A GUILTY PLEASURE NO ONE WILL ADMIT TO.

How do I explain My Day? A perfect storm, a chaotic mess that keeps you coming back for more like the series is just all over the place that it makes it super interesting, I mean the fact that it has an 8-star rating generally and I am giving it a 6.5 despite everything should tell you enough.

On to my review, I will first start by saying if you come to My Day with expectations of Oscar level acting and scenes, then you will be disappointed, annoyed, and disgusted. But if you have an open mind you will actually come to enjoy this so much. BTW, gmmtv have NOTHING on oxinfilms in terms of sliding in advertisements, like in fact, gmm can learn from oxinfilms, lol. When I was watching My Day I was watching 17 other ongoing BLs weekly, yet out of the 17, My Day, Gaya Sa Pelikula, and Still 2gether kept me excited for the next week's episode. PLUS EPISODE 8, IT HITS YOU OUT OF NOWHERE, OMG

I am going to be reviewing this as episodes 1 to 3, then 4 upwards because I warn you now, 1 to 3 have been some of the worst episodes I have watched in a BL or series, by episode 4, they step up their game a bit and by episode 5, you have hit some good stuff.

NOTE; Some shows are just to be enjoyed, not necessarily analyzed, discerned, methodically detailed, or examined for ultimate correctness. Sometimes, a show is just for a little humor, laugh, and entertainment. I totally agree that this series is "campy," a little "off-beat," and possibly somewhat politically incorrect at times. But, it does have some "heart," and an occasional "feel good" moment

EPISODES 1 TO 3

Episodes 1 to 3 are just plain chaotic, weird and happens so fast you get whiplash. Like the scene where Sky was begging Ace for a job or how fast Ace suddenly went from mean and terrible to cute and fluffy with Sky. Like then the driving scene and restaurant scene were just......... To summarize it all, episodes 1 to 3 will make you want to lose your mind

EPISODE 4 BEYOND

It's not like I am saying after episode 3 you will start getting perfect episodes, but the series gets better and more enjoyable there is still some cringe here and there but overall, it does not take away from the fun of the series. So the thing about My Day is more of the story of 2 people falling madly in love, giving us the gay version of romcoms and Disney movies per se, than being a story with a specific storyline, like struggling with sexuality or family or any of that. It's meant to be about Sky and Ace Tan getting together, I mean there is the layer of Ace's dad being the worst and a homophobe but it is not the focus of the series, the series is about them falling in love mainly.

There were parts that were like loud and obnoxious but like they are ultimately okay, sometimes their acting was sport on and good, then other times, you would be so perplexed by the acting, as their facial expressions, expressing emotions and tonations were just kinda bad.

There are parts that were like the scene draws out or a part that is so unnecessary to the story but like I don't mind them, anything to make an episode longer is worth it cause I didn't want them to end, like Moira and the entire dog kidnapping scene was such a waste of time but I mean it gave us Sylean insulting Moira savagely, lol.

EPISODE 8
The blessed episode, they sealed themselves in the league of MaxTul, MewGulf, and SaintZee... Like everyone that watched that episode thought that was the ending after the fireworks, then BOOM, they hit us in the face, like Woah Ohh.

Episode 11
Episode 11 so far has been one of the best episodes in terms of control of everything, emotions, acting everything as a whole, like I never expected to feel pain in My Day but episode 11 did that, but the ending confused me a little I won't lie but it wasn't bad or anything

OVERALL.
I love the chemistry between the actors, they go so well together and their ever-present sexual innuendos made it so much better. They were cute and fun, easy-going and a nice way to relax, like episode 6 'dry and wet' remarks or the 'he is used to big ones' or 7 and the reference to 'prove to me you are the top' and all the Sky is the top chant. I loved seeing them on my screen. I mean there was the acting misses but ultimately it was an okay series

Miss Becky was a guilty pleasure, lol, I stan her.

Then also the music is kinda great like I got a few songs from the series so far.

the found it in was interesting like Banana Ketchup or Yam Flavoured Ice Cream or Yam Bread. it picked my interest in trying food from the Philippines

My Day (2020): A Messy Yet Popular Pinoy BL Series

“My Day” isn’t for everyone. There are those who hate the series and there are those who like it. It was campy, it was farcical. Actually, it was a mess. And yet, because of the exciting chemistry between the lead actors and the exquisite kissing and making love scenes, “My Day” has become one of the most popular Filipino (Pinoy) boys’ love (BL) series worldwide.

