliates himself for the girl is revolting, I almost stopped watching this series seeing the way he was acting.

rushed ending which made it all bad

it started out really good, and it was pretty cool with all the sci-fi thing considering that his heart is a robotic (?) one, and it was really funny and all!!! but i lost interest around ep 24 onwards, it isn’t dragging but I felt like the built-up wasn’t strong???

they honestly should have played with the fact that she’s kind of the reason to his situation & build that up but it just happened like “okay hi, okay now bye” kind of thing and it gets sooo disappointing

and then I was sooo looking forward to how the bad guys will be taken down & how it would have affected the friendships & how they’ll overcome it tgt etc. but it’s another rushed through scenes

NOT the ending being (a few years later, he’s awake with a healthy heart, the end)

I was so disappointed bc the plot had so much potential but it wasn’t portrayed well at all

A Strong Start

ROMANCE
I came into this drama liking xing fei and allen ren invidually and i really liked them together as well. I was not a big fan of the secondary couple for some reason as i just couldnt get interested in their storyline. if you are able to get into the secondary couple, that's a big score for you because they seem pretty cute and they have some good kissing scenes. Because the ML's character has a robotic heart and has to monitor his heartbeat, the ML and FL aren't allowed to be doing "steamy" stuff that will raise his heartbeat, so sadly the FL and ML don't have any steamy kisses in this drama. They have some very cute peck on the cheeks tho!

OST
I love this drama's ost omg. just playing certain songs during a scene montage will immediately get you in the feels just because of how amazing the ost is. even if a scene isnt that touching for a viewer, the song will definitely get you in the sentimental mood.

PACING
The drama definitely started off really strong, faltered in the middle, got better nearing the end, and then the ending was satisfactory, but was also rushed. However many cdramas face the rushed-ending-plague, and in the realm of rushed cdrama endings, this got the better end of the stick. (so dont let a rushed ending deter you from watching this, it's still a happy ending that is wrapped up decently).

conflicted feeling with the ending

Watch this because xing fei & Allen Ren combined together.

Really interesting with the idea behind this drama. Imagine our heart can be replace with mechanic, very interesting right. Really hope in the future this can become reality so we don't need to wait for organ donor anymore for those who really need it. But will it really like this drama, mechanic heart mean robot heart....? If that the reality I don't know better develop it or not.

I more like our second lead couple Xu Cheng Ran (CR) & Zhao Yan (ZY) than our main couple Gu Chuan (GC) & Jiang Xiao Ning (XN). Really like the characteristic of CR, he is really one honest person, honest to himself & everything else & definitely one of the best 'brother' a man can hope for :).

Like ChineseDramaFan wrote in her/his review, Yeah Allen ren definitely fit for the role of GC. His 'sour' face really fit with GC character, who at first and several last episode didn't have any expression.

Really like the optimistic of XN. Even though many misfortune come to her life, keeping the smile & optimism is sometimes difficult. But XN did it & her optimism sure is contagious to everyone around her, include GC who at first very pessimist with his life.

For you who don't like break up & get back together over one stupid / selfish reason better go far2 away from this drama. Like many other character in the drama, when you face with terminal dead what will you choose, GC choose to get as far away as possible from XN by breaking up with her, so when his time come XN will not that sad. Of course XN finally understand that & they get back together. Stupid right...?!

The ending really give me conflicted feeling. Sometimes in my opinion sad ending is a better in the drama than the happy ending. Yeah I know none of us like to see sad ending in our drama. But if that make the drama better, why not. And this drama is one of the drama that in my opinion better have sad ending or maybe open ending. Because the ending really really unsatisfied for me. Really want to write the full ending here, but I don't want to much revealing & ruined the ending for you who still wonder about the ending. For you who want to know just message me.

Overall: one good drama that fill my days with laughter & tears. But no I won't re-watch this drama.

It Is Mr. Lizard and Miss Crow Great Story

Allen Ren has been one of my favorite actor and I started to watch this drama and found out that Fair Xing is the actress that plays the lead character. I knew this was going to be good. I just had finish "my little Happiness" which I loved. This drama has everything you want. A cute and funny start between the main characters. A great romantic love story for both the main leads and the second leads which I love also. The story has a mystery, they met years before, good friendship, and loyalty among the couples. There is a scientific story with the lead male character and the great support of the lead female character and the second lead characters. The story is well written and the way the story progresses from beginning to end. Since I started this drama every episode makes me consume and I can't wait to the next episode. I hate that is over and would like the story to continue. A must watch. love it.

Love this

At first, I was just looking around for new drama. and I came across this drama and I personally watched a few drama from Fair Xing previously, so I gave it a try. turns out to be good. And from this drama, I get to know Allen ren. I must say his acting is good! Nice ost too. even though the storyline is about mechanical heart which not easy to relate. It is a simple, light, heart warming series. You guys can give it a try too!
