The story was just like an episode from the anime, but the acting (especially by the American girl) was not good. Also, most of the talking was worded way too dramatically for my taste. I thought I would love it because I like a lot of things like it, but it was just not right. I could watch the whole thing just fine because the action in the couple of fight scenes was good enough, but I wouldn't want to watch it a second time.

Disaster of a movie

It's like a shittier version of Underworld: Evolution, and Underworld: Evolution is already incredibly shitty so I'm not sure what that makes this.

How anyone can manage to make even Jun Ji-hyun bland is beyond me, like at this point it takes special skills to achieve this as I thought it to be impossible.

And then you somehow notice that this is a Hong Kong American French Chinese Japanese co-production starring a Korean actress playing a Japanese girl speaking English directed by a French guy and jesus what even happened to this movie

Stunts - 57/100 | The CGI blood is bordering on parody quality here and frankly they should have embraced it. Go full Sin City on that movie!

Narrative - 34/100 | That Alice actress must have lost a bet or something. The bet: say the most outrageous things possible with a serious face. No one could have acted this role and made it work. No one. Congrats Chris Chow, your writing talents (or more accurately: lack thereof) shall not go unnoticed. Genius-ly bad script.

Fight Choreography - 46/100 | I like the exaggerated style they were going for with the action and understand what they were trying to achieve, but it's an utter failure of execution regardless with the nauseating editing and crappy shot continuity.

Enjoyment - 40/100 | Look, it's got Jun Ji-hyun in a lead role playing a 400 (500?) years old vampire dressed like a schoolgirl slicing monsters left and right with a katana, with horrendous CGI blood splattering everywhere. Just for that alone 4/10 is the floor here.

Could have been worse

Lotta flaws in this production but some good parts too.
The script sounds like a draft that needs a lot of work. In the right hands the anime might have been a new franchise series, but (I didn't read the anime) I suspect a lot of background material was left out. Some expansion on the why of the characters' motivations and background details would have helped. Given the wide variety of creative inputs it's surprising it worked as well as it did (not very well at all). The Korean and American actresses went on to active careers so they did what they could with the material. The movie was too short (1.5 hours) and even that was padded with excessive chopping and slashing scenes as if someone thought that would distract from the wooden acting and dialogue.
Once the big reveal happens I was curious to see more of the Saya character and what she would to do going forward. This movie should have been the set - up for a great series revolving around Saya.

Could have been be great

Concept is good until story got twisted starting at 9:30 teenager Alice story got introduced.
FL Saya is an interesting character but ruined by poor dubbing. I think the artist they chose for the role did the character well. The rest mostly exaggerated their acting that can be irritating sometimes
Love the inclusion of WAR music and other 70's sounds.
It started gory and has some gory scenes. Overall, it can be good enough to watch when needing something to kill time. ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♥︎♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♥︎♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

there is a lot of action. But there is no backbone to the story. There is no comedy. But, if you love blood, guts, swords, and fighting . Then this is a good movie to watch. Just watch out cuz since it was made in2009 the screen quality Is a little off but it is pretty good. i mean i watched it on 2017 and the screen quality was pretty decent. when i say there is no backbone to the story i mean there is none. we don't understand why she moves to a new city, why she wants to be an outcast, and then in the end why she goes searching for somebody. it doesn't add all up. first she is moving, then she is protecting her friend, then she runs away, then another fighting scene, then her journey and finally she meets the person she needed to. if she needed to find a person why include all the other parts of her moving an going to school.