“My Day” had a formulaic plot/storyline revolving around the love story of Sky, a determined culinary arts intern and his demanding food company boss named Ace. The overused enemies to lovers trope, rich and poor/middle class characters falling in love with each other trope, and Freudian excuse trope were employed on this series. “My Day” tried to show how the two boys struggled with and triumphed over personal and relational challenges. Ace had his daddy and mommy issues while Sky had his gender identity and sexual orientation questions. But among the many problems of this series were depictions of crude characterizations and ludicrously improbable situations. There were stereotypical portrayals of a bitchy (ex-)girlfriend and comic relief effeminate gays. Other than the sexist explanation that she’s a bitch, no character background was provided to help explain Moira’s criminal behavior. As for the gays, the issue was that they were limited to being a comic relief without character depth. An example of an unconvincing situation was the entire dognapping fiasco which was ridiculous and silly. There were abrupt character changes and illogical character developments. These were especially true for Ace, Ace’s father, Sky’s bully classmates, Moira, etc. There were no proper build-ups. Relationship developments, including those of Ace and Sky, Ace and his father, Ace and his mother, Sky and his father, etc., were also rushed.

Screenplay had cringy, long, repetitive, and unrealistic lines. There were also some objectionable dialogues (e.g. Jelai flirting with Jam that bordered on sexual harassment, Jelai castigating Marianne for wearing short skirt, etc.). But I do commend “My Day” for showcasing Filipino languages other than the Filipino Tagalog language.

Acting was generally uneven. There were supporting cast members who were good but there were those who were horrendous. While there were scenes wherein Aki and Miko were ok, there were also scenes wherein they made unnatural vocal, physical, and emotional acting choices. They need to work on their vocal intonations and facial expressions. There were too much shouting and ugly crying. They were often betrayed by the lack of authentic emotions from their eyes. But since they’re still newbies in acting, these shortcomings were understandable. And besides, their exciting chemistry compensated for these weaknesses. They didn’t have good dramatic scenes together but they did have great romantic, sexy, and steamy scenes together. The kissing and making love scenes of these handsome lead actors were hot and sexy. I liked that they’re normalizing guys kissing and making love intensely and passionately in Pinoy BL series.

Budget-wise, “My Day” was almost akin to Filipino drama series (teleserye) and Thai BL series. A lot of expensive-looking set designs, numerous product placements, and the long list of people in the post-credits illustrated just how well-funded this series was. Production design was largely ok. Set designs during the premiere and Ace’s birthday were quite good. But there were also some missteps. The set designs for the supposedly prestigious international cake competition looked cheap. And production design during the finale was just average. Although simple techniques were used, cinematography was mostly decent. Editing was uneven. The soundtracks especially “Hindi Ako Bibitaw” (I Will Not Let Go) by Paul Ramirez were ok.

All in all, I would only recommend “My Day” to those who love exciting chemistry between the lead actors as well as exquisite kissing and making love scenes, who don’t mind if overall, the series is a (hot and sexy) mess.

Another good BL

Story - the story is a typical one, Main lead dates a girl and then eventually realizes that he is attracted/loves a man. (sorry if the way that was put seems insensitive). I appreciate the writer for the way the portrayed this film and I thoroughly enjoyed waiting each week to see what was going to happen next.

Acting - 1000000/10 the cast really did a wonderful job. The chemistry between the two main leads is unmatched. I also loved how supportive the family dynamic was and how much development and growth both families had throughout the film - we stan liberal & supportive parents. Even down to the "villain" OMG i really hated her kudos to her and her phenomenal portrayal of a villain.

OST - i loved the song in this show. They will be added to my everyday playlist. Reading the lyrics I could see why they were chosen.

If you are looking for a film with great acting & chemistry - then this is it.
All and all i recommend this film.

A DISNEY FAIRYTALE TURNS A BL DRAMA

This is just like a Disney fairytale turns into a BL drama. That's a pretty good drama you can watch binge-watch if you want to BL drama you can binge-watch this because it like a Disney fairytale a turns into bl drama and it also has some flaws like poor acting I admit this is their debut probably and like a Disney fairytale a rich prince meets an average man (bl plot) and they hate each other at the beginning and then the average poor boy simplicity make the rich prince falls in love with him and when their love story was blooming so a Disney fairytale needs some villains so we got villains like the rich man father and average man ex-girlfriend who is probably a side villain but she is mentally ill so let us wait for how ends it's like a Disney a fairytale so definitely binge-worthy and a few cringe jokes in Disney movies but its a pretty good show.

