This was different for me because I love the main actress, Jackie Li, who played the role of Liu Jin Feng. I congratulate her for snatching this role. For her to play alongside Li Hong Yi, wow, amazing. Her personality came out in her character. I love her! She is really good! Li Hong Yi just recently became one of my favorite actors, so I know he did very well, playing opposite of Jackie Li. I laughed so much and cried a little, but happy every worked out in the end. The storyline I was able to tolerate because of the two main leads. Yes, there was an ending, but I will not talk about it. Thanking all the supportive actors and actresses in this drama. Thank you to the production crew, the staff, etc. The costumes were lovely. Le Hong Yi is so dang good and awesome, sorry I had to say that again.

Entertaining!!

This drama was hilarious and entertaining all the way.No serious or heart racing issues or problems in the drama.A cool and feel good drama in all aspects.
The female lead, Jackie Li outshines in her performance. She acted with ease in the role of Liu Jinfeng .Her dancing skilled were also equally good.
Li Hongyi is always good in his acting.
All the other cast did their very best
I particularly liked the dance sequences in this drama.
Overall a very light hearted drama which has definitely been added to my rewatch list.
I already watched 3 times.

I tried. I tried so hard.

Like others, I wanted to like this so much. I did. But I couldn’t. It was cute in bits and pieces but Jackie Li legitimately carried this show on her back, with an assist from the gentleman who played her parents. They were the only ones aware this was a comedy.

The story was okay, but I kept thinking I’d missed something and rewinding to find out no, I hadn’t, just some major plot point had not appeared in the show. Like suddenly the emperor is near dead but who knows how? Somehow she’s his ride or die but I missed why? Whatever.

There were some major unresolved plot points by the end. By that point I was glad it was over, though.

One other thing - the emperor - the entire time no one could do his hair? The emperor looks like a ninth grader? No.

not usual FL or Queen

I think this is first time ever I've watch c-drama where the FL is not a pretty slim woman. As expected this drama bring us along with new perspective of FL, many new joy to the ride.

What's new:
+ FL is not a pretty slim woman. Hell yeah finally we can see FL not as a pretty slim woman & she feel very proud of herself & no shame have big body.
+ Queen not groom to be queen. Liu Jin Feng (JF) never been raised to be queen, so she never learn the etiquet to be one. As a result we see not very polite, not very elegant woman as our FL and queen.
+ JF bring the upbring as usual woman & treat the king, Duan Yun Zhang (YZ), as her husband not the king. As the result we can see how she teach him how to apologize when you wrong no matter who you are or to watch his mouth, because as she said his word is a degree so he can just said it as he please, must be the right order that bring goodness to everyone else.

What I like:
+ the attraction between JF & YZ. Chemistry not over the top, of course this still a comedy drama not romance, and the behavior between Jackie Li & Li Hong Yi we can see very friendly & they're very enjoy the moment they're in the scene together.
+ The nature of Liu Xie (LX) characteristic. From the very first we can see this is a very interesting man, but what is his intention....? Is he really bad or he just have very sly personality that like to play with the mind of YZ. Even YZ himself torn between is LX actually a good man or bad one, that's why we can see until the very end YZ actually quite reluctant to kill LX.
+ How the relationship between JF & YZ form until the end. How they build the trust, friendship & love in the end.
+ The relationship between Liu Bai Yu (BY) & Duan Yun Chong. It's quite funny to see how their relationship transform...
+ The character of Yong Fu. We always say good mother shape a good daughter. Well this happen in the case of this drama. We often can hear the word, my mom said....

What lack:
- I have to admit although I quite happy we can see not a norm queen, but to see a complete out of norm Queen like JF is also quite questionable. And the moment they also put BY as one moment that more fit as Queen then JF is also quite raising our eyebrow... But everything good & have their purpose at the end....
- Half baked love rival between By & JF or YZ & Yu Chang Ya. Yeah sometimes quite happy to see we don't have very cunning love rival that want make us pull their hair. But half baked like this also leave some holes....
- The kingdom enemy, like Xi Yue kingdom that already prepare battle but in the end become nothing except jokes. For me they better not prepare foreign kingdom as an enemy than like this. Like why kingdom must have enemy in the border, why not just create the story without it & just focus with the Palace or it's own kingdom.

Overall this one very unique drama that show up in drama world. I really hope we can see this kind of drama again & finger cross we can see Jackie Li as another FL not only support role.

