The story is set in 1991, during the technology boom, and follows a group of IT students at the University of Yenching. Xiao Chuang and a few of his friends are caught selling illegal Chinese language boards. Xiao Chuang sacrifices himself so his friends can escape but the board is recognized by their supervisor who names Pei Qing Hua as the creator. Despite Xiao Chuang's attempts to take all the blame, Pei Qing Hua, the number one student of the IT program, is also implicated and they are both fired.