Loved It LOL

Okay. I agree with some parts of the reviews posted. This is a super cheesy show with flaws. Full of tacky one liners, classic story pit falls (ie. ex-girlfriend revenge for "stealing" boyfriend) and just general far fetched events. BUT don't take this show too seriously and you will love it. I think for a funny romcom the acting was pretty good. There was a lot of eye candy which was nice. The sexy scenes were HOT and the actors seemed pretty comfortable. I haven't seen too many of these BL's with this much kissing and not Korean style either. So if you don't take this series too seriously, want a happy ending, and to giggle a bit then I suggest this title. This is not stylistic, accurate, and super good quality series but a funny put a smile on your face one.

This was a crazy ride full of messy characters, ridiculous plotlines and scenes, but somehow I loved it. I also lost too many brain cells watching (not good, since I didn't have that much left to begin with) . I don't even know what my opinion is about the show. I loved and hated it at the same time. I was obsessed but also questioned my choices for watching.

Is this a good show? No. Quite honestly and objectively speaking. Characters at times make no sense, they randomly turn "gaynes and romance" from 1 to 10 between episodes, actions of most characters have no true consequences, and some ladies are just crazy. BUT it's entertaining and I enjoyed every second of it.

I planned to watch one episode, to just see why so many people are so obsessed, and ended up watching 11 episodes in one sitting. Once you start, you won't even know when you'll be on the last episode.

One of the things that for sure got people hooked was the chemistry between the main characters. The things they did... Hide the kids. Fire on screen. Overall the characters were fun to watch. Kim is my girl and the best female character I have seen in BL so far.

I don't have much to say about the plot, since it was never important in the drama itself. It's definitely driven by the relationships and interactions between the characters. The writers could completely change the setting of the show, and not many changes would have to be made.

But then there is Moira, who is basically a female version of Lhong. Throw her into the trash please.

I found the last episode a bit too over the top, even for such an over the top show. But it made me laugh and had some heartwarming moments, so I shouldn't really complain right?

Overall, as many before me said, it's a perfect guilty pleasure. Give it a shot and dive into the craze.

This can only be described as great

I love this show a lot, like so so much. While the story is not completely original(rich boy with parental issues and middle class boy who is happy the way he is) the way the plot is laid out is very unique.

Story:
As i said, not completely original but very unique plot wise. As in the classic trope is still there but it is very hard to tell unless you have experience because it is very well written and not as cliché as other things with that same rich boy poor boy trope. It's entertaining and funny while still being interesting and captivating. There are some 18+ scenes but they aren't graphic . If you can't handle it then you can skip it. They warn you by putting an R rating on the episode.

Acting:
I'm going to say it straight, I don't think Aki is meant to be an actor. He's TOO dramatic and instead of tough and cold, Ace comes off as over dramatic and silly. He's not very good at emotional scenes but i do admit that he is good with fluff moments. When the couple is just being a couple, he acted realistic but the other times,he was too much. Moira was annoying as well but I think that's more of the character than the actor. All the other actors are great but in my opinion miko(sky) was the best. He was great in every scene beginning to end and his portrayal of emotion was great. He is one of the best fake criers in a bl i have scene. I was very surprised to hear that he wasn't actually an actor before he was cast(at least it didn't seem like it)because he was very good. Have I said how good I think he is?;)I am hoping to see him in more things soon because i really do want him to succeed. Everyone else too but miko especially.

Soundtrack:
It was nothing memorable but it wasn't bad. It's not on that much anyway.

Rewatchabality(if i spelled that wrong,I'm sorry):
I, personally, don't rewatch shows or movies very often because I already know how it ends but for the people who don't mind that, I think this show is easily rewatchable.