A naive word where the ML should be the Grand Chancellor

This series shouldn’t even be called a TV drama because this is a naive person’s utopia with no mega villain, and the villain should actually be the ML because he’s much more interesting than the ML.

|A plot without a true villain and where the “villain” overshadows the ML|
As much as I love Li Hongyi, I feel bad for him because he was relegated to the role of a spoiled prince that’s still finding his footing/power after growing under the tutelage of possibly one of the BEST ANTI-HERO/VILLAIN in the whole Cdrama verse. The problem with having the best anti-hero is that almost half of the characters know that he’s not a true villain and you get frustrated because only the ML and FL are the only ones creating an imagined villain or problem for themselves.
Since the show didn’t have a truly villainous person in it, you’d expect the internal conflict between the ML and FL to be more dramatic because the FL is not really your typical Cdrama heroine. But the sad part is they put too much emphasis on the FL being too funny and failed to give more light on her inner qualities that the ML got to see. I’d say the FL had more valuable interactions with the side characters than the ML which is such a waste.
Lastly the main conflict of the story about how the FL and ML became the “emperor and empress”, falls flat because the problem they solved were not as epic and life changing as you’d expect and the “anti-hero” was always giving them clues or helping them secretly so any breakthrough the FL and ML had wasn’t as satisfying.
In the end, the conflict was not enough to call for 36 episodes. I think if they made it 16 episodes the might have made the story more cohesive, titillating, and have a sense of urgency that we need.

|Meh Chemistry but good rapport between the cast|
I think the cast had fun with the show seeing the easy and good rapport between them. Jackie Li and Li Hongyi looked like they could be friends but I never felt the “heart wrenching love” that most Cdramas aimed to portray. If you compare Li Hongyi’s Xuan to his Qia Yue, Xuan doesn’t even come close to Qia Yue’s feet in terms of his great love, conviction, and strength of character. Jackie Li may be the perfect actress for her character but the show failed to show her inner qualities more dramatically to make us believe that Xuan had no chance of resisting loving her. I’m not sure if the actors were uncomfortable with it, or maybe the director or screenwriter couldn’t feel it, but choosing to have Xuan kiss Jinfeng mostly on the forehead sure cooled any ember we had for the ML and FL. Cute & chubby women also deserve passionate kisses! But the problem with the story is that they didn’t create scenes that called for one so everything just felt Meh. I hope the screenwriters watch Bridgerton with Penelope’s story so they can get an idea on how to properly give chubby girls the passionate love affairs they deserve.

Hilarious fun for a friday fun

If you are looking for historical accuracy or deeper meaning or angsty romance or soulful kissing you'll be disappointed. It look me a while to get into the story - around 10 episodes. It seemed like was turning out into the typical Cdrama of rich cold guy x warm poor girl type. But around the episode 11 mark the series takes off and is hilarious. It does get a bit draggy but its for the STORY!

If you are looking for gorgeous leads and drop dead chemistry forget it. This feels like many IRL couples where you wonder what they saw in each other but they're together for the longest time.

Watch it for Jackie Li and the villain Dad who is quite real. Most IRL villains don't actually give out evil laughs or behave villainy. And this show gives the villain a typical middle-class Dad vibe, albeit scheming villain.

Watch this for relaxation and I guess the show is funnier if you understand Mandarin

Don't let the score fool you. This is a very watchable drama. It's consistently funny the entire run, something a lot of dramas can't pull off, and the female lead is soooooooooo feisty and go-getter. Those two things right there make this more than worth watching.

Not a lot really happens with all of the court politics and machinations for much of the drama, and I wouldn't put too much investment into that part of the story. It's mostly Yun Zhang suspecting Liu Xie of evil intent, and Liu Xie being shady but also making the audience question whether he's truly a villain or not. There's definitely plenty of fun moments and Liu Xie is infinitely intriguing, but it is a bit slow going at times. After about ep 29 (yes, pretty late in the story) is when things really start moving, and there's a lot of really interesting stuff that happens. I was honestly pleasantly surprised at how well they tied everything together. I would say this part of the drama has a very satisfying conclusion.

Probably the one thing you're going to hear the most complaints about is the lack of kisses in the romance. I don't know why the production team decided to go the route they did, why there weren't more kisses, why there were so many almost kisses, why the first kiss is her kissing the spot between his lips and his chin, but this is what they decided to go with. Am I happy about it? No. Does it ruin the drama? Also no. But it certainly doesn't benefit the drama. We at least needed a kiss fading to black on their second wedding night. (I mean, come on!) They do hug and link arms and hold hands quite frequently once they get together, and there's plenty of non-skinship related romance to be had between them as well, but I do still wish we had gotten one more true kiss. (I mean, come oooooooonnnn. Not even on the second wedding night???) Barring the lack of kisses, they are a fun couple to watch go from bickering to mild respect to open with their feelings for each other.

What really makes this drama work is the comedy and the female lead. First, it's incredibly funny. From the characters to the plot to the intentional irreverence, even the way they play with Chinese history. (This is not a historically accurate drama, lol.) I was constantly laughing at the hijinks everyone gets up to. Then there's Jinfeng. Love her. Love her, love her, love her. She shows up at the palace and makes the place her own, and it's very satisfying to watch. Without these two things, this drama probably would have suffered.

One Word Of Warning!!!!
This drama suffers from some bizarre, jarring cuts from ep. 20 to around ep. 26 that harm the overall flow of the story. Internet drama sleuths determined that the major cuts were to do with a subplot that didn't end up going anywhere, so the production team most likely decided to remove it. The problem is the episodes had already been uploaded to the internet when they made this decision, and making those cuts created confusion for other parts of the drama. They should have just left them in, and everyone could have side-eyed the dropped plot point and moved on. It might be worth rewatching some of those eps to help with clarity on the plot. The cuts took me out of the story enough, that I decided to rewatch about 5 or 6 episodes just to help me understand what was going on and give me time to get reinvested.

