Ridiculous storyline and unappealing characters.

This drama quickly turned ridiculous and boring. I stopped watching it in the middle of the 3rd episode. The first 2 episodes were already a sign of how poor this drama seemed but the 3 episode confirmed it. Don’t waste your time on this one. if you’re truly curious then just watch the 1st episode then you’ll know… It goes downhill from there trust me.
I cannot understand how anyone can give this drama anything above a 4.
The “Dr.” is portrayed as an incompetent space tourist with a secret “mission”. Although he has been training with the Team of astronauts for a year before their takeoff he falls apart during and after takeoff. The Commander pulls a gun on the Dr. because she suspects he’s up to something suspicious but then she hugs him after he saves a lab rat during an open heart surgery in space. If this doesn’t sound ridiculous yet, there’s more! They delayed connecting to the space station for 20 minutes because of 2 fruit flies mating in space to the Commander’s fascination and obsession. I just can’t! 🤦🏻‍♀️

When the Stars Fall: A Promise of Innovation Without Spark

"When the Stars Gossip" aimed to innovate by blending romance and science fiction, but its execution disappoints. The script lacks focus, with repetitive dialogue, predictable twists, and irrelevant conflicts. The pacing is inconsistent, alternating between dull moments and poorly developed characters, making emotional connection difficult. Although the cast is talented, the characters are poorly written, and the leads lack chemistry. While it might appeal to a less demanding audience, it’s hard to recommend due to its lack of impact and depth.

Flies, feelings and Zero gravity

This show is an ambitious blend of science fiction, drama, and absurdity—sometimes brilliant, other times baffling. The premise has potential: a space mission tackling groundbreaking experiments like flies mating in zero gravity, mouse surgeries, and human embryos developing to the morula stage. How they managed all this in five days is anyone’s guess—it took humanity decades to achieve a fraction of this! The $500 billion lottery win and sperm-egg fusion without microscope are the cherries on this over-the-top cake. All in a 5-day tourism package..
Moving on , For science enthusiasts, The concept of flies naturally mating in space for the first time could spark curiosity. But for others, waiting 20 minutes for this to happen might feel like a slog. The exaggerated timeline, while entertaining in its audacity, stretches believability to its breaking point.

The characters are a mixed bag. The FL is a rule-abiding nerd whose rigidity overshadows any warmth she might have brought to the role. The ML, played by Minho, feels miscast—not his fault, but the role doesn’t align with his usual charm. Park Hyung Sik might have been a better fit. The supporting cast brings their own share of chaos: alcoholic aunts, a control-obsessed conglomerate uncle, and a partner embroiled in infidelity. Their tangled personal lives often feel forced, overshadowing the core plot.

That said, the show does attempt to explore interesting themes. It delves into scientific curiosity, ethical dilemmas, and human emotions under extraordinary circumstances. If you can overlook the occasional (okay, frequent) logical leaps, there’s a quirky charm to its audacity.

As a longtime K-drama fan, I couldn’t help but notice the Netflix-isation of this show. The emotional depth and aesthetic simplicity that defined classic K-dramas are missing. Instead, we get forced alcoholism and a bizarrely out-of-place soft porn-esque scene in the first episode, which detracts from the narrative. This shift in tone may appeal to some but alienates traditional fans.

In summary, the show is bold and unique, though uneven in its storytelling. It’s worth a watch if you’re open to a mix of scientific curiosity and wild plot twists, but you’ll need to suspend disbelief and embrace the chaos. For fans of traditional K-dramas, this might not hit the same sweet spot, but it’s an interesting experiment nonetheless.

The hate for this drama is unreasonable

I don't understand why everyone is hating on the drama. It's a fresh concept in a unique setting. The characters all peice together well and their individual plots / back stories make sense. People are hating on it saying the plot is irrational / illogical but its honestly a nice break from most of the cookie cutter dramas we have been getting. People complain that there aren't enough original dramas anymore but scream bloody Mary when they get a unique and original drama.

I also like the romance between the main leads. People are saying that is feels forced and it came out of nowhere but I think it's cute. ML fell in love with her passion for the reproduction in space. Which resonates with his character as he reason to for going to space into space in the first place was to give couples with fertility issues a chance to have kids.

I'm beginning to think that people are only hating on it because they don't understand it. It's a solid 8 out of 10 for me.

Repeat after me: you can't say the drama is good just because the main actor is Lee Min Ho.

Just because your favorite actor is Lee Min Ho, who, spoiler alert, is a bit overrated, you can’t say the drama is good, that the cast is fantastic, or anything like that. You give a bad impression of the drama, which is frankly boring and nonsense.. What story are we watching? Yes, it’s just a drama, but logically, how does an astronaut bring a gun with them?
Also, do you really find it fascinating how someone looks admiringly at two flies mating?
how can a civilian, a space tourist, even think about bringing something undeclared onto a space station, really bro, are you serious?

A MUST WATCH UNIQUE SCI FI ROM COM

I have watched until episode 6. In my personal opinion the script except minor flaws is outstanding and stands out from the rest kdramas who keep repeating the same love cliches… ( I have watched over 100) This is something different. Comedy is combined perfectly with action which is unique for sci-fi genre series !!! The performances of all the cast is excellent !!! In my country 🇬🇷 we only care if someone is good actor/actress, not age or beauty. Because actor comes from the word ACT !!!

What am I watching? Why am I watching? How am I watching?