Overall I recommend this show highly and I am so happy that it's getting the hype it deserves. If you haven't seen it, watch it. It can be a little cringe and aki certainly needs to go to a few workshops but over all it is really fun to watch and the couple is cute.Trust me, i doubt you'll regret it.

guilty pleasure at its finest

hear me out.
how am i supposed to resist flammable chemistry between the main leads? what do i do? say no?

this started out as a mess and continued to be a mess but it has a very attractive force that you can't help but be pulled in. yes, the main leads pulled me in. however, that's not all.
there were many flaws, ridiculous scenes, and inconsistencies in terms of acting and storywise. i did scratch my head and side-eye the annoying ass product placements (whitening ads begone thot) that didn't deserve to be longer than a minute. but somehow, all of these still failed to faze me to drop the drama. i found miss becky, ace's dramatic falling, the luxurious life of ace's dogs and the raining scene hilarious.... what does this say about my humor? :(

i think one of the factors that made me stay is how the relationships of sky's family, ace's family, kimace and ofc skyace were presented.

sky's family:
it's like a warm hug watching this family interact and deal with their problems. the way there was such a big support system within this family with little to no judgment present makes me envious. both parents are absolute sweethearts to their children that i wouldn't be surprised if they had halos on top of their heads because jesus, they love their children a lot. it didn't matter to them what their children wanted to be or who they are. what matters to them is that their children know that they two pairs of arms to come to when they need it and they truLY want them to know that they're ready to support them no matter what type of hell breaks loose.
sky's brother, ken... oh damn... did i cry when he told sky how much he loves him? i'M FINE NOT FINE that was too much for me.

ace's family:
"what's wrong with being gay?.... you care so much about your reputation, what about me? have you ever thought about how i feel? do you think i'm happy?"
fuck that trashcan. if you care so much more about your reputation than your own son, can you still have the audacity to call yourself a father? ace in episode 11 bursting all his emotions at both his parents who weren't there for him almost his whole life was so impactful. my favorite scene, that's for sure. aki torres did an amazing job delivering the frustrations and bottled up emotions of ace's character that was alienated of his parent's presence and affection.
are we not going to talk about ace's mom barging in ace's house with her girlfriend? idk about y'all but that was iconic to me. it screamed freedom from an abusive trashcan. she's happier with her lover, amanda and she has the chance to reconcile with her son. it's what she deserves.

kim & ace:
these two are so precious. they showed the most beautiful and selfless friendship.
kim's character isn't another evil-plotting ex girlfriend. she is a strong, independent, stunning, and humble woman that understands what is and what isn't right for her. the scene of her confessing to ace about how she truly feels but is understanding that it's unrequited is so admirable. she knows ace has someone else so she doesn't pursue him.... yes queen we bow down to you.
ace giving kim a forehead kiss tears me uP. i just love them so much. i'm a shooter for kimace.

sky & ace:
this started with ace being a dick with a temper that's worse than the sound of a screeching chalk on a blackboard. i have to admit that their relationship started with no signal of how it happened but i love it? through sky and his family, ace found himself a family and a shoulder to lean on and they were each other's support system.
the chemistry between these two are super off the charts, truly groundbreaking. their kissing and devil's tango scenes make you feel like you're watching something you shouldn't be watching because of how real it seemed... truly on fire
some scenes didn't feel scripted at all and it just sets a natural tone, making you feel warm all over ooF y'all can't tell me the durian scene where they were just having the most chill and cute ass convo was scripted....

what frustrated me the most?
-moira.... there was no consequence to anything she did... this person straight up filmed skyace without consent and also messed with sky's food causing an allergy attack.... and shE hAS THE NERVE!!! the nervE to barge in sky's house, be rude af to sky's family and still says with her whole ass lungs "s-sky i love you" biTCH THE DOOR IS TO YOUR RIGHT
-sky and ace forgiving moira that quick and not sending her to jail tf broooo sky almost died and she literally spread illegally filmed vids of y'all... don't hug her... drag her to prison aw c'mon :(
-i know ace and his dad made up in the finale but i'm still bitter haha that dude was an asshole to his mom so uhhh there's still more to fix it'd be interesting to know what happens to them next season
-the kidnapping of chukchuk was so ridiculous i can'T you're telling me ace's rich ass hired the worst security guard and also it's that easy to get in ???? was the door even locked? i stg

overall, i found this enjoyable despite the unnecessary and nonsensical scenes. i'm absolutely whipped for skyace and will definitely watch season 2. i'm probably going to need a couple of tanks filled with holy water by then. jesus is far from reach in this drama lol.

p.s. i'm obsessed with the ost
hindi ako bibitaw by paul ramirez lives in my head rent free

Worst BL series

This series is a total mess, banking only on its actors’ handsome face. It is poorly written with cringy lines and acting. Some scenes are just randomly created without connection to the series. No character development. The kissing and bed scene is poorly executed, its like I’m watching a soft p0rn. Its so unnatural.