Overall though, I think this was a super fun drama, my third Chinese drama to ever finish. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for really good comedy that is consistent throughout the story, and a feisty, spunky female lead who makes everyone love her.

WATCH THIS OR YOU’LL REGRET IT !! fun to watch, enjoyable, & precious.

I watched this after watching Love Like Galaxy and Love Between Fairy and Devil.
I tell you both top famous drama with famous actor and actress. And consider most waited drama.
Somehow i came across this drama, and saw HongYi. Since i always love him, i decide to watch this drama without actually being too keen on the actress.

Well without I realized, I’m falling in love deeper and deeper with FL like how Hong Yi did fall in the drama. Yes she is not beautiful like Esther Yu or Zhao LuSi.
Butttttttt she is super cute and her laugh and smile is contagious. It will make you smile.

This drama is not like other romantic drama with full or hugging or kissing scene. Even the bed scene is funny and comical. But it is enough to make you feel the romance. Everyone is just fun to watch, every scene is enjoyable, every moment is precious.

STORY:
it is a very relax drama and super funny that will make you laugh every single episode. It will be hard to determine the bad guy cause all characters are just comical in their own way. The characters also have huge developments in very good pace. Like how the female lead was obsess with the king but later she found her own principles and stand own her ground, while helping with king’s growth to be a great ruler. And the male lead is childish at first but became the great ruler at the end and great human as well with the help of people around him especially the Queen.

REWATCHING:
this drama is definitely 100% worth to rewatch. It makes me shout cause it’s cute every 2 episodes. Makes me laugh hysterically every episodes. And i rewatched it for a few times already.

SOUNDTRACK:
are quite catchy. I even include one song in my playlist already. But got this one song that is overuse in the drama that makes me annoyed.

CAST:
at first i thought Hong Yi does not portrayed good acting here. But towards the ends I’m wrong. He does did great with his acting as childish 20 years old king. And i realised that somehow the Hong Yi in real live show is very similar to the character in the drama. so yeah, he is the best choice as the cast.

As the female lead, it was my first time watch her act. Never saw her in any other drama. But at first i was annoyed with her voice and acting like country bum. But then nope I’m in love with her ady. She got her charm in weird way. ahahah i don't really know how to say it.

overall I think all cast suits their characters perfectly.

Under rated

This is the first movie that is costume period that teaches much about what being an emperor has to think about how governance of the old times are and how the life of the people is affected by every decision a single person makes. This maybe a comedy series yet it gave a lot of knowledge ignored during this modern times. It may not be a film that you will like rewatching yet worth the time watching. This should have been given a score according to the film value but not the love content or the portrayal used. Its fun but informational, like learning while playing. Stories like this and film should be given more of support. We cant live by just watching dramas with love and hate because we have that in real life everyday. We need films to make us laugh and be enlighten. My salute to the Director, writer and the people around the film who saw the value of making this as part of entertainment history.
Well on th other hand it will make you shiver with its cheesy yet conservative romance. The cast will give you like live like experience with their portrayal. Not an expert on this field but brave enough to tell the world my opinion.

Expect Chemistry & Lots of Ruckus and Laughter

A light and fluffy drama that'll surely give viewers the feels.

Definitely enjoyed the banter, the hate - love relationship between the CP and the ML with his advisor, the chemistry between the main leads, Yu Chang Ya's chemistry with the FL, and the interactions of the whole palace gang. I also appreciate how until the end the advisor chose the best interest of the country and the emperor even though most thought he was the villain, and how the story tied up everything in the end.

I also got really attached to the story of the advisor and FLs Mom. I wish we saw them get married in the end. But overall, this was such a feel good drama to watch, there was absolutely little to no stress, and just pure enjoyment.

Light-hearted fun and a breezy romance

Let me lead with the cons.

The drama theme is keeping the story and the characters light. So the characters' general actions and reactions tend to be on the easy-going way of things. But this meets some trouble. Because there is a plot, the story and character do encounter some serious events, for which the way the event gets wrapped up too casually. Some of the hurt that might have been endured seem to be brushed off by a carefree explanation. So now, the light drama, starts to get dry in the middle. Because of some uninteresting serious events that you know won't matter in any plot-altering way. So ya, the episodes do get dry in the middle.

That said, the majority of the drama is such a fun watch. We're on to the pros. Most of the episodes have so much comedy, a natural growing romance. The laid back side of the plot that backs up the comedy is not actually a joke and with light good messages tucked in here and there, overall it definitely has its charm. The FL could not have done a better job, she is just so very likeable as a character and so adorable with her acting and such a riot with her performance that she immediately captures attention. She has good chemistry with the ML. They are a bickering yet healthy couple. All the characters including the leads are just cute and funny and you simply cannot hate even one single person. Even the costumes and cinematography with bright, shiny, yet mostly, light colours give a sunny feeling throughout. All around I just laughed and smiled a lot while watching this. Even the soundtrack in the background seemed so peppy. And there's a song with a mini dance sequence, it's very upbeat and you should definitely not miss out on that at least.