I don't have the answers to any of these questions lol. What's happening here? I don't believe LMH and GHJ chose this script by themselves.
1. The entire essence of the story (about this IVF, space fertility center etc..) feels BS even if you turn off our brain.
2. Somehow there is no chemistry at all between any of the characters, the ML, FL, SFL, SML. You don't sense a genuine affection/love/even hatred for that matter between any of them.
3. The ML trying to fall for the FL feels sooooo forced. I mean common......you met this person (FL) just a while ago and are already falling for her without any reason (literally there were no such intimate scenes for it to happen this soon) lmao.
4. The other operators, that one and only English speaking guy and the side characters in the space craft, this rich senseless FIL, the lady who gave her eggs omgggg.. none of these make any sense!

The story just don't add up with the image it created, the actors casted, the budget involved and finally the looong wait for it to be released. Sorry but this is just an unfortunate disaster. Will I continue watching this? No idea..

What happened!?!

Before watching, this drama had so much potential with an all-star cast! I was so excited to watch this show. Unfortunately, with each episode, the show went progressively downhill. The script writing makes even the best actors suffer. More money should have been put into casting a seasoned actor as Santi since it is a main role. So much money was spent on special effects, but it was a waste given the below average storyline. And the idea of using pipettes to do microinjections is ridiculous. There is a reason companies spend thousands of dollars on precision equipment. Anyway, I hope the ending isn't too disappointing. I won't hold my breath.

Interesting premise that is ruined by the execution

While the premise sounds interesting, and the show kept me entertained at first, the overall execution is lackluster and disappointing, which is why I finally decided to DNF this 15 minutes into episode 5. The “conflict” between the male lead and Eve went on and on, but it’s the phone call between the twins that kind of killed it for me. I don’t even know what their thing with the lottery ticket is, but they are both so annoying: space twin is oddly whiny and shrill/childish, and planet twin is oddly dominant and both of them maximized the annoying effect they have on me.

Episode 4 was already quite weird to be honest. Why would the space tourist, untrained and unprofessional as he is, be Eve’s savior… out of all possible people that could have helped her? Makes no sense. Everyone, be it in space or on planet Earth, wasted precious minutes “monitoring” and asking the same, tired questions instead of stepping in and getting their commander back inside… like,… I don’t know?

The whole … reproductive propaganda is also done distastefully. Korea has low birthrates at the moment, and this show is not really promoting having babies in a good way: the female characters concerned with the space reproduction don’t even have a say about the doctor (Kang Su or the male lead) treating their eggs and they generally have no bodily autonomy as of right now. So far, in 4 episodes, the CEO has just decided everything or fired everyone in the women’s stead, which is so icky. (Also, him blaming the male lead for Go Eun’s baby loss made no sense, her pregnancy was literally not viable and life threatening??)

Anyway, there is maybe more to say, but the show just didn’t do it for me. Moving on to the next👋🏻👋🏻

BULL’s EYE

Writing this after episode six and the intense meeting of the sperm.

Totally love love loving this drama so based on my very own viewing entertainment, it’s a perfect ten. Rather than the other ongoing drama series that are recycling plot lines (also enjoying), this is refreshing to me. Mind you I was terrible in science and all the experts are probably jumping on concepts in this drama because I don’t know it’s accuracy. BUT, I find it intriguing and interesting. It’s a sci-fi after all but very thought provoking. Can you imagine if this can be done? Oh my gosh, it would be absolutely cool.

Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin are perfect for the roles simply for the very reason everyone thinks they aren’t. Totally different from their other roles, it’s probably the appeal to their taking it. I see nothing less of their acting abilities except to shine even more. It’s great seeing Jin again after missing due to personal growth and to me, she’s still that natural great actress made for camera entertainment. Min Ho after so much growth also is natural and this role is cute for him, Dr OBGYN. Love it! Combining a hint of romance, science intrigues, crew bonding, personal relationships, medical decisions, and more makes this drama. It’s short so i don’t know how it’ll all be wrapped but it’s a great flow and very interesting to me.

Everyone in this work deserves praise. The crew on the ship might have their own agenda (raffle ticket) but I predict where they’re going with it. Minor distraction but the bonding of people working together in a small space is good. The space team at the station have their added intrigue. The rich and their own agenda that of course is unscrupulous as very common trope also adds to the build up. In all, I find this very entertaining made solid after episode six and while it’s sad many are not connecting with it, I for one is loving it so I feel it’s made just for me. (wink, wink). Yep, they hit a bulls eye (to me at least) with this production. Give them a try.

Those of you watching, be careful what expectations you have!

Episode six, already seen, reignites the drama... I cannot ask an unevenly distributed population to change their views on life/death/relationships within families/experiments... I don’t know what they were mainly expecting from a drama set in space—stand-up comedy? Romance? The crash of the NY stock exchange or having coffee at a four-star restaurant? There, people conduct experiments, during the time period proposed as the setting for this sci-fi... I was impressed because in this episode, life steps out of its limited, ephemeral, and sexual space to meet the timeless aspect of existence... Professional rules, material concerns, honesty, love, betrayal, all these are discussed in a whirlpool full of life. I exulted when the protagonist erupted with reproaches toward the heroine—maybe it wasn’t okay, but it was entirely sincere, from his level of understanding of life, and he became a believable character, beyond the unrealistic and stereotypical perfection of protagonists that Lee Min Ho usually portrays. Finally, he breaks free of the mold, and I will search for more of his recent dramas. To the critics, I remind them of the 2017 film Salyut-7, made with cosmonauts based on true events that happened in 1985... that’s how I think things unfold in space—people aren’t just sitting around chatting.
I will add more as episodes are released. I’m sure I would have been happier if there were a maximum of 12 episodes, and I should add that the OST is very, very good!!!