How come a person who just attempted a murder and uploaded a sex video of someone just get a free pass in the end without jail time and was able to graduate.

The music are good tho. It is magical and catchy

Messy but fun

It's messy, it's slightly problematic at times, but it can also be very, very fun. It's a guilty pleasure for me; the show is so campy that I don't know if I should laugh or take the show seriously. Kidnapped dogs? A over-the-top millionaire father? A Kris Aquino impersonator? A cake baking competition where the intern represents a supposedly multimillion company? NOTHING MAKES SENSE! But also, it does--it's just campy fun. The chemistry of leads also takes this show to a higher level; I hope they get a better BL show soon.

Not good, but had its moments

This series was a mess - but there was a passion behind it that sort of (but not quite) saved it. I'll start with negatives:

There are some offensive things in here - Jelai is that disturbing stereotype, a very effeminate person who is made ridiculous and played for laughs. He's predatory and his treatment of Jam is fairly serious sexual harassment. He also tells off a female employee for her skirt being to high, which is misogyny. The actor playing Jelai (Gio Emprese) is constantly misused in roles like this when he's actually a powerful dramatic actor as you can see in Meet My Angel).

There are people that do horrible things, but suffer no consequences - that is a terrible message to send. The main villain of the story doesn't even apologize, but is forgiven. The story is all over the place, and there's no real plot - it's just a bunch of things that happen. Even the obligatory breakup made no sense - it was just a dramatic device with no motivation or logic. A lot of the dialog and "humor" will make you cringe, so be prepared.

The sound is poor, the cinematography is competent but uninspired, and the acting is uneven, generally not good.

On the plus side, the two leads seriously committed - they are one of the most believable couples I've ever seen in a BL, and their love scenes were smoking hot - even straying more than a bit into BDSM. (however, the big love scene was very poorly set up and lacked the emotional impact it should have had - I'm all for sex, but it still needs to work and not feel gratuitous) I'm used to being given nothing more than a chaste kiss - that does not happen here. Sky's family is wonderful, except his brother Ken, who is another offensive predatory effeminate stereotype, which was a waste of an obviously talented actor. The love and validation are the right message and series ended on a positive an affirming note.

I think the problem with this series is that it needed to cut loose and just be campy as f#$%. It wanted to, but always held back, and as a result, the outrageous elements fell flat. For example, Ace's clothing is almost ridiculous, but not quite, and because Aki Torres is so gorgeous he can get away with a lot. I'm not sure what the point of Miss Becky was - if you're going to have a female role played by a man, make it a proper drag queen! There were times where she flirted with being a Disney character - fine, but commit! A middle-aged woman could have filled the role just as well. Moira was cartoonishly evil, but her schemes needed to be more over-the-top (and less time-chewing). She could have been given a hilarious death or comeuppance, which would have been entertaining and satisfying.

Anyway, for all its faults, I watched it and was entertained - and didn't fast forward through too much, so there's that. But it's not the type of show that will have you counting the minutes for. It probably doesn't deserve 5 stars, but there's a lot of effort put into this and the leads did not hold back at all - which I hope all other BLs take notice of.

A Decent Series

Like I previously stated, after watching Gaya Sa Pelikula and Gameboys, my expectations for Philipino BLs are high and even higher for BLs in general. So with My Day, I wasn't disappointed, but it didn't have the same touch that the others did.

Let's Dive In.

The first few episodes of this series were the best. The concept was new, which I can always appreciate, and from the beginning, I really enjoyed the two main leads. I think my favorite part was them going on their little trip with their coworkers and the cliche drowning scene (what can I say? I'm a sucker for cliches). For the most part, I didn't have a problem with this plot, until we got the the later half of the show. Everything felt like a filler moment, and nothing was quite understandable from the getgo. The acting is also not that great, especially when it come to crying scenes. By the end, I was kind of over this show and just ready to move on. I was also over it cause they had the mean ex-girlfriend go and try to sabatoage their relationship.

Overall, not a bad watch, this show is kind of forgettable, and a bit cliche, but it wasn't bad. It also didn't hurt that the actors did have good chemistry and their intimate scenes were done very nicely. Wouldn't neccassily recommend it, but I wouldn't knock it off either.
